With a magnification–objective lens configuration favored by professionals all over the world, the gray Hawke Sport Optics 10x42 Frontier ED X Binoculars Graydeliver bright high-contrast images with true-to-life color and crisp clarity even when observing from long distances.

These binoculars feature extra-low-dispersion (ED) glass with phase-correcting and dielectric coatings on the BAK4 prisms. Anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics round out the optical features, and when combined with the glass and prism systems produce bright and clear high-contrast images with accurate colors and enhanced clarity without distortion or fringing. The wide apparent angle of view presents an immersive observational experience to complement the impressive optical performance, while helping to minimize the distracting hand shake that is common when holding high-power optics such as these.

A fast-focusing mechanism runs through the full focal range in just 1.5 turns of the large center focusing knob, making finding subjects fast and tracking moving targets easy. Designed to stand up to a life lived outdoors, the optical tubes are nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to give them a waterproof rating of IPX7 and make them fogproof even when moving through extreme temperature variations. The chassis is made from a magnesium alloy to make it lightweight and corrosion resistant. Hawke includes tethered front and rear lens caps to add an additional layer of protection in the field, with the ability to quickly react to glassing opportunities without fear of losing the caps.

Q: 6. Is a case included in the box with the binoculars?

A: Yes, a nice case is included.

Q: 7. Are these made in China?

A: Yes its made in China. Overall I am very happy with the binoculars. Brought it on African safari last month and really enjoyed using it to observe big 5 from dawn to night. I also bought a Vankey cellphone adapter mount for iPhone and used it to take mostly videos at the Cape of Good Hope and safaris. The image quality for videos is not professional quality but acceptable even on the big screen. The color saturation and clarity are not as good as the camcorder. Very slight chromatic aberration may be seen at the edges but not serious. Not sure if the German glass has same issue. I am not happy that the binoculars does not have a 1/4 inch adapter for camera tripod. Zeiss sells their version of adapter for over $200 which is ridiculously expensive. Why cant they tap a hole and put a rubber cap during manufacturing? I fabricated my own adapter using recycled wood and some Velcro for under $2 and it worked perfectly throughout the whole trip. Our safari guide even commented that it was the first he had seen the binoculars setup and was really impressed

[6.6' / 2 m] My goal was a moderately priced binocular as a first time birder. After reviewing three top competitors from several sources, I selected the Hawke product. They are easy to handle, focus and feel good in the hands. The case and presentation of product is superb. The binocular harness was an added bonus. Thank you B&H for continuing to provide excellent product and service.

[4.2 mm] First off, thanks for the really quick two day delivery and great price.
Now for the Binoculars,,,,
These Hawkes' just exude quality!
I have a pair of very high priced 10 x 50 binos from another manufacturer and the bright clear image of these 10 x 42 Hawkes' just puts the other to shame. They snap into focus and have a superb dept of field that doesn't require constant refocusing.
Everything is well thought out including the well designed carrying case.
These have proven to be a worth while purchase.

[4.2 mm] I am an avid bird watcher, but I am still quite new to the hobby. A few months ago I purchased a pair of well known binoculars that I thought were good, but something about them just seemed off. I decided to sell them, and then I stumbled upon the Hawke Frontier ED X 8x42. These binoculars blow my last pair out of the water, and the best part is that these sell at a lower price than my last pair!

The overall ergonomics feel great, the whole binocular feels solid and the rubber armor is nice and grippy. I noticed that this binocular is rather compact, which is great. The weight is perfect.

The eyecups adjust to just the right length for my eyeglasses. The diopter adjustment is well made. Although it does not lock, it has the right amount of resistance needed to keep in place. The focus knob is excellent, very smooth and easy to grip with just the right focusing speed. All of the adjustments are smooth and feel quality.

The accessories are well thought out and practical. The covers for the objective lenses are simple yet effective, they do not fall off easily. The case looks great and it holds the binoculars snuggly. I love the magnetic closing feature, not having to zip and unzip the zipper in the field will help to avoid startling birds. The neck strap feels nice, but I personally opt to use the binocular harness that comes included when you purchase from B&H.

The optics in these binoculars are superb. I have had no problem using them in full sunlight or on cloudy days. The field of view is nice and wide, the image is sharp, and the colors are well defined. My last pair of binoculars seemed to darken the image a bit, these have no noticeable problem with brightness.

Overall I am very impressed with these binos. For the price you will not be disappointed.

[Center] I am very happy with these binoculars. I am using them on a birding trip to Costa Rica and find them to be very good in low light situations and very sharp at distances. I bought them to replace my 30 year old Leica bins and am very pleased.

[Roof (BAK4)] The Hawke Frontier ED x is easy to use! I did a lot of research before ordering these binoculars. It is of high quality. It's perfect for birding. I liked it so much I purchased the same binoculars in green for my spouse.

[Roof (BAK4)] I purchased these binoculars to use for birding while getting my Leica 8x32 binos repaired, and also to have a backup pair. I bought them based on their specs and other reviews without trying them first, which can be risky. So I knew before I got them that a big negative was likely to be that the focus knob turned in the opposite direction as my Leica's. I can say that this is the only negative, and not as big of one as I had feared, mainly because of the incredibly smooth focusing. The optical quality seems as good as my Leica's to my older eyes, the 8x42 allows more light to come in compared to my Leica's, they are about the same weight, and have a great field of view. I am very happy with my purchase and I might stick with them even after I get my Leica's back, mainly because of the amazingly smooth and fast focusing without a weight penalty.

[3.31 lb] I never knew the brand Hawke before. I read a couple of reviews mentioning the brand recently. So I decided to buy a pair to see if they are good. I found the APO probably has the best optical performance that you can buy under $3,000. I don't know it's durability. But in general, the build quality is very good. If you're an amateur user, the APO should be your top choice.
