This 10-stop, 77mm PolarPro QuartzLine ND & CPL Filter 77mm 3-Stopfrom PolarPro QuartzLine ND & CPL Filter 77mm 3-Stopis a filter that combines a solid neutral density effect with a circular polarizer effect. When in use, this filter's 8x filter factor provides a 3-stop exposure reduction. Its 0.9 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

Simultaneously, this filter can help to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges and filters this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

This filter is constructed from quartz glass for enhanced durability. To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, 16 layers of anti-reflection coatings offer scratch protection to the filter substrate while promoting clarity and color fidelity. The coatings associated with the PolarPro 77mm ND8 QuartzLine Solid Neutral Density 0.9 and Circular Polarizer Filter also result in an improved beading effect when in contact with water or oil, allowing for more efficient cleaning.

The quartz glass is set within a brass filter ring with side knurlings that can be rotated in order to adjust the intensity of the polarization effect. Together, the brass material and knurlings prevent jamming and provide additional strength, as well as a textured grip when mounting or removing this filter from a lens.

0.9 neutral density filter effect darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required

Providing an 8x filter factor with a 3-stop exposure reduction, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily

Polarizing filter effect arranges and filters directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of the light

Helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors

Strongest polarization effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun

Circular polarizer effect is ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses, where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features

Constructed from quartz glass for enhanced durability

Multi-coated to prevent internal ghosting and reflections while promoting clarity as well as color fidelity

Brass filter ring helps to prevent jamming and provides additional strength

Filter ring can be rotated to adjust the intensity of the polarization effect

77mm front filter threads allow for use with other filters

Side knurlings provide a textured grip when mounting or removing from a lens

Q: 1. How about the Warranty of it?

A: Here are the warranty details right from the manufacturer: Terms PolarPro’s Limited Lifetime Warranty covers PolarPro products under their intended use. This warranty does not cover the negligent use of any product, including; scratches or cracks on filter lenses from improper use or storage, or damage from mishandling or dropping the product. PolarPro’s Limited Lifetime Warranty is non-transferable and is applicable to the original purchaser only. It cannot be extended to cover second-hand purchases from unauthorized resellers. All warranty claims should include a dated proof of purchase with description of product sold. Items bought from unauthorized resellers will not be covered under warranty.

Q: 2. Would this filter give me rich and colorful results when doing street photography, and if so, how many stops should I go for so that I dont have to change the filter too often even if it gets dark, 3, 4 stops?... or should I go for a polarizer one? Thanks

A: Yes, it will clean up your images by saturating colors and increasing contrast. I would just go with a polarizer that would cut out about 1-2 stops.

Q: 3. How does this compare to the ND1000 without the polarizer? Does adding the polarizer feature have any negative impact on the quality of the ND aspect of it?

A: Having the added polarizer allows you to reduce reflection or glare in addition to reducing the exposure overall.

Q: 4. Does the combo ND/PL also help w/ saturation/contrast as well or just glare reduction?

A: When using the variable circular polarizing section of the PolarPro 82mm ND64 QuartzLine Solid Neutral Density 1.8 and Circular Polarizer Filter, one can increase saturation and contrast in a photo, as well as glare reduction.

Q: 5. Does this work with a Canon R5 24-105 lens (77mm) - and if so, can I screw it into the UV-Haze filer that I keep on this lens for protection?

A: Yes, the PolarPro 77mm QuartzLine Circular Polarizer Filter will work with a Canon 24-105mm lens; any 77mm filter will adapt to a Canon 24-105mm lens. We highly suggest using slim-profile filters to avoid vignetting issues.

Q: 6. Where are these made? Thanks.

A: These are manufactured in China.

Q: 7. Curious if this ND/PL stacked with a Tiffen Black ProMist on a 24mm lens will cause vinette problems (@f/1.4 thru f/4)? I'm thinking it likely will and might then go for non PL version as it looks slightly thinner? Cheers if anyone's already test this out?

A: If you use this on a full-frame camera, you would be likely to have some vignetting. On a crop-sensor camera, it would be less likely.

Q: 8. I have a Tamron 100-400 f4.5-6.3. Is an ND64 filter too high of stops for it? What should I take into consideration when looking for ND/Polarizer filters?

A: It's hard to say how many stops is too much because the contextual information (i.e. the kind of exposure/photograph you are trying to create) has significant influence on how many stops you might need. Technically you can use any amount of stops you want and likely achieve a similar result, but you will need to adjust your ISO, aperture, and/or shutter speed/bulb exposure times to compensate for the light loss. The ND64 QuartzLine ND and CP combo is great because it allows you to the option of not stacking a simple ND and CPL, thereby shooting through two pieces of glass instead of three. This is better for image clarity and lowers the chance of reflection/refraction issues between filters and glare.

Q: 9. Hello! Does this filter have front threads (to attach a lens cap)? Thanks!

A: Yes. 77mm front filter threads allow for use with other filters or a lens cap.

Q: 10. Can you use the lens hood on a Nikkor Z 24-70mm f2.8 S lens with this CP filter?

A: You can use them together but it will be difficult to adjust the polarizer.

[0.35 lb] I am in love with this filter!
1) The image quality is fantastic. I haven’t noticed any softness or degradation of the scene.
2) No noticeable color cast. I can’t tell you how happy I am to not have to color correct unless I want to for creative reasons!
3) It’s super easy to clean! I don’t know what kind of devil magic they did, but this thing hardly ever shows finger prints and dust/smudges come right off.
All in all, I cannot find anything to gripe about this filter. Is great and I can’t wait to get my next one!
