Compact wide-angle prime is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 36mm equivalent focal length.

Maximum f/2.8 aperture helps to achieve the slim, portable form factor while also remaining versatile for use in a variety of lighting conditions.

Three aspherical elements and two high refractive index elements help control spherical aberrations and distortions for improved sharpness, resolution, and clarity.

An Ultra Multi-Coating has been applied to individual elements in order to reduce flare and ghosting for increased contrast and a neutral color balance.

The integrated autofocus motor works in conjunction with Sony cameras' focusing systems for quick, accurate, and precise AF control. Manual focus override is also available for refining your focus position.

Internal focusing design maintains the overall lens length and prevents the front of the lens from rotating during use.

Seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.

Included lens hood helps to block stray light from causing flare and ghosting.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this lens compatible with the facial recognition auto focus feature on the Sony A73 ? Or do I need sony glass for this

A: Yes it is. I can't speak to the facial registration, but it has no problems with face detection AF. I'm assuming that registering a face for a shoot would work just fine seeing the how well the face AF works. Also this lens is very sharp with a surprisingly fast and quite AF motor.

Q: 2. Does anyone have any sample shots? How does this compare to your typical .3X deathlens used to film skateboarding?

A: Rokinon, the high end line of affordable lenses made by Samyang as always been considered a maker of good lenses at a remarkable price. We have no doubt the image will be very good and the lens a great value. The FOV or Field of View should be a tad less than the Schneider .3X Ultra Fisheye Adapter if looked at on the same camera.

Q: 3. Will this lens be good for astrophotography?

A: 24mm provides a wide angle of view that is great for astrophotography on a full frame sensor. If your camera has an APS-C sized sensor the lens will have a an angle of view equivalent to 36mm, which is still usable but personally I prefer something wider for landscapes or astrophotography.

Q: 4. Will this work on Sony A6500 and if so what would it be? Like not 24mm but ??

A: on apsc it would work like 35mm or more.

Q: 5. What is the outer diameter of this lens? I want to purchase a push-on lens cap (such as MFR #91-030379).

A: Other answer is correct, the hood has flanges to allow for a hood, a push on cap would not work, you would need to get the cap for the hood. The hood is about 2.5", you would need to try a push on cap from 62mm-67mm.

Q: 6. Can anyone provide any feedback using this lens for astrophotography? How is the coma? Is there any distortion?

A: The coma is quite minimal and very little distortion, great lens for the money.

Q: 7. How is the AF with video on this lens? Is the issue resolved? I want a native AF wide angle to use it on a gimbal.

A: I found that the autofocus works. But with the Sony A7Sii (which has a bad autofocus) it really is not worth the jump for video, but for photos it is spectacular. If you have a Sony A7iii or A7Riii this lens is spot on, peachy good!

Q: 8. will lack sharpness on a aps-c sensor is the main question

A: Christopher Frost on youtube did a great review of this lens on both sony FE camera and an apsc camera. The lens performed great on the apsc and even better on the FE camera

Q: 9. I've seen specs other places that show this as aluminum alloy weather sealed? There is an answer here that says not weather sealed?

A: This version is weather sealed.

Q: 10. Is this lens already with the new firmware? Is auto focus improvement already present or will I have to upgrade?

A: Hi--all cameras and lenses delivered to us have the latest available firmware installed, but manufacturers don't tell us the version for each shipment--it's the latest that was available when the product shipped. A firmware update released in the last month is probably not installed. You will need to check the lens for the firmware version.

[f/22] I am very happy with this lens. It is compact, light, and a good optical performer. I have experienced occasional hunting for focus when the subject is close to , but not exceeding, the near focus distance . I would rate it as 9 out of 10.

[0.54 lb] I was using Rokinon since 90s. It was Rokinon 8.5 mmf2-8 on on my Nikon cropped sensor. Now I'm a Sony mirrorless guy.
I'm older now (75) and can not handle big gears.
All i can say get one and use it, you will be surprise how good this lens
performs

[f/2.8] Bought this for my A7s as a do-all lens. Trying to keep the camera light and small so I am more inclined to bring it along. This little lens is amazing. Super sharp and auto focus is lightning fast. It does have a natural vignette (darkening around the edges) when shooting wide open. If you close down a bit it goes away (5.6/8). So far I am very happy with this lens after a few weeks of owning it. Hopefully they make more focal lengths.

[82.1°] I really wanted the 24mm gmaster, but I just knew that the weight and size of it would keep my from using it as much as I would have liked to, so I took the risk of getting this tiny lens, weighs less than 100g without the hood and lens cover.  While 2.8 is not 1.4, it is still good enough for indoors, especially paired with a small flash, like the on-camera flash from my a6000 or the HVLF20M on my A7ii.  It is a great walk around lens.  It does not feel all that strong and i think it is all plastic, but it also does not leave me with durability concerns.  Wide open, there is vignetting, but I dont see much of vignetting when used indoors with a flash or outdoor lighting.  Some have reported the mount is metal, but I doubt it.  I think it is of some sort of higher density plastic, but I could be wrong.  If you want inconspicuous, light weight 24mm FE focal length for $299, this is it.  No gripes about the autofocus, just as good as my SEL1670z.  This lens is good enough for my purpose. I am not a professional photographer, just someone that got tired of seeing poor quality pics all over our digital universe and decided not to contribute.

[Autofocus] This is a good lens for full frame and excellent for APSC cameras. I have been using it as a 36mm equivalent on a NEX-6 with sharp and saturated results. Very happy with this purchase.

[f/22] I had reservations about buying a third party lens but the reviews and price of this Rokinon lens made my decision to purchase this lens a no brainer. The smoke was just clearing in the California Central Valley when I ventured forth to take my first pictures with this 22mm f/2.8 FE lens for the Sony E mount. Both pictures were shot on uncompressed raw, ISO 100 format. The berries at f4 1/200 and the river shot at f5.6 1/200. The berries surprised me, being razor sharp with no extension tube, just the lens itself. The subtle Fall colors of the other shot also surprised me. This is a super, super light little lens with above average capabilities. If you are on the fence thinking about buying this lens then just click the buy button. You will not be disappointed. www.leephotostudio.com
