Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. It looks like this doesn't come with a power supply. If that is correct, is there an approved one for this unit?

A: The KeyStep offers two options for powering. The USB port can connect to a computer for both power and data. The USB cable can also be used with a wall plug (the type that you would use to charge a phone), such as the Xuma 2.4A USB Charger with Folding Prongs (B&H # XUCAC124). The other option for powering is to use a standard 9V DC 500mA center positive (5.5 X 2.1 X 12mm) power adapter, such as the BOSS PSA-120S AC Adapter (B&H # BOPSA120S2). Here is a link for the product manual -- see page 15 for info regarding the power options. http://downloads.arturia.net/products/keystep/manual/KeyStep_Manual_1_0_0_EN.pdf

Q: 2. Hi there anyone tried to use Arturia Beatstep Controller & Sequencer, in roland V-1HD video switcher? I need to control the audio and add some custom keys to effects. Thanks

A: The Arturia Beatstep is a universal MIDI controller that allows users to control software programs. You may use it to control audio functions within a program and parameters within the given program, but not the Roland V-1HD.

Q: 3. Is the shelf/extension for a laptop an included standard accessory? How large of a laptop can it accomodate?

A: The Arturia KeyLab 88 MkII Hammer-Action MIDI Controller and Software (White) does include a laptop plate, the dimensions of which are 16" x 10.3".

Q: 4. Hello. Can this be played as a stand alone piano with inbuilt voices or it's solely a keyboard controller?

A: The Nektar Technology Impact LX49+ is a MIDI controller only.

Q: 5. Hi! 2 questions:1. it works with Resolume? (vj software)2. it works with Traktor (dj software)thanks

A: The Korg nanoKEY2 is compatible with both Resolume and Traktor both which support MIDI control and mapping of functionality. Compatible with Mac and PC as well.

Q: 6. Does the MiniFuse go into standby when the computer is put to sleep, or do the LEDs stay on all the time unless you unplug the USB cable?

A: The Arturia MiniFuse 2 Portable 2x2 USB Type-C Audio/MIDI Interface will remain on as long there is voltage sent from the computer's USB port to the interface. When the computer goes to sleep, the interface will eventually shut down as well and the LEDs will also turn off.

Q: 7. Will this control Cakewalk Sonar or Artist DAWs?

A: Yes, that is possible, there is no template available, so you will have to assign each function from the DAW software and save the settings as a template.

Q: 8. hi what are the dimensions of this key lab thanks?

A: The Arturia KeyLab MKII 49 measures 31.2 x 11.7 x 2.1" (793 x 297 x 53 mm).

Q: 9. Can it control 2 midi synths at a time, each with distinct, but synced patterns? If so, what to know when setting this up? THanks!

A: Yes. You can control up to three devices with the Beatstep. Here is a forum post from Arturia on how to do it. https://forum.arturia.com/index.php?topic=89269.0

[16.5 lb] Great keyboard and was a great deal with the V Collection 6, some confusion in the DAW control but totally manageable

[16.5 lb] I had the Keylab61 MKII, but needed the hammer-action keys for orchestral arrangments, and just because I like the feel of a real piano. I read reviews that said the action is heavy, it is, but not in a bad way. Most real pianos I have played have a heavier action so maybe I am used to it.

Connectivity: Yeah, it's amazing with Cubase. I found a script online and I was off to the races. I open up the MIDI control center and adjust some user defined MIDI CC presets for a lot of my orchestral VST's, and easy peasy.

Build Quality: The Komplete Kontrol everyone hems and haws about is plastic and more expensive, it also doesn't integrate as well as they would like you to believe. This thing is metal, and beautiful with wood accents. No, you don't get a big LCD screen, like I need another screen, I have two 32 screens already.

Bottom line, if you want something that you can feel expressive on, has all the MIDI sliders and knobs you need to fiddle about, or make your orchestral arrangements sound more realistic, this is it. I love my Arturia. They are like teenage engineering but affordable.

[16.5 lb] My husband played a real piano & keyboards he was younger but hasn't played for years. He wanted to start again and debated between the KeyLab 88 MKII and a more traditional stand alone piano-type keyboard. He's so happy we went this route.

He uses it with Logic Pro and feels the KeyLab offers the perfect amount of features without adding unnecessary things. He hasn't yet figured it all out, but it's great to sit down and play freely or to record using the software and create a song.

The build is excellent, with a metal body and wood accents. The action of the key bed is excellent and is much closer to a real piano than non-weighted keys. The additional weight of the keys makes playing at different volume levels very easy.

One complain that he had was the lack of documentation on how to set it up and integrate it with different DAWs, but Arturia's tech support is top notch and quickly replied with a long and detailed emailing showing step by step directions on how to set it up with Logic Pro. Plus, their website has a great FAQ section and detailed user manuals that cover how to use most of the keyboard's features.

In addition to a great keyboard, the unit comes with some wonderful software. It includes Ableton Live Lite for those who don't already have a DAW. It also comes with Piano V/V2, which is a piano software add-on worth $249 by itself and Analog Lab, which is a collection of older (from the 80s I think), classic synthesizer sounds worth $199.

So, the keyboard itself is a great item for the price, but when all the additional software is included, the KeyLab 88 MkII is a wonderful item.

[16.5 lb] A great addition to your Arturia KeyLab 88 MkII. So much better looking than the standard metal keyboard stand, very sturdy and with adjustable legs allow you to well situate the keyboard to your workroom. Definitely recommended.

[16.5 lb] I was looking for a controller that had a real piano feel but also integrated out of the box w/ my DAW (Logic). It was between this and the M-Audio Hammer 88. This one looks and feels much higher quality and has a lot more onboard controls that allow me to do most of what I need in Logic right from the Arturia controller. It looks really great in the studio too!

[16.5 lb] This thing is really sturdy and has very good keyboard feel. There are better-feeling keyoards but nowhere near this price range. The pads are surprisingly good as well. Connectivity is above expectations especially when paired to Analog Lab or the included presets.

[16.5 lb] Don't have a lot to compare it to, but sequencer and key action seem about as good as I could ask for as a newb electronic music creator.

[LCD] This is a solid MIDI controller with nice feeling semi-weighted keyboard. It has lots of integrated controls for modulating the included Arturia synth plugins and good integration with many popular DAW software packages. I opted for the semi-weighted 61 key version due to recovering from 60+ years of making parts and hand issues. There is an 88 key piano weighted version also.
