A: Doubling RAM will probably help... IF your system is memory-constrained. While editing a large photo file, right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager. Click More details at the bottom, and click the Memory heading to sort tasks by decreasing memory usage. Most important, note the percentage memory usage at the top of the column. (This applies to Windows 10, but the process is similar with 7, 8, and 8.1.)

[200-Pin SO-DIMM] I'm not sure how much this helps becasue I bought it along with a new NAS, but I'm guessing it improves performance, and I like the security of ECC. It might be a little more than 3rd party modules, but I like knowing that it will work and is backed up by Synology. Super easy to install. 5

[512 MB] I always upgrade the memory in Synology units to handle the workload. Synology branded memory is usually much higher in price, but I believe it is important to buy it because Synology support probably will look to off-brand memory as a potential problem. 5

[512 MB] I ordered 4x2Gb of this brand-name Patriot DDR2 to replace my older slightly faster (1066-speed) and different brand of DDR2 that eventually developed failures. This memory seems to be very stable and extended the life of my very old custom desktop system. Based upon several recent orders, I've concluded that B&H is the best source for computer components recently. Their product selection and prices are excellent; delivery is amazingly prompt (often 2-3 days from the order acceptance). Of course they are also a great source for photo and video products as well! 5

[DDR2] First of all, I want to mention that I bought this memory from B&H because in my decades of dealing with B&H I have found that they always stand behind the products that they sell. Secondly, I wanted the Patriot memory because it gets good ratings on the internet. The memory arrived in a well-packed box with plenty of padding. I have run the Windows Memory diagnostic twice – once when I first installed the memory, and once after many hours of usage. Both times the memory passed the diagnostic perfectly. The bottom line – I am very pleased with my purchase. 5

[200-Pin SO-DIMM] I ordered this module for a new Synology 923+. Synology recommends using only its own memory modules for the NAS. So, this was the only option. It was easy to install, works as planned, and helps speed up performance of the NAS, but I it is expensive compared to some third party memory modules. I figured it was worth it for peace of mind. 5
