Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Any perspective on if this might make a good podcast headset? I'm considering pairing it with my RODECaster Pro for mobile podcast production. I'm thinking it would be simple to have mic and headshet cabling integrated (as opposed to mic stand, headphones and cable, mic and cable). Is audio quality solid?

A: This is a good choice for a podcast. It is actually a broadcast quality headset with full frequency response in both the headphone and mic.

Q: 2. Can I use this for music vocals? I would like to use it with my iRig DuoPro and travel guitar. It has the correct plugs but how about sound quality? I need something for practicing not for stage or recording. I currently use a Sharp over ear mounted mic with Bose noise canceling headphones but that is too much attached to my head to be comfortable.

A: The sound quality from the mic is pretty good, not up to specs as proper performance mics, but certainly better than your average bluetooth headset. It is primarily used for broadcast, so it does have a professional quality.

Q: 3. I have a technical question, I'm hoping you can help. - I own a Zoom H5. - I have just purchased the BPHS1 - I want to record Skype interviews (for my podcast) but am a little unsure on how to configure Zoom to achieve this. From my Mac, I have a cable that goes from the audio out, into the TRS input #2 on the H5 - to record my guest's voice. My headset/mic will be plugged into the XLR input #1 on the H5 - to record my voice. What do I need to do, to be able to HEAR my guest's voice? Is there anything in particular I need to configure on the H5?

A: The scenario you are describing requires the routing of audio in a way that is a bit more complex, and would best be served by using a mixer and audio interface. Connect the BPHS1 into a mixer like the Alto ZMX862 Zephyr. Take AUX SEND 1 out and plug it into input 1 of an audio interface like the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 USB Audio Interface (2nd Generation). With regards to the skype audio in your computer, Take the master out of the audio interface and plug it into a stereo channel of the alto mixer. Now that all of the audio is in the mixer, take the master output and plug it into your Zoom H5 to record .

Q: 4. I have a BPHS1 that came with an 4 pin XLR female cable. I'm trying to get it to run into a Zoom H6 handy recorder. Is there an adapter that can do 4 pin XLR male to 3 pin XLR male for use with the Zoom? Will I be able to record with the microphone and hear through the headphones?

A: The 4-pin version of the broadcast headset is for a communications system. The best and most cost effective solution is to change out the cable with the appropriate model, which is the Audio-Technica BPCB1 Replacement Cable for BPHS1, BH #AUBPCB1. The headphone connection would then need to be adapted for the Zoom H6, with a Hosa Technology GMP112 Male Stereo 3.5mm Mini to Female Stereo 1/4" Phone Adapter, BH #HOASMMSPF.

Q: 5. How do I set up Audio-Technica BPHS1 with Rodecaster Pro and a Mac for Zoom calls?

A: The BPHS1 broadcast headset has separate connectors for the microphone and headphones. The XLR connector is the microphone, so that would connect to an XLR microphone input on the RodeCaster Pro while the 1/4" connector from the BPHS1 connects to a headphone output on the RodeCaster Pro. The RodeCaster Pro then connects to your computer via USB.

Q: 6. How long is the included xlr/phono cable?

A: The Audio technica BPHS1 ships with the BPCB1 cable which is 3.3 m (10.8') long. a href= http://bhpho.to/1zeJPSh target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1zeJPSh/a

Q: 7. I wanted to use this headset to dictate to a computer while listening to output audio. From the connectors, I am not sure it will work. I have an andrea pure audio external sound card with two inputs for headset and mic. How would that work with this product?

A: It is not made to use with a computer. This is a professional broadcast headset for broadcasting sporting events and this type of thing. It has 2 connectors on it one XLR and one neither one is available on a computer. It is normally plugged into a broadcast console that has the ability to accept both types of connectors. I would check with computers where they will have headsets for computers that will have these same functions. Only they are purpose built for computers.

Q: 8. Hello, can I use this headset for recording songs as a singer using either an Android cellphone or an iPad? Thank you in advance.

A: This headset will not connect to a mobile phone.

Q: 9. What transmitter is this headset compatible with?

A: The Audio-Technica AT889cW is compatible with current Audio Technica UniPak transmitters which feature a 4 pin locking Hirose connector. This includes the 1800, 2000, and 3000 series as well as the System 9 and 10 series.

Q: 10. Do these mics need phantom power? I didn't think so, but it won't work with our passive unpowered phone hybrids.

A: Just as Henry H. explained, the mic on the headset is dynamic, so it ould not require phantom power. I use my headset with a small Behringer mixer with phantom power turned off and it works fine. You probably have tried this, but I would suggest making sure your trim and/or gain is turned up because I have found that some mixers resist the signal significantly more than others.I would also suggest listening back with another headset or loudspeaker that you know will work just in case there is a headphone out setting or bad output you are unaware of.

[9.8' / 3 m] This headset is comfortable although I did buy another set of padding for extra comfort. The sound quality is great. The microphone quality is great and it does a great job at cutting out background noise.

[Dynamic] I have a side gig as PA announcer for a local university and they decided to employ a DJ for their basketball games this year. He plays so loud it adversely affects my hearing and my equilibrium during and after the games. I have used a Shure WH20XLR headset for 20 years but it has no earpads for passive noise reduction.

The A-T BPHS-1 has changed my announcing experience. I don't use the 1/4" plug since I don't need to hear my own voice so I just plug the XLR cable into my switch box and talk away. It greatly reduces the DJ music but I can still converse with the officials and fellow workers at the scorers table. The best part is being able to remove the headset after the game and not feel fatigued from battling all of the noise.

The A-T also has a better frequency response than my Shure in addition to being more sensitive so I don't have to shout to be heard and my voice comes across deeper as well. It is extremely well made and I have not experienced any of the creaking issues mentioned in other reviews. The boom mike stays where you put it and you don't have to have the windscreen right up against your mouth.

[550 Ohms] I use these for my radio show. Great quality, especially for remotes! They save me from having to set up mics and headsets without losing audio quality. Much faster setup and take down.
