Expand the overall storage capacity ioSafe's 1517 5-Bay NAS Array using the ioSafe x517 20TB 5-Bay Expansion Chassis. The x517 provides up to 20TB of additional enterprise-level storage in a 5 x 4TB configuration. Much like the 1517, the x517 is fireproof up to 1550°F for up to 30 minutes and also protects data while fully submerged in up to 10' of fresh or salt water for up to 72 hours. The x517 supports 2.50 and 3.5" SATA drives, features, hot-swappable drive bays, and connects to your 1517 using an integrated eSATA port. Included is a power cord and protection is provided by a limited 5-year hardware warranty, along with five years of ioSafe's Pro Data Recovery Service (DRS). DRS includes free in-house data recovery, up to $5000 per TB coverage for third-party forensic data recovery services, coverage for servers or other devices attached to the ioSafe x517, and advanced replacement of the ioSafe x517.

A: It is recommended to have the host NAS powered off before plugging in the Synology DX517 5-Bay Expansion Enclosure. Also, ensure the host NAS is powered off before unplugging the expansion.

[20 TB] Synology is pretty standard and setup was pretty easy. I even rethought it and changed the name of the device, the workspace and added my fully-qualified domain name. After that I removed it from the online site and added it back without issue. It claims a Max of 12TB x 2, but I used two WD 14TB Red Pro 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5 Internal NAS HDD and it had no issue recognizing the full capacity. Of course those are a marketing 14TB as opposed to a real 14TB, but still. No issues. 5

[1x eSATA] Unit is upgrade from / add-on to ds1515+ . Unit is fast and easy to use. More h/w options than I need right now but good to have for future use. Management software also has many options and flexibility 5

[1x eSATA] I've been a fan of Sinology products for years now. I usually deploy rack mount versions, but this was the right fit for the occasion. Sure, it's plastic and not metal, but it isn't like I'll be touching It again for month/years hopefully. The included Synology-Approved drives get the 5-year warranty, which is a good selling point. 5

[20 TB] Have had this for a few weeks now and I've had no issues with it. I'm using it for keeping all my photos and videos in one place and not spread out over several devices. I also want to get rid of remove cloud subscriptions and have everything in one place. I'll eventually add the other hard drives as the need arises. I'm very happy with the purchase. It's my first NAS and things were easy to set up. 5

[1x eSATA] I have 2 of these and one backs up the other remotely. Works seamlessly. I haven't even scratched the surface of what these are capable of, but I've been very happy. I made the switch from Drobo and it was much easier than I thought. And B&H delivered expeditiously. No problems there. 5
