Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Why is the longest recording time 29 min for video? Is this camera compatible with 128 gig card?

A: The clip recording time limit is 29 minutes and 59 seconds. This is due to a European tax that goes higher if the clip is 30 minutes or longer. If you actually need to record longer than 29:59, you can simply restart and keep doing that until you fill up the 128GB, the maximum card it can handle. As always we suggest extra memory cards and batteries.

Q: 2. Does anyone use the SL2 with the 100mm 2.8L Macro lens? How does it balance? Is the SL2 too small and light to use with this lens? Thank you.

A: I find the SL2 CAN be used just fine with the 100L macro. The grip on the SL2 is larger than the older SL1 and that helps. Just keep your left hand positioned under the lens to support most of the weight - works very well.

Q: 3. Does this camera can shot in RAW format?

A: Yes it does

Q: 4. Can i use the canon 35 mm f 1.4 lense with this camera?

A: It depends on the lens mount. I do not have the 35 mm lens. But I do have a Canon EFS 24 mm that is actually my favorite lens. I am also using a Canon EF 50 mm, if that helps you out. The two mounts I am using are the Canon EF and the Canon EFS.

Q: 5. Does this camera have any gamma profiles, such as S-Log?

A: No, S-Log is a Sony Profile. The Canon SL2 offers some custom profile in which you can reduce saturation when recording video. Thats what I do when I use it along side my Sony. It color grades nicely.

Q: 6. Is this a brand new SL2 2019 model with battery and camera strap included?

A: I bought this kit not that long ago. Everything is new and perfect. Also, you are dealing with a great respectable company. You will love the camera. I haven't used the larger lens yet as I am still learning but the 2 lenses that come with this kit are great!! Enjoy!!

Q: 7. Great that it has mic input. Does it have VU meters?

A: The Canon EOS Rebel SL2 DSLR Camera does have manual audio controls for microphone recording, but not VU meters.

Q: 8. What is the difference btw this SL2 model and T6i model ?

A: The Canon T6i and Sl2 are Canon’s entry level DSLR’s. Since they are for the same market, they are very, very similar. The T6i is older, has more focus points, has wider flash coverage and is cheaper. The SL2 has a higher ISO, longer battery life, is lighter, has time lapse, has better color depth, dynamic range and has Bluetooth. Physically, the SL2 is much smaller. And with the rage to go smaller with mirrorless, the SL2 is right in there being so small. Of the two, if the small size works for you, I suggest the SL2.

Q: 9. Weight of box closed

A: Not exact but the camera body is very light

Q: 10. I am interested in the SL2 but read somewhere that there is no way to mount it to a tripod which is important to me. Is this true?

A: That is not true. It has a standard Quarter-Twenty thread like all cameras have for connecting to a tripod (among other things).

I have been taking digital photos with point & shoot cameras for years, but finally decided on this DSLR. Small, light, and amazing! Very pleased with the quality of the photos just using the P(rogram) setting, but it can do so much more. The 2 lenses in the bundle compliment each other perfectly. There is so much here that a dedicated book is a must; I downloaded the ebook version of David Busch's Canon EOS Rebel SL2/200D Guide to Digital SLR Photography, which will go a long way towards helping figure things out. The LED screen is amazing, and the articulation makes it 10x more useful. Pros may have nits to pick with this 'entry-level' camera, but regular folks looking for a first DSLR won't go wrong with the SL2.

Bought this camera lens combo abut a year ago and have used it a good bit in a variety of conditions. My most recent excursion was European river cruise down the Rhine.

The camera's light weight is it's biggest attribute, but it also takes great photos. There are a couple of things that users need to be aware of. 1) the quality of RAW images is 100% up to par with what you'll see with any Canon camera, but JPEGs coming out of the camera tend to be soft. Some of that might be cleaned up with settings, but I've yet to play around with it much. 2) the low light focusing is not as good as with other Canon products. Again, it's not a huge deal breaker, just something to be aware of.

My kit consists of this camera/kit lens combo, plus the EF-S 10-18mm, the EF-S 24 mm and the EF-S 55-250mm. Everything fits in a ThinkTank Mirrorless Mover 30i bag and is super easy to travel with.

An entry-level DSLR that is, nevertheless, highly capable for basic photography. Very light and easy to handle. Excellent touch screen allows easy access to main controls and menus. 9-point autofocus is somewhat primitive, but adequate for what the camera is intended to do. The big selling point for me was the new 24 MP sensor, which is very nearly ISO-less. This gives the camera excellent dynamic range. I am using this for astrophotography, with excellent results.

I primarily shoot portraits and events. I just shot 500 images at a conference. Things I really like: 1. The new menu system is very easy to use and allows quick changes to metering mode, ISO, and white balance. 2. The flip screen is great for composing and the dual pixel touch screen auto focus allows fast and accurate focusing. 3. It is an excellent high performing mirrorless alternative for a much lower price. 4. It has one more stop of low light performance than the SL1. I took some very usable ISO 6400 shots. To me, it is like a 2/3 size Canon 80D. I think it is the sweet spot in performance and price in the Canon APS-C line up.

For years I have used a Canon Rebel XT for astrophotography, I finally decided it was time to modernize, and I'm very happy I did. Best points for me:

-The tilt-able view screen and Live View mode is a real back-saver: no more contortions to see through the view finder

-Long exposure noise reduction does dark frame capture and subtraction

-Controls are similar enough in layout that by the end of the first night I was not fumbling to find things in the dark

-The only downside is the size of the images means processing takes longer :-)

I've uploaded an image that combines the best 8 (of 16) 90s exposures of M51 the Whirlpool Galaxy. ISO 1600. Noise reduction on. cropped (not resized) to 1920x1080 and converted to png for use as wallpaper.

I haven't seen any reviews that mention using this camera as I do, which was the reason I chose it. On the street, with the 24mm lens mounted, I fold in the LCD screen so it faces the camera body and shorten the neckstrap so the camera rests against my sternum. Then in live view, for the best autofocus, I trigger the shutter with the bluetooth remote, which can be in my pants pocket. See it, shoot it.

I bought my 20D about 13 years ago. It has, and still does, give me great service. I thought it was time for a new one. This time I wanted a small, lightweight camera with all the bells and whistles. The SL2 fits the bill. I have the kit lens. It is very sharp and goes well with the small SL2 body. I also have numerous other Canon lenses that I am sure will complement the SL2 operation. With a 400+ page user manual and on-line reviews that take almost an hour, I'm sure it will take me a while to get comfortable with everything my new camera has to offer. Not worried though. I have owned several other Canon cameras, film and digital. All worked as advertised. I'm sure the SL2 will perform. So far I have taken several hundred pictures. All were great. Movies also looked very good. Going to a track meet today to see how well it captures quickly moving objects. By the way, B & H has always given me excellent service. It is also highly recommended.
