Simplifying film development, CineStill DF96 Monobath for B&W Film (1L)from CineStill DF96 Monobath for B&W Film (1L)is a monobath, self-completing chemistry for use with nearly all black & white film types. Rather than traditional multi-bath processes, with separate developer and fixer chemistries, DF96 is an all-in-one, single-step solution to fully process film in approximately three minutes. DF96 also requires no dilution and is reusable for developing at least 16 rolls of film per liter of chemistry.

As a developer, DF96 is akin to D96 developer and yields a smooth grain structure and tonal curve. Different from D96, though, DF96 requires no subsequent stop bath or fixer; its own fixing capabilities render fully archival results and longer overall processing times will not affect development. Beyond the ease of a single-bath design, DF96 is also meant to be used at room temperature (70-80°F) with development times ranging from six to three minutes for normal results with most films. Push and pull development is possible by adjusting the temperature. Additionally, tabular grain films (such as T-Max and Delta) are also supported, however require twice-as-long processing in order to remove the film's stain during fixing.

This 1L of liquid monobath working solution and has a shelf life of approximately one year.

Q: 1. developing 3 rolls at the same time , using (Paterson Multi-Reel 3 Developing Tank) it counts as 3 rolls? so by the next time developing i add (15+15+15) seconds developing time when reusing the chemical ???

A: Yes, using the Paterson Multi-Reel 3 Developing Tank with 3 reels would count as developing 3 rolls with this chemistry.

Q: 2. Does this work on X-ray film?

A: CineStill Film does not list x-ray film as compatible. Chances are it can work but it would take experimenting on the process times. This is a link to the films they have tested and the developing times, https://bit.ly/3icoIN7 .

Q: 3. Is there any way I can split up my DF96 powder so that I can just mix up 300ml of liquid (I use a lab box so I only need 300ml at a time)? My developing tank is small so it would make more sense, than mixing up 1L at a time when I am only going to develop a few rolls.

A: I contacted the manufacturer concerning your inquiry about the CineStill Film DF96 Monobath for Black & White Film (Powder, to Make 1L). According to CineStill, they state they do not recommend dividing up the powder concentrates. Because there is a mixture of several powdered chemical components in these concentrates, each with their own grain size and weight, it's practically impossible to ensure that the chemical concentrations of all components will be accurate if divided by weight or volume, which could lead to uneven development. CineStill always instruct users to mix up the full 1000mL and re-use for up to 16 rolls within two months. Concerning your use of a Lab-Box, CineStill states you should mix up the full 1000mL volume using all of the powder concentrate, pour 300mL from the chemical storage bottle into their Lab-Box, and then pour back into the chemical storage bottle, making a tally mark to indicate the number of rolls processed in the chemistry until they reach 16 or until the mixed chemistry is 2 months old.

Q: 4. Can it develop ILFord hp5? And also how many rolls it develops per pack?

A: Yes, it is enough to process about 15 rolls.

Q: 5. Do you need to use kodak photo flo after using?

A: No. A end-user will only want to use photo flo when trying to to minimize water marks or streaks during film development. But if you wash thorough a end-user does don't have to.

Q: 6. Can a partial packet, ie 1/2, be mixed for low volume needs? If so, will the remaining powder remain viable as long as it is stored properly?

A: The full package must be used to make a working solution.

Q: 7. If i want to develop 2 rolls of film at the same time, it will be the same time developing as 1 roll?

A: Yes, development time is the same for 1 or 2 rolls.

Q: 8. Is the monobath for developing prints?

A: No, this chemistry is for use with film.

Q: 9. is this safe/approved for checked in luggage on air flights?

A: Whether this is safe for checked luggage on a flight would depend on the airline you're using. It would be best to check with that airline for their specific regulations.

Q: 10. Is it truly odor free? Will it stain a typical bathroom sink?

A: While this product is odor-free, it should not be disposed down a sink as it would require disposal through a licensed facility. Please see the link for more information: http://bit.ly/32anR5i

[Liquid] I got this kit to try out developing film at home as it seemed easy for a first timer. The kit is easy to use has simple directions to follow and was well within my budget compared to other developer kits.

[Liquid] I recently used this monobath to process a couple of rolls of expired Fuji Neopan Acros 100 (120). It was simple, quick and effective. I had to extend the recommended development time for a few minutes to fully fix the film, but the total time at 70 deg. was still only 8 minutes. Interestingly, the film can't be overdeveloped; it simply stops developing and begins fixing. So the total time in the tank is not critical as long as the development stage has completed. Hard to make a mistake!

[2.6 lb] I developed my first roll of film when I was 13 (1963). Became darkroom guy for a commercial studio, developed all b&w and color film, transparencies while ogling their Hasselblads. I am now 73, own a retro Hassie and just developed my first b&w 120 roll with Cine Mono. Wow! I love it. Easy, clean, no grain. Looking forward to exploring color chemistry.

[2.6 lb] Super simple. Because it’s a monobath, it’s basically impossible to mess up. I develop all my own film now!

[2.6 lb] Having done no film development of my own since back in 1967, I have nothing at the present to compare CineStill DF96 Monobath to. But I can say that now after using it to develop three batches of 4x5 bw sheets (four per batch) in a little Stearman SP-445 tank, I am quite pleased. This third batch came out wonderfully. Agitating continually for about five minutes with the solution at about 73 degrees F, and then a ten-minute post wash with a couple drops of flo was all it required. The negatives came out beautifully. The two earlier batches were learning events, but even they were passably good. I'll soon buy another supply. Simple and effective. I should soon try a multi-step process, with Kodak developer and fixer, but for now, I'll keep on learning with the monobath first. Here are the three most recently developed shots passed through LrC and SilverEfex. The fourth was meh, but that was my fault, not CineStills!

[Liquid] At first I was skeptical of an “all in one” developer, but when I developed my film it came out perfect! That combined with the ease of use makes it an easy and my #1 choice for developing my black and white film :)

[Liquid] First time developing film, went with this Monobath for b/w and results were amazing. I have so far done roll of 35mm Kentmere 400 and one roll of AcrosII 120, both yielded amazing results.

Did both at 80F for three minutes with constant agitation, simple as that.

Highly recommend for bw developing, can't go wrong at all.
