A: Hey I am a hardware developer that specializes in USB stuff. USB type C is a little complicated in that there are 2 sets of what we call SERDES. Or high speed serial interfaces. These can be setup as USB-SS3, Display or Thunderbolt. This adapter will indicate to the host that one of the SERDES is now Thunderbolt. It will also indicate to the power protocol stuff required for the Thunderbolt 2 connection. Then of course the pins will be routed to the appropriate pins on the Thunderbolt 2 connector.

Q: 6. I have MBPro mid 2012 which has thunderbolt port. Can I use this adapter to connect EXT hard drive with TB3 port? meaning - connecting thunderbolt cable to my MBPro then cable to adapter and then adapter to hard drive..? does it work this way?

A: No. The TB3 port has to be in the computer for this adapter to work. Tried this myself.

A: Yes. I use it for my old gaming headset with separate headphones and mic

A: Yes, you can use this adapter together with a standard thunderbolt cable to connect the two computers together.

A: Unfortunately Usb type c/thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2 cables don't exist yet, just the adapters.

[0.04 lb] Another reviewer said it didn’t work at all… which is not the case if you use it with a keyboard that inherently supports PS/2 and USB (i.e. the IC of the device needs to be able to communicate using the PS/2 protocol). This adapter is a purely mechanical converter. Many modern keyboards don’t support it, some do. Your mileage might vary. Don’t blame StarTech for this though since it’s by design. 5
