The Tamron Lens Hood 18-400mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLDhas a flower-petal design to coincide with the focal length of the lens, so it does not cause any vignetting on the corners of the image when the lens is at its wider focal lengths. Lens flare is also prevented when the lens hood blocks stray light from entering the lens, and it protects the lens from impact in case the lens is dropped. Additionally, the lens hood can be used as a spare or as a replacement for the hood that originally came with the lens.

[Bayonet] I needed this because I dropped my camera and the original hood cracked when it broke the fall. Luckily there was no damage to the lens so I wanted an original replacement which this is. 5

[Bayonet] I purchased this for a used Tamron 18-400 lens that did not have a hood. I have another one of these lenses that has a hood that conveniently can be turned around and stored right on the lens, even with a protective UV filter installed. This one is exactly the same as the original. I bought another generic hood, and it had to be stored separately. This is definitely the way to go and thus well worth the extra money. 5
