Take your astrophotography and imaging to the next level with the Starlight Xpress Maxi Filter Wheel. This model comes outfitted with a carousel that accepts up to eleven 1.25" eyepiece filters mounted in standard frames for use on cameras with large-format imaging sensors. Using this filter wheel allows you to change filters without having to touch your gear, un-mount or disassemble your imaging system, or otherwise touch your gear. With so many filter cells available, you are able to use your primary colored filters, plus special ones like a narrow band, nebulae, and clear focusing filters.

An internal low power consumption sub-miniature DC motor drive rotates the filter carousel. This drive system also produces quiet and vibration-free filter changes. The filter location placement are tracked by three Hall-effect magnetic encoder sensors, which prevents the filters from getting out of sequence leading to the wrong filter to be put in the optical path and affecting your exposure. Using a magnetic encoder system, instead of the more common infrared (IR) optical system, eliminates the possibility of stray IR light from accidentally hitting your camera's sensor and causing ghosting or artifacts. The wheel is powered and controlled by a standard USB connection to your Windows computer.

Out of the box the wheel comes equipped with front and rear 72mm mounting adapters, but an array of optional mounting adapters are available to custom-fit the wheel to your specific telescope and camera. For further customization, the carousel can be easily removed and replaced for compatibility with different sizes of mounted and unmounted filters. An integrated off-axis guider port allows you to install an OAG to correct any tracking errors during your long imaging sessions. The OAG prism is specifically designed to be parfocal with the Starlight Xpress Lodestar or Superstar guide cameras—other OAGs will fit the port, but the manufacturer cannot guarantee that they will also be parfocal.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What magnification would this be on a 100mm m2 Celestron spotting scope?

A: 540mm focal length divided by 18mm eyepiece = 30x Sincerely, Garrett at Celestron

Q: 2. Are there t-threads behind the eyecup that a T-adapter can screw onto?

A: The Celestron 8-24mm Zoom Eyepiece (1.25") BH #CEEPZ824 • MFR #93230 has no T-threads.

Q: 3. Is this eyepiece compatible with the ETX-60AT telescope?

A: I have checked the Meade Manual available online. The telescope uses the standard 1.25 eyepieces. I would imagine that standard eyepieces are capable of achieving focus since they talk about buying extra eyepieces. With a 60mm 350mm focal length the 25mm and 9mm eyepieces supplied with the unit produce 14 and 39 magnifications and a 5mm would produce 70 magnifications. From my early experience with a longer focus refractor a practical absolute maximum magnification is twice the diameter of the front lens in millimetres (that is 120), providing the optics are good. What I am saying is, Don't expect to just keep adding magnification - the image will become very faint and fuzzy. Besides at such very high magnification strange things happen. The very small exit pupil projects floaters etc and granular 'things' in your eye directly onto your retina overlaying the 'real' image and becoming very annoying. The 5mm X-Cel has a nice wide 60 degree field, and at 70 magnification high power should prove a very satisfactory complement to the 25mm and 9mm if the telescope lens quality and optical system is good.Because the magnification is higher, the image will be fainter so it is more likely that you will use it for Moon, Planets, and Double Stars. Also it will require more care to locate objects. Still it should prove a good choice for higher magnification use.As you see from the illustration it will be bulkier and heavier but a price must be paid for the wide field and good eye relief.

Q: 4. does it work in the celestron omni xlt130? in the original 25 mm eyepiece and the omni 4mm eyepiece?

A: Yes it will work on both 25mm and 4 mm eye piece which you got with you celestron omni xlt130.

Q: 5. I have a Celestron TrailSeeker 80 spotting scope. It came with its own 8-24 zoom eyepiece. It's fine. But would this different 8-24 eyepiece be an upgrade? Is the quality higher? If so, great. If not, I'll stick with the original.

A: The Celestron 8-24mm Zoom Eyepiece (1.25") BH #CEEPZ824 • MFR #93230 is the same eyepiece that comes with the Celestron TrailSeeker 80 20-60x80 Spotting Scope.

A: Dear Qassem, Please contact our Technical Support Department, so a representative can speak to you and help to troubleshoot the issue which could be caused by a variety of different reasons such as optics in need of collimation, scope needing cool down, etc. You can reach our Technical Support Department by submitting a ticket at: https://www.celestron.com/pages/technical-support Sincerely, Garrett at Celestron

Q: 8. Hi. Could I attach this to a Nikon D500? If so how can I do it? Thanks.

A: No, this cannot be attached to a DSLR

Q: 9. Will these filters work with the Meade 114EQ-AST 4.5 /114mm Reflector Telescope Kit B&H # ME114EQST / MFR # 04066-1 ? How do they compare to the Meade #3200 Lunar and Planetary Color 4-Piece Filter Set ?

A: Yes this filter set will be compatible with your Meade 114EQ-AST 4.5 /114mm Reflector Telescope Kit. Both kits are actually somewhat comparable. Some reviewers have said the Meade is better quality wise. Personally I think they are the same.

Q: 10. Is it possible to remove the cross hairs?

[3.5 lb / 1.6 kg] Love this filter wheel! Very easy to open and install filters. Works great with ASCOM driver connectivity. This model is the stand alone version with no OAG. I added the Starlight OAG, as a separate component which connected flawlessly to the filter wheel. My main use is for RGB/UV/IR and Ha. Top notch, B&H carries some of the finest Astro equipment available.

[11] This eyepiece (12mm) is the perfect addition to my set. Objects look sharp and in my focal length gives me the perfect magnification for planets and very good definition for deeper objects.
The rubber around the eye is a great feature.

[3.5 lb / 1.6 kg] When I recieved my Celestron Eyepiece Filter Set (1.25) I had little knowledge of how it would change my life! Almost immeadately after opening the package I was swarmed with beautiful women who had a strong desire to view the planets! Never before had they seen such amazing sites and I was the one able to bring that to them! Thanks Celestron!

[3.5 lb / 1.6 kg] I have filters for both astrophotography and photometry. Getting a second carousel for my filter wheel was a good economic solution. It would be great if this came with a protective case.

[3.5 lb / 1.6 kg] I am just getting into telescopes and astronomy. I was happy with my cheap H25mm until i checked out this one. What a difference!! And not just in magnification but calarity!! All the posts and research i read stated that Plossl EP's where the way to go. It is like comparing apples and oranges to the one i had. Everything is crisp, i can definitley see more detail and allot more stars. Able to see Jupiter and the moons, not exactly clearly but was still very impressed with how it looked. I am already ordering more Celestron Plossl eyepices to include a 32mm, 9mm, and maybe another 25mm to replace the cheap H25mm i have.
