Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Are the XLR and 1/8" stereo mini-jack outputs active at the same time? Could I use the XLR for Left and Right monitors while using the 1/8" stereo mini-jack for a subwoofer?

A: No, the left and right XLR outputs and the 1/8" output are not able to be used at the same time for connecting speakers. You can either use the XLR outputs OR the 1/8" stereo output to connect speakers.

Q: 2. Does this come with an adapter for 120 VAC USA style outlets?

A: This unit should included a 120v power supply for US usage.

Q: 3. Made In .... GERMANY ?

A: According to the information we have, our current inventory's Country of Origin is Germany. Please be aware this can change over the product's production life without notice.

Q: 4. What is the best way to connect this to an iMac

A: You will connect it you your computers 3.5mm audio out jack to the ESIs 3.5mm audio input connector.

Q: 5. The outputs... are the XLR and Stereo Mini outs active simultaneously? Can I send to 2 sets of speakers

A: Palmer recommends not using both outputs at the same time.

Q: 6. Can you plug good studio headphones into the stereo output on the back and toggle between the headphones and Nearfield monitors?

A: Yes, you can connect studio headphones and nearfield monitors and toggle between them. Depending on the headphones, you may want to use them with a headphone amplifier to provide more gain.

Q: 7. How is the stereo image on this device? Is it an accurate representation at lower levels?

A: Being a passive device, the output is uncolored and offers solid results even at attenuated levels.

Q: 8. where is the SPDIF input? useless for me, since i monitor from the digital out of my DAW... the Presonus Central Station has all the analog in and outs plus a SPIDIF/Toslink input.

A: There are NO digital connections (SPDIF):Inputs: Balanced2 x combo XLR-1/4 Aux (unbalanced):1 x TRS 3.5 mm2 x mono RCA ----------------------------------------------------------Output Connectors: 5 x XLR: (4 x balanced; 1 x unbalanced)

Q: 9. Can you turn off the LED lights on the top panel?

A: There are no controls to turn off the LEDs on the Palmer Monicon L controller.

Q: 10. Does the output go out simultaneously on the TRS and XLR connections?

A: The question is puzzling to me because I only know of 1 stereo out. It is an XLR connection not TRS. You can use cables that connect XLR to this controller and then TRS to a monitor or other amp if you need. But there are not 2 simultaneous outs. The in is XLR as well. Additionally, I have used this device between my signal out and the monitors for about a month and I like the solid stateness and the smooth glide of the volume nob. Ability to just mute the monitors is nice too. Especially nice if those features need to be isolated from your main controlling device. Hope that helps.

[1.8 lb] Title says it all. Pro Tools suites are connected via Dante. Volume control on Dante monitor interface is tiny and inconvenient. We run the audio through this to control input to powered monitors.

[10 Hz to 40 kHz] This works exactly how it should. The knob has a very nice feel and the wood grain sides looks great. Overall it's a solid product!

[1.8 lb] I recently upgraded my studio with a 16-in/16/out audio interface, but with no headphone jack and no monitor control. This little box solved my monitor control issue perfectly. Extremely transparent to my ears, very solid build, all the controls have a nice feel to them, and great looks. The wood sides are more of a walnut color than what's shown on the website, which was perfect. Highly recommended.

[1.8 lb] I replaced a TC electronic level pilot and I was concerned it would not be much of a change. No concerns now - better bass, better definition and a mute button - I am really glad I upgraded

[1] The build quality of this monitor controller is really what impressed me the most. The actual unit itself is pretty simple; it's only a knob and two buttons, and it's passive. From what I can tell after some simple A/B testing, it's completely transparent. That being said, I would not trust the stereo balance at the extreme low positions (-36 or -85). This isn't a fault of the unit, it's just the nature of a potentiometer. To have 100% perfect stereo balance throughout the entire range of the knob's travel, you would need to spend over $1000, so this will provide excellent results for all but the most discerning studios. Let's be real here, you're not buying this if you're in a million dollar studio.

If you're like me and thinking about buying a cheaper controller (I'm willing to bet I know which M brand and B brand you're looking at! ), spend the extra money and get a product that's made with quality materials and actually has detailed specifications provided from the manufacturer. You'll be glad you did.

[600 Ohms] I have an audio lab and I use some Genelec near field powered monitors through a patch bay. I needed to keep everything balanced to the monitors, so this did the job nicely. The pot has a very good feel and the mono and mute buttons come in handy.

[10 Hz to 40 kHz] It is an ideal volume control between my mixer and self-powered studio monitors. Nice fit and finish but smooth and elegant in operation too. The single large volume knob is smooth and allows for granular level of volume control. The mute button is a nice touch too. You can see, feel, and hear the German engineering that produced this.

[10 Hz to 40 kHz] I compared the listening with attenuator ATTY of A designs. Monicon seems more open and transparent. The case is also solid and of an interesting design. Very satisfied with this product.

[10 Hz to 40 kHz] Iam extremely pleased. I ordered the product and it arrived the next day as promised. Well packaged and it works great. This is my first order with B&H and it won't be my last.
