Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What mount could I use to clamp this to a desk?

A: I am using a Manfrotto Superclamp with 5/8' stud

Q: 2. How much weight could this hold if i decide to use this as a boom arm?

A: This extension is not recommended for use as a boom arm, therefore the manufacturer would not offer a load capacity in this case. Matthews does offer the Matthews Baby Boom, B&H # MABBM which can fit light stands with a 5/8" pin, specifically C-stands or roller stands. https://bhpho.to/2ZCoRhS

Q: 3. Does the fixed 5/8 stud have internal threads on the end and what are they?

A: No, the 5/8 stud on the top of the Matthews Telescopic Baby Stand Extension does not have threads.

Q: 4. Can I use this with the Matthews Reverse Stand - 7' (2.1m) ?

A: Yes, the Matthews Telescopic Baby Stand Extension will work on the Matthews Reverse Stand.

Q: 5. What is the attached pin used for?

A: The pin attached to the top of the Kupo Baby Stand Extension (6") is designed to connect a light fixture that has a standard 5/8" receiver on the yoke or on the base of the light fixture. It will also support any other lighting equipment that has a 5/8" receiver and uses the standard 5/8" stud.

Q: 6. Support weight?

A: Yes. Not sure how much you want to support. I actually use mine to support the ends of a full size 4' slider when it is on a dolly. So it is partially supporting a 2575 head and full Alexa package.

Q: 7. Why is it called baby ? - makes it sound like it's smaller than a standard light stand - will it only work with baby stands?

A: Baby refers to the size of the mounting post atop the stand and not the size of the stand. It's the most common size used on photographic light stands. The next size up is junior which is quite a bit larger and made for heavy light fixtures. So yes, this extension will only attach to a stand with a baby post.

Q: 8. Can this be used in reverse? As in, using it to attach to a lighting grid when you need to bring lights closer to the ground when hung from a lighting grid

A: Yes you can use this in reverse. It is always important to use a safety cable when you are rigging overhead and you would need to use a safety on it as well as the light.

Q: 9. Is this compatible with the inovativ cart c stand clamp holder?

A: No, the Matthews Telescopic Baby Stand Extension is too small for the Inovativ C-Stand Storage Clamps.

Q: 10. If attaching this to this the impact ceiling mount does it reduce the overal maximum load? [Will be drilling this into cement ]

A: The support weight of the Impact Telescopic Baby Stand Extension (49") does not change when you attach it to another support. But what ever has the least support weight the stand extension or the mount will be the maximum support.

[1.02 lb] we just used these to mount some pretty heavy LED panels in a studio we built for a client. We mounted a wall plate to the concrete ceiling above the drop ceiling, and used these to get the light to the right height below the drop. Didn't even use all the stages, but it's great to have the flexibility.

[1.02 lb] I had ordered a telescoping light stand with attached adjustable clamp for my desktop from Amazon. While it was serviceable, I was never completely pleased with it. The cheap clamp never tightened down to the desk shelf securely and the whole assembly wobbled and moved when I attached my Dracast 18 inch ring light on top of it.

This extension (in conjunction with a Impact Super Clamp) completely solved my issues and replaced the Amazon product. The Impact Super Clamp attaches to my desktop shelf with a vice-like grip. This extension in turn attaches firmly to the clamp for a rock-solid solution. There is absolutely no wobble or movement when I attach the ring light to the top of the extension. I have complete confidence in this worry-free set up and would highly recommend it.

[1.02 lb] I use about 8 of these in our studio for hanging overhead camera and microphones for our Dungeons and Dragons stream on twitch. These work so well with Mafer clamps on our grid. They are exactly the right size. small enough to get out of the way when not in use, and long enough to reach people sitting at table. highly recommend for anyone that needs to hang lightweight items from a grid.

[5/8" Receiver] With an inexpensive tube cutter and 5/32 allen wrench you can easily disassemble, cut down, and reassemble this stand extension to make it shorter. It also helps to have a small file for removing any burs. You simply have to cut a uniform amount off of each tube section. Unfortunately, you will have to cut off the flared end on the smallest tube which prevents it from being over extended, yet the flared ends for all other tube sections can be left intact by simply cutting the opposite non-flared ends.

In my case I needed to mount a teleprompter approximately 17 inches plus or minus a few inches above the top of a sit stand desk, and could not find an appropriate tripod after a great deal of searching. All the tripods were either too tall, too short, were not adjustable within the range needed, or couldn't handle the weight. A combination of an 18 round board from Home Depot, a Mathews mounting plate with a 5/8 receiver, a Manfrotto 208 3/8 head mounting plate, and the modified Matthews telescopic baby stand extension did the trick. I ended up shortening the stand extension twice, as I didn't cut enough off the first time.

My decision to attach the mounting plate with bolts and washers required a slight countersink on the underside of the board to make room for them. Wood screws might have been just as secure, and would certainly have been quicker.
