Designed for small- to medium-aperture refractors and Maksutov-Cassegrain optical tube assemblies (OTAs), the Sky-Watcher EQM-35 EQ GoTo Mount Headis an ideal mount for most astrophotography and visual astronomy needs.

With a 22-pound payload capacity, two counterweights, and a Vixen-style dovetail saddle, the mount is made to deliver the smooth movement and tracking required for long-exposure shots. The equatorial design and built-in polar alignment scope allow for fast and precise alignment with the capability to track along the right ascension axis and avoid the field rotation that alt-azimuth mounts suffer from, maintaining the subject's orientation throughout the exposure period. Removing the declination assembly allows the use of optional Star Adventurer L-brackets or ball head adapters, turning the mount into a heavy-duty tracking system for wide-field photography of the star field and Milky Way galaxy with a camera and lens.

The brain of the mount is the SynScan hand controller. This system has an internal database of 42,900+ celestial objects, multiple daytime and nighttime alignment-assistance procedures, deep-sky tours, and updatable firmware. Periodic Error Correction (PEC), backlash compensation, and Pointing Accuracy Enhancement (PAE) systems allow you to improve the slew, GoTo, and tracking performance over time to make the mount more precise as you use it. With multiple slew speeds and automatic tracking capabilities, finding and keeping objects centered in the field of view is easy whether you're viewing the fast-moving Moon or much slower deep-space subjects.

Whether you want to view celestial objects, photograph them through a telescope, or simply take wide-field shots of the stars, the EQM-35 EQ GoTo Mount will handle it all with precision.

[12 VDC at 4 A] This is way more than you need for simple wide view astro photography. This gets you a GoTo mount that is good enough for beginner astronomy as well. The stainless steel tripod is a bit heavy, probably more than the EQm35 mount needs, but it lets you move up to the next level gear - EQ5 and HEQ5 - easily with the same tripod. A few small whines: the polar scope is excellent but un-illuminated, so you have to your own hand-held red LED. It comes without a 12V power source, so you have to find your own.

[RS-232/RS-422] First off ... B&H did an awesome job getting me this mount. I ordered it on a Monday and I had it by Wednesday. It was shipped across the country and I had it in a day and a half ( ... and it was free shipping!). You can't beat that.

The mount itself is awesome. I can't see the North Star from my backyard, so polar alignment is a little tricky, but even with a rough alignment, this mount tracks great. I followed the Pleiades for forty five minutes to photograph it, and only had to reset it in the view finder once.

It is quiet, it is sturdy, it tracks well, and it is pretty easy to set up. I would be sure to set it up where you plan to use it, because it is pretty heavy once it is fully assembled.

I also like that this can be adjusted to turn it into a lighter weight Star Tracker for a digital camera. My telescope isn't the best for astrophotography, so I plan to use it as a modified star tracker quite a bit.

For the price, this might be the best equatorial mount on the market.

[Yes] I am a rank amateur when it comes to astrophotography, I only took up the hobby a couple of months ago. After a learning curve that took about a week or so playing around with this, and watching some YouTube videos from folks that know what they are doing, I got some great 3 to 5 minute exposures of the Orion nebula, and just tonight, 10 to 14 minute exposures of the milky way. Almost all of the photos were razor sharp. If you want a good decently priced EQ mount, I highly recommend the Sky-Watcher EQ-35 PRO!

[42 x 17 x 9"] Was looking for a reasonably priced option with GoTo functionality. Started with the Star Adventurer 2i but decided I didnt want to spend time manually searching for objects. This mount is absolutely perfect. Light enough to travel with, yet sturdy and strong enough to handle a decent payload. Most importantly, its GoTo functionality is seamless and accurate. Highly recommend!

[Yes] Excellent well made mount, flawless operation. Like any mount don't overload it, manufacturers ratings tend to be on the optimistic side so be realistic about what you're mounting on it and you will be very pleased. Highly recommended!

[1] This is my first EQ mount so got no base of comparison, however after a good amount of research, I decided to go with the Skywatcher EQM35-pro. For the beginner to intermediate amateur astronomer It’s probably best bang for the buck.

Ordering & shipping from B&H went without a hitch. Just factor another $150 on top of price to get to your doorstep. Setup was very straightforward. First impressions, this is a sturdy piece of equipment. Everything was well-packed (with good instructions) so I was able to assemble and get it polar aligned within about 30-40 minutes. I had not used a synscan controller before but it’s quite intuitive, just plug in all numbers for your location. I opted for the 1-star alignment (Vega), fine-tuned a bit to get star in the middle of my EP, then asked to pull up M31. This thing slewed for a few secs then boom Andromeda right on the money. I left it there for a good hour while I was futzing around with some other stuff, at 30x M31 still right smack in the middle of my EP. Impressive. I pulled up the Pleiades next, then M42 and voila! After a year of dealing with a hand-operated altazimuth in light polluted skies (where finding new DSO’s manually feels like a little victory each time), this thing was like hitting the Easy button. I then tried a longer exposure frame of Pleiades at 30 sec (unguided) stars were all pins. And when I returned to M31 later at night I even noticed it execute a meridian flip! I was worried it would trip on itself so to speak but handled its motor cables and never snagged anything. I am very satisfied to say the least.

As for weight and balancing, it handles my rig nicely even when operating right at the max limit for its specs. I have a 6 inch newt (viewing) with a Crayford so that OTA runs about 14-15lbs and then 70mm ED piggy-back on the newt with reducer/flattener before the DSLR for another 7lbs. The two counterweights both needed to go all way to the bottom and it was just right.

Highly recommended.

[Yes] After a couple months backorder I was thrilled to get this off the truck today. Fedex gets 2 stars for delivering a horribly gouged and crushed box but Sky Watcher gets 7 stars for packing it so the mount and all components not only survived the beating but came out pristine. After grappling with smaller/larger mounts (considered the HEQ5) this looks perfect for my needs. Sky Watcher has a tremendous reputation for building quality, price effective mounts and it shows in the EQM-35. Be sure to half the payload rating if you're doing astrophotography. BH Photo continues to earn by trust and loyalty. Highly recommend.
