The Hoya 37mm NXT Plus UV Filter for Camerasis a general use, clear filter designed to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. Aside from the reduction of unwanted blue casts, no additional coloration or contrast is created, and adjustments to exposure are not required while using this filter. To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes five layers of anti-reflection coating. These coatings also offer greater protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. An additional hydrophobic coating results in an improved beading effect when in contact with water for greater cleaning efficiency.

This NXT Plus UV filter is constructed from Schott B270 glass for increased clarity as well as color fidelity and features an aluminum-alloy filter ring for durability while remaining lightweight. It is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Such filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your front lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the difference between NXT Plus UV and Hoya 52mm Ultraviolet UV (C) Haze Multicoated Filter (HOUVMC52)?

A: The The UV(C) has the UV properties in the multi-coatings while the NXT Plus has the UV properties in the glass. Also the NXT Plus is constructed from Schott B270 glass for increased clarity as well as color fidelity and it has knurled edges for a more textured grip when mounting or removing it from a lens.

Q: 2. Does this filter fit canon EF lens 50mm 1:1.8 STM?

A: Yes, the Hoya 49mm NXT Plus UV Filter will fit onto the Canon EF 50mm F/1.8 STM.

Q: 3. HelloI would like to know if this filter is good enough and it is clear enough without reducing the sharpness of the image at all ?Also is it on the lens 24-70 full frame body going to show any vignetting. Thanks a lott

A: Yes, the Hoya filter is excellent and will not affect the image quality of the lens or camera. Also, it will not vignette.

Q: 4. Does this filter fit a Nikon 85 1.4 lens?

A: The Nikon AF-S 85mm f/1.4G lens takes 77mm filters, and this Hoya 67mm NXT Plus UV filter will not fit. Based on the history of Nikon's 85mm lenses, the only one with a 67mm-filter thread is the Nikon 85mm f/1.8G, not the f/1.4G.

Q: 5. This filter popped up while I was looking for a Swarovski ATS 80 case. Does this fit on the Swarovski spotting scope?

A: Yes, the Swarovski ATS-80 25-50x80mm HD Spotting Scope accepts 82mm filters.

Q: 6. Will a lens "shade" fit the threads on this 77mm filter? I will be using a Sigma 40mm f1.4 art lens.

A: The hood on the Sigma 40mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens fits via a bayonet connection. It does not use threads. But the hood will work with the Hoya 77mm NXT Plus UV Filter attached.

Q: 7. Is it normal for a circular polarizer to have movement once attached to the lens?

A: Define movement. It screws on and that should be tight (no movement). The filter itself turns to orient the angle of the polarization (as opposed to a non circular polarizing filter which only really works when shooting in landscape mode)

Q: 8. What is the proper technique for attaching the filter to the filter threads on the front of the lens? The filter is very thin, with very little to grip, but is further rendered difficult to screw on by the presence of the rotating section of the filter. Basically you can only hold the rotating part so it is tough to get the threaded portion to turn and screw into the threads on the lens. The rotating part just rotates so you can barely get any torque on the threaded portion. I finally got mine to screw in by pushing firmly toward the lens as I turned the filter. I don't want to damage anything. When using this technique the threaded portion turns slowly because it drags more on the lens threads.

A: Since submitting this question, I had a chance to look closely at the filter with my OptiVisor. It seems there is a very thin knurled ring on the threaded part of the filter just below the rotating part. I will have to practice and see if I can master threading it to the lens without cross threading or otherwise damaging anything. I do have a filter wrench, but the threads are so fine and delicate that it is even more difficult to tell if you are crossthreading. That will take some practice, too. The lens filter threads are inside a metal ring of sorts that prevents full sized fingers from being able to grip that knurled surface enough to be able to turn the ring to thread it in.

Q: 9. Can I still use the lens cap with the filter attached?

A: Yes, you can still use a lens cap when using the Hoya 82mm NXT Plus UV Filter with your lens.

Q: 10. Does this filter have threads for mounting a lens shade? I will be using it on a Nikon 85mm f/1.8 D lens. I always use lens shades on all of my lenses.

A: No, Hoya 62mm NXT Plus UV Filter doesn't have threads for mounting a lens shade but you can use Nikon HN-23 Lens Hood (BH #NIHN23) and mount a lens shade on it.

[37 mm] I purchased this for one of my new lenses worth $2000. While away this past weekend my camera seen an impact to it. I didn't realize this when this happened but, I pulled out my lens to take some photos and glass was falling out of my camera. I looked at the front and realized that the filter was what took the impact and my lens was unscathed. I will be buying another one for sure

[UV] ...buy this for peace of mind. With my new cam and lens (yet to be reviewed NIKKOR Z 24-120 f/4 S), naturally I'm a little paranoid about dinging, scratching, weather infiltrating, etc - I'd rather this "cheaper" piece succumb than more expensive counterparts. Feel less guilty cleaning more often, less worried about carrying around exposed to light right, or when doing a quick swipe-clean with less than desirable wipes. Haven't really noticed impact of UV filter...

[0.08 lb] It works. Nothing special. Mainly got it to protect the lens from the abuse I know I'll put it through.

[0.08 lb] The NXT filter offers a bit more than your usual UV filter. This will also remove the blue casts that you will ordinarily see in raw film.
