The Telefunken M62 FET Condenser Microphone Hypercardioidis a small-diaphragm hypercardioid FET condenser microphone designed to deliver fast transient response and accurate, yet musical frequency reproduction for musicians and recording engineers in home, project, and commercial studios. The M60 FET body features a custom-wound transformer, an active FET transistor, and a Class-A discrete amplifier. The included TK62 capsule utilizes a 6-micron, gold-sputtered membrane and exhibits a hypercardioid polar pattern.

The M62's 130 dB maximum SPL, 20 Hz to 31.5 kHz frequency response, low self-noise, and fast transient response make it ideal for critical capture of a wide variety of instruments and room ambience. The supplied shockmount isolates the microphone from vibrations that would otherwise be transferred through the mic stand. A windscreen is included for reduction of noise from gusts of air. The M62 includes an XLR cable and a zipper carrying case.

The M62 package includes one M60 amplifier paired with a TK62 hypercardioid capsule, which features a 6-micron gold-sputtered membrane measuring 15mm in diameter. It offers surprisingly full low end and a quick, accurate transient response. The TK62 is flat in response from 150 Hz to 3 kHz with a dip at 6 kHz and a smooth, airy presence peak at 8 kHz. This tightened polar pattern is great for use on cymbals, percussion, and as a stereo pair for live performance recording.

The M62's incredibly quick transient response captures nuances and subtleties with impressive precision and clarity. This results in an extremely detailed sonic image with definition and presence, perfectly suited for the complex character of stringed instruments and percussive sources.

Utilizing a proprietary circuit topology, this re-interpretation of the classic FET mic amplifier produces exceptional transient response and SPL handling capabilities. Carefully selected and tested components are hand-plugged into gold-plated circuit board traces to provide an ultra-clean true Class-A discrete amplifier with a frequency response of ±2 dB from 20 Hz to 50 kHz. The output is matched with a custom American-made transformer that offers an especially low self-noise and a typical THD+N of 0.015% or better, making it ideal for critical recording applications.

The M60 FET amplifier body is finished in a durable, lightly textured black powder coat adorned with the historic TELEFUNKEN diamond badge. The microphone's XLR connector shell complements the look with a matte black nickel-plated finish engraved with the model and serial number. The TK62 capsule features a bright nickel-plated enclosure with a fine gold mesh pattern.

The M62 system ships complete with one SGMC-5R XLR cable with a right-angle female connector, an M 761 elastic shockmount, and a foam windscreen, all packed in a ZC61 zipper carrying case.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Are these capsules interchangeable with Audix's micro series of microphones?

A: Hi Tyrone, The capsules on the Audix SCX1 mics are a different diameter to the Audix Micro series so are not interchangeable. The Audix Micro series does have field replaceable capsules in cardioid, hyper-cardioid and omni versions.

Q: 2. Is it battery powered or do you need phantom power?

A: The Telefunken M80 does not require battery power or phantom power.

Q: 3. Where can I get a deadcat that fits this microphone?

A: You can use the Auray Professional Windshield (B&H # AUWSS2018) for direct compatibility with the Synco D1 shotgun mic.

Q: 4. Hello, what is the real color? In the first photo is a different pink that in the last one.. thanks!

A: I apologize for the confusion. The Telefunken M80 pink body with pink grille would look like the model in the 4th picture.

Q: 5. How is the noise compared to a boom mic?

A: A mic like the AT4053b would be recommended for indoor dialog capture. The pickup pattern is wider than a traditional shotgun, however for indoor were there are many reflective surfaces, this is a benefit as compared to a more directional mic.

Q: 6. Does it require phantom power?

A: Yes. The Audio-Technica AT4053b Hypercardioid Condenser Microphone BH #AUAT4053B requires 48V phantom power.

Q: 7. Does it need require phantom power?

A: Yes. The Audio-Technica AT4053b Hypercardioid Condenser Microphone BH #AUAT4053B requires phantom power. Operating Voltage: 48 V Operating Current Consumption 4.8 mA

Q: 8. IS this mic good for live sound applications? Specifically drum over heads? Or would pencil condensers be a better option?

A: Yes, the Avantone Pro CK-6+ Large Capsule Cardioid FET Condenser Microphone is a very good microphone for recording drum overheads. I has a maximum sound pressure level rating of 136 dB. Small diaphragm condenser microphones (pencil style mics) with similar specs are also suitable. Neither style is better than the other. It's a matter of personal preference, as well as whether you would want to be able to use the same mic for other applications, which many people often do. The CK-6+ is a versatile mic that can be used for numerous recording applications.

Q: 9. Self noise of this mic, acording to Telefunken is 5db- This is an early model?

A: The Telefunken M60 was first announced in late 2014, and then released in the early months of 2015. The self noise is equal to or less then 5dBA.

Q: 10. Hope my letter finds you well! I would like to purchase the M60 Master Set by Telefunken with the 3 different capsules, (especially need the TK61) but I am also looking for something what can be attached to the end of the microfons looks like a translucent sphere but have no idea whats that for and how do you call that.. Have a picture with it but can’t attach to this mail. Can you please help me. Appreciate your time!

A: Hello. These are great mics, an excellent choice for recording in general. As for the sphere you're referring to, we're not sure as to what item you mean. They sound like they could be types of windscreens, in which case we have items like these available BH #THPF842S. If you have more specific information regarding the sphere, please give us a chat or call at 800-606-6969 and we can attempt to assist you.

[Mono] I couldn't be happier with this product. Telefunken truly hit the mark in delivering something that brings professional grade quality to us laypeople. Yes. $1,000 is still a lot of money for a microphone, especially for me, but this TF-11 was worth it, even if it means top ramen for the next couple of months. Thanks for making this happen Telefunken. B&H you're ok too.

[Hypercardioid] I've been using cheaper overhead mics for my video production company for years . . . generally, the audio was good, but never crisp . . . this mic has changed everything! Professional, tight, clear microphone. This is a pro mic and at a great price.

[Black] I bought the new Tascam DR-60DmkII 4-Channel Portable Recorder as a secondary device to record audio and tried my existing mic's with this unit. The problem was that both my other 2 mics did not pick up well without a lot of ambient noise too and definitely didn't do well in a echoey type room setting. Now I do have a couple of wireless mic's also but sometimes those don't fit the bill. I needed a mic, on a boom pole & stand that picked up good interviews that didn't have that echoey tone to it and also picked up the voice loud * clear enough so when I imported it into FCPX I had an audio track I could deal with and edit. After watching some video's of this mic and hearing some online samples, I thought I'd try this even though it was very pricey for mainly one purpose. Once it arrived I was really anxious to test it and after about an hour of testing, adjusting levels, bringing samples into FCPS & so on, I was very pleased. This is one thing I won't have to worry about anymore. So with the the Tascam recorder & this mic, and the extra wind screen, I got about what....$$into this solution. But audio is so important I felt relieved I had solved the problem. I also bought the Windtech 1200 Series - 3/4 Inside Diameter - Black Windscreen (B&H # WI1200B) to put on this mic because it's a little bulkier and helps block echo sound. The wind screen that comes with the mic is a little small & thinner. One more thing about this. I have the new Sony a7s, I will be hooking this camera up to the new Atomos Shogun monitor/recorder and using this mic with that unit, plugged right into the Shogun's XLR inputs for close personal interview type work.

[Hypercardioid] Don't have enough money to buy a Schoeps? Obviously that's the Gold Standard, but the AT does an admirable job and it fit our budget a little better.
