Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. can I install 4TB NVME cards to this? if so what are they?

A: Yes, you can use 4TB M.2 NVMe SSDs in the HighPoint RocketStor 6661A-NVMe Thunderbolt 3 to NVMe RAID Adapter. I'd recommend the Crucial 4TB P3 Plus NVMe PCIe 4.0 M.2 Internal SSD, B&H # CRCT4000P3PS.

Q: 2. Can you use multiple RS5212 at the same time, on a thunderbolt hub, or from two separate thunderbolt connectors on my MacBookPro? (Use two/three of these to access 4/6 drives at the same time)

A: You can not daisy chain them. but if you use separate connections from MBP, it will see 4/6 drives at the same time.

Q: 3. What is the power output that the connected drives would receive?

A: That information is not available even from Highpoint themselves. The only specifications regarding hard drives is that this unit will support up to an 8 TB hard drive per slot. The unit itself is 100 - 240 V AC 12 VDC at 4.2 A.

Q: 4. Can this enclosure use SAS drives? Is the Pcie controller installed at the enclosure or in the computer? If it's inside the computer, the enclosure would just be attached to that particular computer. Am I correct?

A: This enclosure is for SATA drives, but it has a SFF-8088 port for use with SAS drives.

Q: 5. Do thea work inside the 6418TS 8bay chassis?

A: This will not be compatible with the 6418TS.

Q: 6. it is compatible with macbook pro 17 late 2011?

A: As long as it has a thunderbolt port.

Q: 7. What speed drives does the "HighPoint RocketStor 6414S..." support?

A: So the HighPoint RocketStor 6414S supports, SAS 7200 rpm drives that have transfers at 226 MB/s, and also supports 2.5 sata SSD's with a transfer speeds around 500 MB/s.

Q: 8. Does this work with El Capitan? Is anyone using it with 6TB drives? Does it allow for easy mounting and unmounting of drives while there are two hardrives connected? any crash issues or kernel panic warnings I should know about?

A: I have El Capitan running on a SSD in the dock, no problems, crashes, etc.

Q: 9. Can each thunderbolt be used to connect a different host computer so each can access drives at the same time?

A: The two ports are for daisy chaining devices but only one computer can be attached to a DAS at once.

Q: 10. is this product compatible with mac studio 2023, sequia 15.0 in raid 0?

A: Yes, the HighPoint RocketStor 8-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Enclosure is compatible with a 2023 Mac Studio on macOS Sequoia in a RAID 0 configuration.

[0.46 lb] This dock is great for a motion designer. I am able to work off one and back up to the other. Backup time is extremely fast thanks to the thunderbolt connection.

[0.46 lb] Was a bit skeptical w/ HP brand when I bought it. But surprisingly, the HP TB dock has been working for over 15 months in a customized travel case that I can take anywhere (hotel, coffee shops, production van, etc). So far it can handle the rough abuse on the road and air travel, extreme operating temperatures from 20 deg  to 95 deg F. Thats the way its on location.  I can use any 3.5 SATA hdds (3-14 Tb). Performance is about 10 Gb/s (1,250 MB/s. Plenty of bandwidth for a typical Seagate Barracuda Pro single SATA drive that caps off at around 250 MB/s with no RAID.  Fairly decent read and write speed. I do not like to buy expensive G-Raid hdds. Theyre nice but just cost too much when youre shooting massive amount of data. And last time I checked in the airport, had to pay for overweight fees because G-Raid drives were so heavy. I average about 8-12 Tb per day of raw footage data. If data i/o is beyond 20 Tb per day, this may be a big bottle neck unless you RAID the 2 drives via software. Bare Seagate Barracuda Pro 14 Tb hdds make more economical sense for massive data in the long run. Plus if you have lots of older 3-6 Tb bare hdds, they can be put to good use w/ this dock.  Dont mind about no power on switch or inability to daily chain to another TB2 port. Mac Mini 2018 has 4 USB-C ports. So not a big concern.  Thunderbolt seems to be much faster than USB3 when high amount of data is transferred at a time. Once the Mac Mini or MBPro is on, I know working because of the bright blue LEDs. Fits nicely in a Pelican case for easy transport. Can be hard configured for Mac Mini 2014, 2018 or any Mac Book Pro 2014 or later models. Havent have any drive disconnection issues since day 1 of using this. Very stable and reliable. Good price, performance and usefulness. Dont see why it will not be useful in any high data raw camera workflow. Will get 1-2 more of these later on for disk replication and data migration.

[16x 3.5"] I am a photographer and videographer and I work with a lot of hard drives that mount in the dock as needed. It works great. The Thunderbolt connection is super fast. The speed limit is on the disks, it is important to buy faster disks to take advantage of this gear. Other docks I've had suffered random disconnections and that is very dangerous to the integrity of the stored information. With this dock I haven't these problems (rarely). The truth is that I see no negatives.

[0.46 lb] I'm suing the Thunderbolt Dock as additional storage space to my existing Thunderbolt Lacie drives, I already had spare hard drives to use in the dock, all daisychained together ensures high speed transfer rates. The RocketStor Thunderbolt Dock was very easy to install & use on my Mac, solid construction that will last. Regarding design faults with this dock, they should have installed a double Thunderbolt port on the unit, for daisychaining devices, & the dock should be supplied with a Thunderbolt cable as standard.

[16x 3.5"] After replacing my Mac G5 with the new Mac Pro I had a couple of internal SATA drives that were full of archived work and active files. The RocketStor RS5212 was the perfect solution. I removed my drives from the old G5 and simply dropped them in the two slots on top of the RocketStor and I was once again up and running. The thunderbolt connection provides very fast transfer rates. One SATA is my Time Machine backup and accomplishes the task perfectly. I recommend this product to anyone who needs fast access and backup to data.

[0.46 lb] This 5212 Toaster indeed is a UNBEATABLE copy machine. I tried to copy 33GB of video from the 8bay highpoint 762 tower to a Samsung 840EVO SSD that installed in 5212 Toaster, the copy task completed in 56seconds. Surprisingly fast huh!

[0.46 lb] It stays on the floor, with a 6TB and an 8TB HD in it.

I have a small, quiet fan hitting it.

That dropped the operating temperature of these two drives from 121 F. to 84 F.

I vacuum it or blow it out periodically. Simple!

[1x 2.5" or 3.5"] Works as described. Great alternative to a traditional hard drive enclosure. I have many bare hard drives all formatted in raid with years worth of photo and video backups. This dock makes it easy to pull the drives off the shelf, plug them into the dock and get to work.

[0.46 lb] This dock has far surpassed our expectations, we have used them for the last year and they have performed at a high level, handling our onsite solid state drives through to our 4TB seagate working drives. It has transformed our travel workflow meaning we can take less gear. More recently I used this dock with my laptop on a Red Dragon 6K project and again it performed as I expected a thunderbolt dock should. Excellent. The only downside is the lack of a built in fan for the longer periods of use.
