Create a soft 180° light source ideal for overhead lighting with the small Chimera Pancake Lantern Small Half Gridless Skirtfrom Chimera. This model measures 21" in diameter with a depth of 12" and has a flat top that makes it easy to place near a ceiling. Also, this model has a half-stop, gridless diffusion cloth and comes with a skirt that features adjustable zippers and touch-tab fasteners, so it can be rolled up for control over the light's spread. This lantern is designed for fixtures with wide beam angles or bare-bulb lights, and it has a heat-resistant construction that permits the use of lights up to 400W. Additionally, it comes with a zippered storage sack and works with a range of separately available speed rings for attaching to your lights.

A: I think it would work but the fresnel beam would only cover 50% of the pancake. A bare bulb works better. I have a bi-color LED strip wrapped around a tube.

A: You can still use the Chimera Triolet Flood Light with Octaplus Speed Ring (120 VAC), B&H # CHT2POP in 4 rod points only with this Lantern.

Q: 5. Is there an LED engine that I can use inside of these lights?

A: Lite tile by lite gear will work or any type of flexible led. You will strap the led to a ring of your choice

A: No, that light is not designed to be used with a softbox.

Q: 8. can I use this with my profoto lights? will my speed rings work with this lantern soft box?

A: I used this with the profoto b2 light and it worked really well. The light needs to be pretty lightweight or else you'd need a really strong stand/arm/counterweight. Would be better with an exposed tube like the profoto pro lights but I was still very happy. I used it directly overhead a group of people at a table and also used it close to individuals for portraits.

Q: 9. can i use this with 500 watts bare bulbs in standard socket?

A: Yes, you can. You will probably need to adapt to a standard medium base bulb, as the pancakes are mogul based. Adapter is easy to find an inexpensive.

A: The Chimera Pancake Lantern Softbox - Large - 48" (120cm) Diameter does not have a specific angle. It is a lantern softbox. It projects the light almost 180 degrees.

[400 W] I'm very happy with this Chimera lantern. It's a wonderful tool to create a soft lit area, a beautiful key light or add a nice eye light outside, either with a joker bug or a triolet. The skirt is perfect to control the light spilling around the set, as you can adjust four sides independently. Roll it up to the desired effect. Setting up is pretty easy, and it all packs into a small soft bag. Another fabulous product by Chimera. 5

[400 W] This is great. Extends well and easy to setup. Makes the lc-160 RGBWW a killer soft light to have. It goes down as far as it can go without adding a middle support beam and also a heavier system. But maybe they could look into that. 5

[400 W] This is a great overhead base light. Great for indoor scenes with multiple talent. The skirt can be used in multiple ways. 5

[400 W] I have used this on several small sets and have found it to be a great tool. I have put 213 globes into it and was impressed by it's output. Like all the pancakes it has the skirt and is very adjustable. The only downside is it is a bit tough to put together the first time. 5

[400 W] Overall I really love this, but two things... firstly I saw in another review that they were glad they went with the larger lantern because is barely reaches 4'. I think the 4' is diagonal, not long edge, so it is not really 4' and secondly, you get the impression that it fits any speed ring, and B & H lists several. But it did not fit any that I already had, and one was a speed ring recommended by B & H. You absolutely need to use the Chimera speed ring from Chimera with the spring loaded tabs. Most of the generic ones the holes are too small for the rods. 5

[400 W] This one of those products you wish you bought years ago. I hang this on a boom. This is a very nice soft light. The skirt is great for adjusting falloff. 5

[400 W] This lantern is a perfect source to sneak in overhead via boom arm. Love its low profile and even spread. I sometimes diffuse it even more, but its great just like it is. 5

[400 W] Great softbox, didn't really expect anything less coming from chimera. It takes little time to build, well-made, perfect overhead light. Was a little bigger than I imagined even though I had the dimensions, but it's perfect for getting a large soft source. 5
