Whether you're making cyanotypes, sun prints, or other alternative processes that use a contact printing frame, the 11 x 14" Photographers Formulary Contact Print Frame 11x14from Photographers Formulary Contact Print Frame 11x14is an ideal choice to make your personalized work. The frame is made of a solid 2" ash wood with a felt-lined 1/2" plywood that is hinged, so it can be easily removed from the frame. By placing the material against the museum-grade glass, positioning the felt-lined backing, and closing it with the swing arm locking mechanism, it keeps the print completely flat for exposure to light. To ensure complete exposure of the material, the glass is one inch larger all around than the print.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What colors does it come in?

A: Black. This product just comes in black, as listed in the description. Good for light sensitive chemistry.

Q: 2. How long can Glycin be stored without opening the package?

A: The shelf life of glycine powders and 10x stock solutions can exceed 1 year. However, as glycine ages, it becomes oxidized and may yield yellow-colored solutions. This may affect the pH of the solution. If yellowing occurs, it is recommended that you replace the product.

Q: 3. What are the outside dimensions of this frame?

A: The Photographers' Formulary Select Contact Print Frame (11 x 14") has outside dimensions of 16x20 inches.

Q: 4. Does this frame have enough depth to hold a photopolymer plate?

A: The Photographers' Formulary Select Contact Print Frame (11 x 14") is for making contact prints in the darkroom. The back presses tight to the glass to hold the negatives flat against the front glass. If the photopolymer plate has more depth than a sheet of darkroom paper, it will not fit.

Q: 5. I have several fibre prints which are printed about half to one stop darker than I would like, can I use potassium ferricyanide as bleach to brighten them up a bit? What is the best dilution ratio? Is it still okay to selenium tone the prints after bleaching?

A: It is better to use a Farmer reducer for a whole print bleaching. And yes after the bleaching prints can be toned in celenium.

Q: 6. Is this harmful to the lungs?

A: Never heard disease because of metol

Q: 7. if I get 100 grams Potassium Ferricyanide should I get 250 grams Ferric Ammonium Citrate to get proper soulution for cyanotype prints ?

A: This would be a proper mixture for cyanotype prints.

Q: 8. What country is it made in?

A: The Photographers' Formulary Tyvek Apron is made in China.

Q: 9. What are the outside dimensions of the 8x10" frame?

A: The Photographers' Formulary Select Contact Print Frame (8 x 10") has outside dimensions of 14x16 inches.

Q: 10. How long is the shelf life once mixed? Is the solution oxygen sensitive?

A: This is from their website:The unused solution keeps indefinitely. After the first use, however, it should not be kept more than two months. Its capacity is about 20 8X10's for paper, 29 rolls of 120film, or 36 exposure 35mm film per liter of working solution.I'm not sure about oxidation, but with at two month shelf life, I don't believe that will be a problem (I am not an expert on this subject).

[9.9 lb] I needed a larger printing frame, fast, for a cyanotype project I'm working on. The sheet of plate glass and foam pad I was using didn't create enough pressure for a sharp contact print. I'm glad I found this frame! I was pleased with the price and relieved it was in stock. It arrived the next day and didn't need any alteration before I started using it. I'm not an expert on glass composition, but the glass provided with the frame is clear (as expected) and cyanotypes expose at a speed comparable to times I get with a sheet of low iron glass I have in a smaller frame. The rubber feet are a welcome addition that makes it easier to pick up this substantial frame. It creates plenty of pressure to keep the negative in contact with a sheet of sumi-e paper (which can be slightly wavy) and yields sharp prints.

[9.9 lb] Just a basic apron to keep my clothes clean of any splashed chemicals. The apron is made of some sort of paper and polyurethane (or something) mix, not going to last a lifetime but it'll do for now.

[9.9 lb] This is built very heavy-duty, it feels more like a piece of furniture than a picture frame. The two large swing arms that press the backing to the glass are *so* much easier to use than the little perimeter tabs found on cheaper models. Definitely highly quality, and worth the extra money to go with this high-quality version, if you can.

[9.9 lb] Really sturdy and much thicker than I originally anticipated--it's a good thing for my uses, but if you have a low clearance under a UV box, you might want to measure it first before ordering. Obviously well made, and pleasant to use.
