Presented in a purple body with a black grille, the Telefunken M80 Custom Handheld Supercardioid Dynamic Microphone delivers the sonic essence of a condenser in a rugged dynamic design. It features a wide 50 Hz to 18 kHz frequency response and high maximum SPL of 135 dB, making it equally suitable for voice, instruments, or drums onstage and in the studio. The M80 is designed to be an alternative to the midrange-laden character of most dynamic vocal microphones.

The M80's low-mass capsule and super-thin capsule membrane allow a wider dynamic range from a live vocal, providing an intimate feel that's typically reserved for studio condenser microphones. The head and capsule assembly is designed to reduce proximity effect and add low-end clarity while still providing present bass. The M80 also features an American-made, custom-wound, impedance-matching transformer. It ships with a mic clip and leather storage bag.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How does this compare with the 8060 for use as an on-camera mic?

A: The Sennheiser MKH 50 P48 Microphone and the Sennheiser MKH 8060 Short Shotgun Microphone are both very good mics. The MKH 8060 has frequency response range of 50 Hz to 25 kHz and a maximum sound pressure level rating of 149 dB while the MKH 50 has a frequency response range of 40 Hz to 20 kHz and maximum SPL rating of 134 dB. The MKH 50 has a built-in -10 dB pad which allows for more headroom while increasing the maximum SPL rating to 142 dB, and it also has a low frequency roll-off switch to minimize rumble and noise. The MKH 8060 has no switches or controls. The equivalent noise level is similar for both mics, at 11 dB (A-weighted) for the MKH 8060 and 12 dB (A weighted) for the MKH 50. The MKH 50 is a shorter mic at 0.98 x 5.91" while the MKH 8060 measures 0.75 x 7.01". The MKH 50 has a supercardioid pickup pattern while the MKH 8060 has supercardioid pattern at low to midrange frequencies and transitions to lobar in higher frequencies. The MKH 50 is designed for use as a spot mic, usually mounted on a boom for overhead applications to focus on one person to record dialog. It is often used for studio applications. The MKH 8060 is better suited for mounting on a camera and it can be used for a wider range of applications such as films, documentaries, and outdoor shooting. The MKH 8060 is also moisture-resistant.

[1.465 lb] This mic is literally the best mic I have EVER used on stage. It has the ability to make bad PA systems and bad speakers sound amazing. This mic is a MUST have if you sing live. This mix has also been amazing in the studio when I mic snare drums. The frequency response is superior to any other mic I've used.

[1.465 lb] Excellent mic, works as advertised, and looks like the mic, on which, God said, Fiat Lux!

[10.2 x 3.2 x 3"] removes the problem of people handling the microphone incorrectly. Makes an amateur sound like a pro with no handling noise. Beginners will often cup the mic or hold it by its head giving a hollow sound. This microphone eliminates that problem.

[1.465 lb] I've used the SM58 for years and decided it was time for an upgrade after doing a show where my vocals just didn't cut through. The clarity of the M80 is far superior to the SM58 and it feels like it is built rock solid. I'm still getting used to the nuances of this mic during live performances, but haven't had any issues with the change. I've read lots of reviews that these are great for recording, etc but I haven't used it for that so I cannot comment.
