With a quick setup, umbrella-type design, moderate power, and soft output, the ALZO 200 CFL Softbox Light Kit for Photographyis a versatile light source in the studio or on location. The kit contains a model 200 LED fixture which takes full advantage of the output from the two included 5500K daylight-balanced LED bulbs by holding them horizontally to expose more surface area rather than pointing them out vertically towards the front of the fixture. Although the bulbs together draw only minimal power, they produce the equivalent of a 600W tungsten flood. The light output has a CRI rating of 91, an indicator of accuracy in the rendering of color. The kit also includes a 27 x 27" softbox with a clever umbrella-like design and a removable front diffuser.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this fit onto a Canon RF 100mm f2.8 macro lens?

A: No, the ALZO sparks light will only adapt to lens with the following thread sizes 49, 52, 55mm. And no longer available system was announced discontinued.

Q: 2. Can I put those CFLs on dimmers?

A: Unfortunately, these bulbs are non-dimmable.

Q: 3. what cord does this light come with . I have a 30 year old tota light - same as this one . Its lasted , and is a wonderful light . I just need a new cord. Which cord do I buy?

A: The following cable is for use with the Tota Light; https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/31788-REG/Lowel_T1_80_16_Cable_Tota.html

Q: 4. Can you just buy the drum diffuser and and put other lights in it?

A: Although the fixture included with this diffuser is a standard Edison type, it has not been tested with all Edison type bulbs. Your results may vary.

Q: 5. Is this CFL bulb dimmable ?

A: Most cfl lamps do not dim effectivly and also may require dimmers specifically designed for the job ($$$). It is probably easier to have multiple lamps and to turn on what is needed, or to position lamps to give more or less light on the subject. X2 distance is x4 less light.

Q: 6. will they work on a dimmer?

A: They have a built in dimmer but you could attach them to a dimmer as well.

Q: 7. Could this be used for color correcting and viewing photographs?

A: It is 5500k and CRI 91. It would be a reasonable CFL to use.

Q: 8. Safe in a 24-30 inch china ball?

A: Yes, this ALZO 85W CFL Photo Light Bulb is safe for use with a china ball that measures 24-30 inches.

Q: 9. I am unfamiliar with ball heads, but I’ve had a desktop LED lamp hinge go floppy after a few uses, so I’m wondering: Are the ball heads strong enough that the lamps can be stored in the position shown (which is at an angle, so more strained than if it were upright) without giving way after a few weeks, becoming floppy and therefore useless?

A: It is possible over time, if you store them sideways they will not strain the ball head

Q: 10. how bright are they compared to the sun? Can I shoot a day scene at night indoors and use these lights to mimic the sun?

A: They are fairly bright and, unless you are lighting a very large space, would probably work fine. Certainly direct light from them would give quite a high noon glare -- but your actors wouldn't appreciate staring into these things -- so use the umbrellas!!

[Yes] Please disregard my prior review as I posted it before I shot a video with them. I have five of these in my kitchen's recessed light fixtures. These are large. The spiraled tube is thicker and longer, thus sticks out of the light fixture a bit. They are definitely bright white. Along with the Alzo 45W bulbs used in our soft light boxes, we have plenty of daylight white for our videos. This was the first set of videos my wife did not need to color correct, just had to modify brightness/contrast a little. Much improved over using a mix of the warmer light bulbs.

[6000 Hours] Just reordered eight of these. Purchased last set in 2010, as studio lights for product photography and video production. Long lasting. Quality light. Accurate color temp. If you use constant light source for photo or video these are the best bulbs out there. Durability depends on handling over time. Keep the boxes they come in. Repack and store in said boxes with included bubble wrap for years of use.

Just what I needed for my umbrella and my Zooms.

[CRI 91] I used this bulb for a separation light recently. The color
daylight balance seemed closer than my other CFLs. With more tests I may
consider changing out all of my CFLs.

[5600K] Its simple bright and cool. It generates very little heat. I use it in a soft box.Just screwed it in to a regular receptacle and it put out enough light for my video.

[5600K] I got these as a replacement. They are similar but bigger. Bases barely fit in my soft box, but thank fully they did and color is perfect

[170 W ] This is a good bulb if your building your first lighting setup. I'm using them with a softbox and a honeycomb. The honeycomb, similar to barn doors, allows you to focus the light in a general direction without leaking light to places you don't want the light to go or bounce. Makes a huge difference. Some tips: Use c-stands + weight bags, not 3-legged stands. 3-legged stands can tip over easy, take up more room, people can trip over them, and can't be weighed down. Use a socket with a fuse. These get hot. Ventilate. Do not leave unattended. Make sure all your lights in a socket have the same color temp. They last a long time provided you handle them with care. They have mercury, so don't break them and dispose of them properly.
