Providing performance at a reasonable price for most beginners, the Explore Scientific 15mm Eyepiece 52° Series 1.25"produces a moderate power in most telescopes, and is a perfect addition to your observation arsenal.

Outfitted with a generous 52° apparent field of view, it employs a flat-field lens system that is treated with their proprietary Enhanced Multi-Layer Deposition (EMD) coatings to produce bright and clear views that are flat edge-to-edge. This lens design makes this eyepiece ideal for averted viewing techniques in which you view dim deep sky objects, such as wispy nebulae, indirectly using the portion of the eye that is most sensitive to light.

This model of the 52° series is offered here with a standard 1.25" barrel to make it compatible with the most popular size drawtubes and accessories. The eyepiece is argon-filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof against condensation and dew and resistant to fogging. A textured collar provides a slip-resistant grip, especially in cold weather or while wearing gloves. A fold down rubber eyecup makes it comfortable and easy to view through, with or without eyewear.

[19.4 mm] I use this eyepiece with my Celestron 8SE for viewing solar system and deep space objects. I am extremely happy with the optical quality. The focus is sharp edge to edge. The build quality is excellent. I envision the eyepiece lasting many years. A nice bonus is that, with registration, the product carries a lifetime, fully transferrable warranty. I plan to buy more Explore Scientific eyepieces.

[15mm] Of all the gear I have ever owned, for the money, this is the best deal out there. Period. Razor sharp optics, good construction, good eye relief, and a good size piece of glass to look though. A great all around eyepiece. Do yourself a favor, if you are looking for a 20 mm range +/- 5mm, buy this.

[19.4 mm] I bought this eyepiece for use on a Sky Watcher 102 mm Maksutov telescope. It has 54x magnification, an eye-filling 68 deg apparent FO, and a true FOV of 1.25 deg. This is perfect for viewing the moon and many other things, including Messier objects. The 24 mm eyepiece is large, but not too large and heavy for this small (11.5 long) telescope. It does not display noticeable vignetting, and star images are sharp from edge to edge. The 19 mm eye relief is enough you can wear glasses if needed, and if not, your eyelashes dont touch. It is half the weight and 1/3 the cost of a Nagler eyepiece, with similar performance. It is much more comfortable to use than the 25 m Ploessl which comes with the telescope.
