Use the Baader 0.6 Neutral Density Filter 1.25" - Alpine Astronomicalto reduce the amount of light coming into your eye during lunar observation and improve the view and contrast. The lens surfaces are fully multi-coated with Phantom Group seven-layer optical coatings. This maximizes light transmission across the entire visual spectrum, stepping down the light throughput while maintaining color-neutral views without reflections, ghosting, or stray interference light.

Its housing is made to fit most 1.25" eyepieces and has female threads for stacking it with other ND and colored filters to further improve views when observing planets and other objects. This iteration of the ND filter line has an optical density of 0.6, with 25% transmission and a reduction factor of 4—making it ideal for viewing and photographing the moon at its half-moon phase.

The filter can also improve solar viewing, but only as a secondary pre-filter stacked with a primary dedicated solar filter. Failure to use a dedicated solar filter may result in permanent eye damage up to and including blindness.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this work for visual astronomy also, or is it more designed for astrophotography?

A: Yes, this can be used as a conventional Barlow for viewing.

Q: 2. how can I adapt the Baader U-Filter 2" to a Nikkor AF-S 50mm 1:1.8G Lens?

A: 2" is the outside diameter of the filter, not the thread. It's an M48 thread as stated on the manufacturer website, baader-planetarium. Use a normal step-up ring.

Q: 3. What items are in the box?

A: The Alpine Astronomical Baader 2x Carl Zeiss Abbe Barlow Lens (1.25") BH #ALZBARLOW • MFR #ZBARLOW comes with the Alpine Astronomical Baader 1.25"/T-2 Click-Lock Eyepiece Holder Adapter BH #ALT208 • MFR #T2-08 and a 2 year aarranty.

Q: 4. How can we adapt the 2" UV bandpass filter to a Sony E-mount 49mm lens?

A: I know of no adapter to mount a 2" (50.8mm) filter on to a 49mm opening. I do know some that use gaffing tape.

Q: 5. What is the outer housing diameter of this piece?? I need it to fit inside the 1.25" Orion Variable Universal Camera Adapter. So this eyepiece needs to have an outside diameter of less than 38.3mm.

A: The outer housing diameter of this eyepiece is listed at 101.5 mm so it would not fit.

Q: 6. Can I use the Baader 76 degree Morpheus 4.5 mm eyepiece in the Celestron Regal M2 100ED spotting scope I have ordered from B&H?

A: It probably wont work properly because its too magnified. The Spotting scope is too short a focal length, I would recommend a 12 mm & higher.

Q: 7. is this a filter that makes planets less bright?

A: Yes, Neutral Density filters make things darker however. It is mainly for use with the moon. The Alpine Astronomical Baader 0.6 Neutral Density Filter to reduce the amount of light coming into your eye during lunar observation and improve the view and contrast.

Q: 8. Would this lens Will this EP work effectively in a f/10 C5 scope?

A: Yes this Eyepiece would work with that Scope.

Q: 9. Is it parfocal with other Alpine Hyperion eye pieces?

A: This is the only additional information B&H has on the Alpine Astronomical Baader 72° Hyperion 36mm Aspheric Eyepiece (1.25"/2") https://alpineastro.com/products/baader-36mm-hyperion-aspheric-2-eyepiece And yes to the compatibility with other eyepieces

Q: 10. I have a Fuji X-Pro3 and T-Adaptor (for Fuji). Do I need this B&H #ALHTA43T2 in order to connect to the Mark 4 zoom?

A: That is correct, the B&H #ALHTA43T2 adapter is necessary to attach to T Mounts.

[0.6] Alpine does a great job and for the price. Good eye relief for a 9mm eyepiece.

[0.1 lb] The 24mm hyperion works very well with my f6.5 achromatic telescope. Its 68 degree FOV translates to 2.4 degree true field of view on that scope, a definite step up from the eyepieces that came with the scope from Celestron. Very little chromatic aberation noticed even looking at the bright moon. The slight green halo at the top edge of the full moon was only noticed when I remembered to look for it - not a problem for me as a visual observer. Jupiter gave good views, only a little soft at the very edge of the field. The only problem I experienced is that it's on the heavy side. I can't achieve balance on my mount the way it's set up.

[Multi-Coating] Finally got to use this for the first time last weekend on Jupiter. Provided nice, sharp images to combine with my Baader RGB filters

[0.6] This eyepiece provides an unsurpassed combination of wide field and long eye relief. So if you're looking for both in a single ocular, look no further. It's wonderfully comfortable, and just...gets out of the way.

[1.25"] I live in heavily light polluted skies, yet I can go out in the backyard and look up at the billowing clouds of the milky way. I can actually see meteorite showers when they are happening. This is all possible by using this filter in conjunction with a Gen3 night vision device. This filter blocks out all light below 685nm which is basically all the man made light pollution leaving mostly celestial light for your enjoyment. This does cut out hydrogen alpha light, so you will not be seeing nebulae with this, but a separate band pass filter is used for that purpose.

[0.6] Baader makes some great lenses and filters, I have yet to be disappointed and this one is no different.

[1.25"] Very nice. Could use one more thread though. Seems a little short on threading when trying to attach and remove while making lens changes in the dark. Makes me a little nervous sometimes that I will drop it during removal from the lens. Good quality though and I like having it around.

[0.1 lb] Baader Orthoscopic EPs are built on the old Zeiss Abbe construction with superior smooth polishing of the lens with anti-reflective coatings that when splitting Mizar down to its smallest star there was no spikiness, just a perfectly round star. It is very sharp and bright. The little eye guard is handy because it is a very short eye relief and blocks light from the side. Great for lunar with the proper filter, same for planets and it Barlows very well for Mercury when visible.
