The small, brown DPA 4066 Omnidirectional Headset Microphone Mini Jackfrom DPA 4066 Omnidirectional Headset Microphone Mini Jackis designed for theater and broadcast applications. The previous Legacy 4066 omnidirectional headset mic is known for working across a wide dynamic range as well as exhibiting low distortion across all SPLs. However, the Core 4066 microphone delivers a 14 dB increase in both THD (total harmonic distortion) and dynamic range, which improves clarity and openness more than the Legacy model.

The Core 4066 features a double vent protection system that works in tandem with a drop stopper and water-resistant materials in the mic, which help prevent damage from humidity. High- and soft-boost grids, along with five foam windscreens, are included.

Q: 1. I have this cable and plugged it into my Sony A74 camera, then attached the Tentacle Sync E Mk2 unit that I used earlier as a slave to accept the master audio timecode signal from my Sound Devices Mix Pre 3 II external audio recorder. So now the Tentacle Sync E Mk2 unit is sending timecode to the camera's left channel. Also I attached a Deity V-Mic D3 Pro to send audio to the camera's right channel and then I recorded a video clip. When I play back the clip on my headphones, I hear audio from both channels, so I'm hearing the loud whir from the timecode signal on the left channel at the same time as the person's voice on the right channel. I would like to find a solution that will allow me to monitor the video/audio take, hearing audio that is synced with the video clip, when I review by playing back the clip in camera. With the Sound Devices Mix Pre 3 II recorder, that high quality .WAV file will be synced later in post. I'm thinking that I would need a pair of headphones with a disabled left channel, so only the right channel is allowed to playback while I review the camera take on set. Can anyone recommend headphones that one can switch off the left channel, or have another solution that will allow a review of the synced audio/video clip on set? Thank you.

A: As you note, the Tentacle Sync 3.5mm Mini-Jack Microphone Y-Cable (12") is sending timecode as audio to the left channel of the camera's audio track. In this case, although rudimentary, the most simple solution would be to only monitor with one side of the headphones, physically removing the side emitting timecode from your ear. There are no suggestions for headphones that allow for disabling audio of one side or the other.

Q: 2. Will this work with the Sony UTX-B2?

A: Yes, we use 2 of these on our UTX-B2 transmitters after our talent destroyed the original mics that came with them.

Q: 3. Is this mic compatible with a UTX-B1 transmitter? And what about the connector?

A: Hi A shopper, Yes the mic and transmitter are compatible and the connector will work. Regards, -Erin

Q: 4. is this mic compatible with the airline series?

A: Yes it is. The Samson Airline series accepts a TA3F connector.

Q: 5. Does the Samson LM5 Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone with Samson 3-Pin Connector for Samson Bodypack Transmitters come as shown.....tie clip and wind foam with the mic?

A: Yes. But the lav clip could have been made by Fisher Price. It was a huge clip that didn't hold the mic very well. The mic itself was pretty muddy. I went ahead and upgraded to a whole new Wireless Lav system as this replacement mic was just $45 down the drain.

Q: 6. Is the Sony SMC9-4P Connector the same, exactly, as the female 4-pin HIROSE connector? So can I use this Sony ECM44BC lavalier with an Audio Technica ATW-210a wireless transmitter ?

A: The Sony ECM44BC and SMC9-4P are not compatible with Audio Technica transmitters. Sony lavaliers, unless hardwired with an XLR, Sony Lavalier s will be compatible with Sony wireless systems only.

Q: 7. Is there a better lapel clip that will work with this mic as the supplied clip is next to useless as it does not offer any way to secure the mic cable and therefore I constantly get cable rubbing noise from presenters moving on stage.Even the cheaper (and very good ) Sony UWP-D11 kit comes with a decent lapel clip that allows you to better secure the mic cable?

A: YES

Q: 8. Will this microphone work with a Sony DWT-B01 bodypack transmitter? Looking to replace an ECM-77BC mic, which is no longer available.

A: Yes, SOECM44BC is compatible with the SODWTB01N30A

Q: 9. Will it work with the Sony WRT 820a?

A: Yes, this mic will work with WRT 820a series transmitters.

Q: 10. Is there an extension cable for this microphone?

A: Extension cables are not available for the Sony ECM-44BMP as it is designed to plug straight into a wireless belt pack, and a relatively short cable would work best. For longer cable runs, consider the ECM-44B (B&H# SOECM44B) with a XLR connector. XLR cables can be run typically up-to 200' without without signal degradation.

[Brown] Used in a demanding commercial news operation. Great sound quality for a microphone in this price range.

[Plug-In Power] I wish there were a way to repair these when they break, because they inevitably break! But at least they’re affordable to replace.

[Omnidirectional] Just what we needed to repair microphones in our studio. Price could be better, but, if you want quality, you have to pay for it. Thanks B&H Photo.

[Omnidirectional] I bought this as a replacement for my Sony wireless system. Nice, small and clips on nicely. Good value.

[Brown] These mics are some of the most natural sounding microphones I've heard. They have a super flat frequency response - the flattest of any consumer or professional mic I've seen, except for measuring microphones. The tiny diameter of the mic (about 1/4 in) makes for excellent off-axis high end response. It's difficult to hear much difference in sound quality, whether you're on axis, or 90 deg off axis to the mic. This should make them great for small venues up close with no proximity effect, or for large auditoriums at further distances to the sound source. Of-course, the downside is the relatively high noise level - 23 dBA. I've played around with these mics in a living room environment and a smaller bedroom set up as a sound room, recording music from loudspeakers. So far, I've not noticed the noise level, or at least it hasn't become apparent above the room noise, which was relatively quiet. Recording music from my ESS Hiel Tower loudspeakers equalized for flat response over the range of my one octave analyser (31.5 Hz - 16 KHz), they sounded absolutely phenomenal. Deep, rich, clean bass up through the smooth highs, these mics are great. I look forward to recording some live music with them.

[Omnidirectional] This mic has been on the market for years. Reason: It gets the job done at a reasonable price. Sure, you can spend more, but why would you? I've been using these mics for many years in conjunction with my Sony wireless units and cannot recommend them highly enough! Dependable, trouble-free performance every time ...
