Providing performance at a reasonable price for most beginners, the Explore Scientific 40mm Eyepiece 52° Series (2")produces a very low power in most telescopes, and is a perfect addition to your observation arsenal.

Outfitted with a generous 52° apparent field of view, it employs a flat-field lens system that is treated with their proprietary Enhanced Multi-Layer Deposition (EMD) coatings to produce bright and clear views that are flat edge-to-edge. This lens design makes this eyepiece ideal for averted viewing techniques in which you view dim deep sky objects, such as wispy nebulae, indirectly using the portion of the eye that is most sensitive to light.

This model of the 52° series is offered here with a large 2" barrel that allows the maximum amount of light to pass through to the eye for a more comfortable observational experience with greatly reduced eyestrain and fatigue. The eyepiece is argon-filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof against condensation and dew and resistant to fogging. A textured collar provides a slip-resistant grip, especially in cold weather or while wearing gloves. A fold down rubber eyecup makes it comfortable and easy to view through, with or without eyewear.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. HOW THIS EYEPIECE'S QUALITY COMPAIR TO THE 24 MM PANOPTIC EYEPIECE ?

A: The Panoptic is slightly better... it's nowhere near 2x better, which is usually the price difference. I tested out quite a few televue vs ES eyepieces in 68, 82, and 100 degrees and have always found the ES to be the best bang for the buck by a pretty noticeable margin.

Q: 2. If it will fit a Sky-Watcher Evostar 72" telescope?

A: No, it will not. Designed for specific Explore Scientific telescopes.

Q: 3. I have a celestron SE8, and would like to know if this would be a good choice for deep space viewing, and what accessories I would need to make this work?

A: Sure, you would need to upgrade into this Celestron 90-Degree Mirror Diagonal (2") for SCT Scopes BH #CEDM2S • MFR #93527 Being a 28 mm, the eyepiece would provide 72x . Note that the included 8se eyepiece is a 25mm, so in theory it would be similar to the magnification. Usually a much lower power is used, which would provide a wider view, like , Explore Scientific 62° Series 40mm LE Eyepiece (2") B&H # EXEPWP6240LE MFR # EPWP6240LE-01 or Tele Vue Plossl 55mm Eyepiece (2") B&H # TEEPL55P MFR # EPL-55.0

Q: 4. Will this fit the ES ted0806-01 80mm f6 APO?

A: The Explore Scientific Crayford Style Focuser for APO EDT Series Tmm f/elescopes (2") BH #EXFOCEDCRBN0 • MFR #FOCEDCRBN-01 should fit the ES 80mm f/6 APO

Q: 5. The Sky-Watcher Evo 100ED and the Sky-Warcher 80ED both have Synta 96mm OT attachments for a focuser. Is this a 96mm focuser?

A: The Explore Scientific APO EDT Series Rack & Pinion Focuser (2") is not a 96" focuser.

Q: 6. Will this focuser fit an 86.4 OTA?

A: The Explore Scientific Crayford Style Focuser for APO EDT Series Telescopes (2") will only fit Explore Scientific brand APO EDT series telescopes.

Q: 7. Will this work with an Evostar 72 APO refractor?

A: Yes, the Explore Scientific Field Flattener for f/5 to f/7 Refractors is compatible with the Sky-Watcher Evostar ED APO 72mm f/5.8 Refractor.

Q: 8. Does this fit on the ES 102mm?

A: Yes it is compatible with the Explore Scientific 102mm f/7 Essential Apochromatic ED Triplet Refractor.

Q: 9. What is the thread size on the camera side? Is it M42x0.75 or M48x0.75? Does it include an M48 adapter?

A: On the camera side the threads are M42 for standard T-mounts.

Q: 10. Is there an adapter to fit this to an edge hd 9.25?

[27.1 mm] Very impressed with Explore Scientific 52° Series 30mm Eyepiece (1.25). I have the Explore Scientific 82° Series 4.7mm, 8.8mm, and 14mm. Also have Explore Scientific 68° Series 24mm, and Explore Scientific 52° Series 30mm eyepieces. Excellent build quality and visual experience. I use these on a Celestron 8SE and Celestron C5.

[35 mm] This is my first 2" EP and my first 82 degree FOV EP. The view of the double cluster (I could see both in the FOV with my Meade LS-8) was simply spectacular. I was a little anxious about spending close to $300 for an EP. However it is definitely worth the money.

[35 mm] I live in a light polluted area and do not have a "Go To"mount. I purchased this eyepiece for the wide field of view and low power which enables me to sweep the sky to find objects. I knew about the wide FOV but have been pleasantly surprised by the color and clarity of the objects I view. I cannot detect any distortion even at the edges.

This is an excellent eye piece for wide field viewing needed to search the sky. I recently purchased a 2 inch Barlow lense and am anxious use this eyepiece with higher magnification.
