The Tiffen 4x5.65" Black Pro-Mist Filter 1/4helps to reduce the value of the highlights while slightly lowering the overall contrast. This filter is especially useful for smoothing out and softening facial wrinkles and other blemishes. While designed for use with movies, this filter can also be used for fashion and beauty applications. Unlike a traditional diffusion or soft focus filter, Pro-Mist filters provide little loss of detail across the image. The 1/4 density provides a very small amount of contrast and highlight reduction and allows for a soft, pastel-like quality of light.

Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch. This filter measures 4 x 5.65" / 101.6 x 143.5mm.

[0.45 lb] This filter lowers contrast (functionally increasing dynamic range) and adds a glowy bloom around the highlights in your image. I have been enjoying the look they provide to get away from the sharp digital video look and lean more into cinema/film looks. You need to watch out for clipping areas like bright lights and windows however, because these filters do cause lens flares and ghosting with extreme sources of overexposed areas. 5

[0.45 lb] I bought the 1/4 and 1/8 Black-Pro-Mist filters for myself recently but I have been using them for years on a number of productions and they always help in achieving the 'look' that so many modern filmmakers desire. There's a reason why their diffusion filter is so trusted and praised even years after the competition has had time to catch up. You get so much value for your money and you can honestly never go wrong with using either of these filters. 5

[0.45 lb] I bought this to basically live on my Viltrox 27 1.2 for X-Mount, which is just a little too sharp for my Boudoir clients. This fixes my problem perfectly- it just takes the edge off. 5
