Presented in a green body with a black grille, the Telefunken M81 Supercardioid Dynamic Microphone Green Blackdelivers the sonic essence of a condenser in a rugged dynamic design. It features a wide 50 Hz to 18 kHz frequency response and high maximum SPL of 135 dB, making it equally suitable for voice, instruments, or drums onstage and in the studio. Its tonal character is tuned to soften bright or thin sources and yield a stronger emphasis on midrange clarity.

The M81's head and capsule assembly is designed to reduce proximity effect while still providing present bass. Its supercardioid polar pattern provides enhanced off-axis rejection and high immunity to feedback. The M81 also features a custom-wound Telefunken T80 transformer. Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. is there a recommended pistol grip for shooting situations where a boompole is not feasible? for the mkh50

A: The Auray Universal Microphone Pistol Grip (BH #AUGRIP) is a recommended handheld pistol grip for adapting to the shock mount and microphone in the Sennheiser MKH 50 Supercardioid Microphone Kit.

Q: 2. Is it possible to connect this via XLR? My interface uses the one C-port I have for outgoing sound + other inputs.

A: The Deity Microphones VO-7U Dynamic Supercardioid USB Streamer Microphone Kit with Desktop Tripod (Black) does not have an XLR connector.

Q: 3. Would this be appropriate for close-up field recordings of things like specific sounds of nature & experimental percussion/vocalizations?

A: This is an amazing microphne with a very tight pickup pattern. It will sound great great for that use.

Q: 4. What is the maximum suggested distance to use this mic indoors when lavs and handhelds aren't an option?

A: The operating distance for the Sennheiser MKH 50 P48 Microphone will vary depending on the environment, the ambient sounds in the background, as well as the number of people you will be recording and the volume of their voices. Under optimal conditions in a quiet indoor environment without any background noise, the MKH 50 can pick up sounds from around 6 feet to up to approximately 10 feet away. The best thing to do is to monitor through headphones and do some test recordings while you are setting up the mic to make sure the audio is clear.

Q: 5. Does this use a regular 3 pin XLR connector? (understand that it needs phantom power)

Q: 9. How long is the cable?

A: The attached cable on the MX184 microphone is approximately 4-feet long.

Q: 10. What will provide some protection for the mic from damage (only need for use indoors) better than the foam windscreen?

A: The only accessories made to actually mitigate damage to the MKH 50 P48 Microphone would be a case for safe storage and transport. In general, wind protection such as foam is not meant to protect against damage, only excessive wind noise and should not be misconstrued for physical protection. While it's true the foam can provide some slight protection against shock, you should still treat the microphone with the same level of care as you would with out any wind protection.
