With a wide angle of view and generous eye relief, the Baader Hyperion 24mm 68° Eyepiece for Astronomydelivers the performance that avid amateur astronomers demand for viewing and imaging. Engineered with an 8-element/5-group lens design, the eyepiece features Baader's proprietary 7-layer broadband multi-coatings to maximize light transmission across the entire visual spectrum with true color rendition and without the green tint and halos common in many astronomical eyepieces.

Baader made this eyepiece with a unique modular design that allows it to fit into standard 1.25" holders and accessories with the ability to remove the primary snout and have it fit into larger 2" holders. Since one of the lens groups is in the 1.25" snout, when it is removed it changes the focal length without changing the brightness or long 17mm eye relief. The focal length can also be changed through the use of compatible filters—allowing you to customize the magnification yield based on your optical tube assembly and need.

The eyepiece comes with a fold-down rubber eyecup for use with or without eyewear, and the eyecup can be completely removed to reveal a set of two threads. These M43 and M54 threads allow T-rings and other adapters to be mounted for direct connection of imaging systems for afocal and projection astrophotography techniques. This model is parfocal with all other Hyperion eyepieces except the 24mm version, which means there is little to no need to refocus when changing eyepieces within the Hyperion line.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I have this unit purchased, but it is on back order. Now I am looking at filters to go with it. Do filters need to be 1.25" or 2" in diameter to work in combination with this eyepiece?

A: You may use both 1.25" filters and 2" filters with the Alpine Astronomical Baader Hyperion 8-24mm Mark IV Zoom Eyepiece (1.25"/2"). According to the manufacturer, the Alpine Astronomical Baader Hyperion 8-24mm Mark IV Zoom Eyepiece (1.25"/2") includes both 1.25" and 2" barrels. The 1¼" Barrel is threaded for standard 1¼" filters, and the 2" Barrel for standard 2" filters.

Q: 2. Is it parfocal with other Alpine Hyperion eye pieces?

A: This is the only additional information B&H has on the Alpine Astronomical Baader 72° Hyperion 36mm Aspheric Eyepiece (1.25"/2") https://alpineastro.com/products/baader-36mm-hyperion-aspheric-2-eyepiece And yes to the compatibility with other eyepieces

Q: 3. what does focal length of 21mm eyepiece become when the snout is removed?

A: The Alpine Astronomical Baader Hyperion 68° 21mm Astronomical Eyepiece (1.25"/2") would become 32.2mm with the snout removed.

Q: 4. How many elements, in how many groups?

A: It has six elements in four groups.

Q: 5. It says you can remove the smaller nosepiece to use the 2" barrel. But it changes the focal length. To what?

A: This is the only information being offered by Alpine Astronomical https://alpineastro.com/products/baader-13mm-hyperion-68-modular-eyepiece#description

Q: 6. I have a Fuji X-Pro3 and T-Adaptor (for Fuji). Do I need this B&H #ALHTA43T2 in order to connect to the Mark 4 zoom?

A: That is correct, the B&H #ALHTA43T2 adapter is necessary to attach to T Mounts.

Q: 7. With the Barlow attached, this effectively goes between 3.5mm - 10mm, right?

A: With a 2X barlow correct

Q: 8. I have a celestron SE8, and would like to know if this would be a good choice for deep space viewing, and what accessories I would need to make this work?

A: Sure, you would need to upgrade into this Celestron 90-Degree Mirror Diagonal (2") for SCT Scopes BH #CEDM2S • MFR #93527 Being a 28 mm, the eyepiece would provide 72x . Note that the included 8se eyepiece is a 25mm, so in theory it would be similar to the magnification. Usually a much lower power is used, which would provide a wider view, like , Explore Scientific 62° Series 40mm LE Eyepiece (2") B&H # EXEPWP6240LE MFR # EPWP6240LE-01 or Tele Vue Plossl 55mm Eyepiece (2") B&H # TEEPL55P MFR # EPL-55.0

Q: 9. Is this zoom eyepiece click-stop? If yes, how many increments?

A: No it does not there are 4 markings 8,12,16 24 it works great

Q: 10. How do you fit this eyepiece to the diagonal that comes standard with Celestron Nexstar 8SE?

A: It fits the Celestron 8se directly as long as you are not using the 2" Schmidt-Cassegrain Adapter.

[17.0 mm] This device has been a complete game changer for my Celestron 8SE. I know I will have this piece even if I upgrade my telescope. The Barlow is great at the highest magnification, which is what it is for I guess. The zoom part on the barlow doesn't work as well as the zoom part without the barlow. I think that's how all barlow's work though.

I can't imagine having to change out the lenses - what a waste of time.

[6.5 x 3 x 2.5"] This eyepiece is absolutely perfect. It has plenty of eye relief, and a good field of view. Optically your view is real clear and crisp. I was so impressed by the performance of this eyepiece that I bought more of them in different magnifications so I could cover all aspects of enjoying the night sky. A great price range for this level of performance. In short, these are a must have!

[6.5 x 3 x 2.5"] Bought this with the 14mm and 28mm fine tuning rings (ftr) that are sold separately. The 1.25 nosepiece has a Barlow lens because if you take off the 1.25 and put it in a 2 diagonal it is 22.9mm still with the 68 afov.
With the 14 & 28mm ftr together it is 8.1mm focal length. So with one eyepiece I can get 13mm,10.8mm, 9.2mm, 8.1mm and basically 23mm focal lengths all in one eyepiece. I mainly use the 13mm and 23mm and save the 8mm for closeup views of small globular clusters and other DSOs.
It has an excellent flat field view to the edges and especially considering the price it is as good or near as good as EPs that cost three times as much. Baader hit it out of the ballpark with this one.

[68°] The eyepeice has a sharp focus throughout its zoom range. I replaced the very good eyepeice on the celestron regal m2 65ed with the Baader and am very happy with the results . The Regal comes with a good eyepeice but the focus softens a little above 35x . The baader stays sharp ,has a wider fov and is optically superior to it in general . The only issue is that it isnt truly parfocal. The addition of this eyepeice to a very good mid level scope has made a great improvement and well worth it . I cant wait to compare this to higher end scopes i think it will compete very well.

[68°] I am new to high-end telescopes and accessories. I bought this with my Celestron Evolution 8 and love it. I have zero complaints. Makes for fantastic views of everything I have looked at and is so convenient.

I do wish I had bought it with the matching 2.25 barlow.

[28.5 mm] This is a great eyepiece. Not having to switch eyepieces with very slight refocusing if any can be called no less than perfect. I'm loving it!
