Combining the classic look of a Turner microphone with the futuristic glow of four, built-in blue LED lights, Heil Sound The Fin Vocal Microphone with LED Lights Matte Blackfrom Heil Sound The Fin Vocal Microphone with LED Lights Matte Blackis a dynamic, cardioid vocal microphone designed for recording, broadcasting, and live sound applications. It uses a shock-mounted, large-diaphragm element with a 1.25" aluminum, low-mass voice coil assembly to deliver a smooth, 50 Hz to 18 kHz frequency response with a 4-kHz boost for added brilliance and presence. The mic offers effective side and rear noise rejection to protect against unwanted off-axis noise and feedback on stage.

The Fin features a matte-black body with a blue, molded internal foam windscreen inside the grille. The LED lights can only be illuminated when supplied with 48V phantom power by a mixing board, via a balanced XLR microphone cable. If LED lights are not required, the microphone's audio works perfectly well without phantom power and with an unbalanced mic line.

Standard 5/8"-27 microphone stand threads allow The Fin to be mounted on booms or floor stands.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the length of each of the two arms? Joint to joint preferably. Thank you.

A: Both arms are approximately 18 , mesured from the center of one joint to the center of the other.

Q: 2. Would this fit Sennheiser E835 Dynamic Cardioid Vocal Microphone?

A: No, the Sennheiser e835 has a different shape from the Heil Sound mics that this windscreen is designed to fit. For the e835 you will want a foam windscreen that is made for 1-5/8" diameter like the WindTech 900 Series Windscreen 1-5/8" Inside Diameter - Black (B&H # WI900B) or Auray WHF-158 Foam Windscreen for 1-5/8" Diameter Microphones - Black (B&H # AUWHF158).

Q: 3. Is this compatible with blue yeti black edition mic ?

A: This windscreen is recommended for specific Heil microphones, but it would fit on other large diaphragm mics, such as the Blue Yeti.

Q: 4. Does it include the mounting hardware?

A: Yes !

Q: 5. will this fit an re320?

A: Yes, the Heil Sound PRSMB Shockmount for PR40 / Black will work with the Electro-Voice RE320.

Q: 6. The top of my desk has molding directly underneath so that a clamp-style mount doesn't work for me. My question is, can the clamp be removed to allow a direct mount (i.e. a plate with screw holes in it)?

A: You would require the compatible rise for it to be able to do that. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/616745-REG/Heil_Sound_RS_1_RS_1_Riser_Mount.html

Q: 7. How deep does this grip the desk? My desk has a beveled edge about 1.5" in. Would this reach far enough to grip past that?

A: While we do not have specific measurements regarding how far the grip would reach on this clamp, our estimation would be that this may be too short for a table with a beveled edge 1/5'' in length. In which case you may want to consider mounting the broadcast stand directly into the desktop, or using a desktop mic stand like this BH #KMTMSSBBK.

Q: 8. What is the switch on PRO SET 3 and how is it used and when is it being used. Difference between Phase and OUT. Why was no manual included in the box?

A: Heil Proset 3 headphones feature a phase reverse switch. When switched to the OUT position, the polarity will be reversed, providing the listener with a different perceived positioning of sound in their head. This is very helpful to prevent hearing fatigue, during long recording or mixing sessions.

Q: 9. Please explain the mounting portion of the boom?

A: This microphone arm features a 5/8"-27 thread compatible with most microphone shock mounts.

Q: 10. Does that fit for any microphone arm?

A: I have the Heil Riser and use it with the Rode PSA1 Studio Arm. It fits perfectly. The hole is 0.5 inches in diameter, is slightly less than 1.0 deep. There is a stop at the bottom of the risers mounting hole to prevent the stub from going all the way through. The PSA1 mounting stub rests nicely in the riser and will rotate with some gentle pressure due to friction. There is a nice brass bushing and a locking screw in the riser. Very well made and sturdy. I'm not sure if other brands will fit as nicely, but the Rode arm works very well with this riser.

[Solid-State] Put my Heil Sound PL2T mic boom away awhile ago & the clamp went missing. :P This replacement fits perfectly (expected) and feels solid with a substantial mic on the boom, mounted on a wood table edge.

[Phantom Power] Needed a desk mic for my Yaesu FTDX101 transceiver. Works well out of the box. Used the eq settings found on https://heilhamradio.com/ to make it sound even better. Get good audio reports. No complaints. Fine product.

[Mono] I bought this mic to record electric guitar and it works exceedingly well for that purpose in both clean channel and overdrive. The mic is a dynamic that works best with pre-amps that have a normal 1.5K to 2K input impedance which makes it useful with a wide array of modern audio equipment. (I also use a Shure SM57 and a Shure SM7B for electric guitar and they work best with pre-amps that offer a lower input impedance such as 500 ohms.) The sonic characteristic of the Heil PR20 sits between the SM57 and the SM7B. The Heil has a rich low end, a slightly forward mid range and a very smooth top end.

[Side Address] What a wonderful alternative shockmount for the RE-20 (and similar bodied EV mics).

Shown in my pic holding an RE320 on Auray Desktop stand with On-Stage Front Address Pop Filter for EV RE20 and RE320. Killer combo.

[Side Address] Excellent microphone with balanced sound from low to high with smooth, flat mid range. Looks expensive with a durable finish. HEIL stands by their stuff with good service after the sale. While it is overkill for ham radio, it does sound good on a transceiver and looks good in the shack. This microphone really shines on straight vocals, whether singing or speaking, with rather good clarity and articulation. This mic compares well with the Sennheiser e835 and has a slightly more open, airy high end than the e835, which has a slightly smoother, richer lower end. The Pr20 is especially good for female voices, while the e835 is slightly better for male voices - especially speech. But, hey, you be the judge! This is a solid, well made product that looks exceptionally good with fine fit and finish. At least that is MY take ... your mileage may differ. TT
