The Meade 16MP Monochrome Deep Sky Imager IV 2"is a high-resolution digital imaging system that allows you to capture monochrome images by itself, or attach single or stacked astronomical filters for custom-colored images through a 2" focuser, visual back, or other accessories like Barlows or diagonals. M42x0.75 threads allow it to be mounted on a variety of imaging accessories. Images are captured using a 4/3" 16MP imaging sensor and sent directly to your Windows or Mac computer running the included SkyCapture imaging software via the fast USB 3.0 connection. It is also backward compatible with USB 2.0, but download speeds will be slower. The fast download speed of USB 3.0 allows you to gather more images in less time, which is critical if the weather and atmospheric conditions are fluctuating and you have limited time for imaging. Whether you're looking at the Moon, Mars, or the rings of Saturn, the monochrome DSI-IV takes your view of the sky and makes it available for everyone to see.

Meade recommends that you use a motorized mount for capturing clear and steady images. Out of the box it is compatible with larger 2" focusers to pass the maximum amount of light for capturing dim subjects, and to ensure full coverage of the large sensor and avoid vignetting. For use in Cassegrain-style scopes, an M42 thread allows it to be attached directly onto the visual back. The included software for Windows and Mac lets you control the camera, snap pictures or create a movie file, and export them. An integrated stacking program in SkyCapture lets you automatically filter the best images and stack them to create the perfect composite celestial picture.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this camera compatible with any/most Celestron telescopes. I have a Skywatcher 105 mm, is this a good investment for me?

A: Without knowing your experience its hard to give you a simple answer. Your scope is too small for great planetary images, you need more aperture (8 +) and a longer prime focal length (2000mm +). This camera will function as if you were using a 8mm eyepiece, the detail that you can see can be captured ith this camera.Jupiter and some bands, Saturn and its rings. Mars will be too small. This camera will work very well on the moon. It's not a simple camera like a dslr, it takes videos of your subject (1000-2000), you have do the image processing in Registax software. If your familiar with this software this camera might be for you. Registax is a very powerful software for weeding out bad video frames, stacking them then enhancing the image. After this is done, you still have to bring the final image into Photoshop and continue to process it. If you have these skills, its a wonderful camera. If you can't be bothered to invest the time and effort to learn and experience it will not be a good investment. This product is no good for stars, clusters, nebula, or galaxies. It also requires that your scope is properly polar aligned and your tracking fairly accurate.

Q: 2. Where is this the neximage 5 solar imager made ?

A: The country of origin for this item is the country of China.

Q: 3. Is the button an on/off switch or does it need to be continuously depressed to power on?

A: It needs to be continuously pressed.

Q: 4. Is it waterproof?

A: No. I do not believe it to be waterproof. Nothing on the box or packaging indicated that is waterproof or water resistant. But still a great laser pointer.

Q: 5. ? will it work good with nexstar 4se

A: If by work you mean render good imagery -yes. It does not however, synch with the field of view through the scope. I expected a 1:1 parity but this is not even close. Users expect to get a photo of what they saw through the lens. They don't get that.

Q: 6. Does the laser stay bright or Does it dim a short time after it is turned on or stay at fully power?

A: Unfortunately, it dims. I got this one hoping it would not, unlike the previous ones I got, but was disappointed.

Q: 7. is the beam suitable for soley pointing out stars?

A: Yes, it is nice and bright and seems to have very long range. It would be suitable for pointing at objects in the sky.

Q: 8. Will the software work for Windows 10?

A: Yes, the software for the Celestron NexImage 5 Solar System Imager (5MP) is compatible with Windows 10.

Q: 9. Would like to use this on a CPC-1100. What is the video frame-rate for this camera? I plan to use it for live video feed to a Jumbo-tron at a large stadium event. Will this camera do the job?

A: 6.23 to 52.37 at the lowest resolution, 0.71 to 5.99 at the highest resolution

Q: 10. Has anyone found out a good way to keep the laser point working? Works some times but not all the time.

A: Check the battery and clean all the contacts regularly with a pencil eraser.

[350-1050nm] I love it. It is more than I had expected it to be for the price and it works very well. I like the software that comes with it and as a new recruit to astrophotograpy, I should be able to learn a lot by using this camera and not outgrow it for some time to come.

[5.66 lb] I absolutely love this thing. I used to have to bring out my Mac, with Starry night, tethered with a coupe of USB cables to utilize the software and scope. It was kind of a pain and I hated bringing my computer out into the elements. Now it's as easy as pointing my phone and go. So simple and nice. I would definitely recommend this unit.

[350-1050nm] Nice camera for the price. Images are sharp and clear. However, there is a learning curve for using the software that comes with it. Lots of "how to" You Tube videos to assist you how it works.
