Due to the increasing number of devices with AES/EBU or AES/EBUid and S/PDIF interfaces found in every studio environment, often a problem of different transmission formats and interface standards occurs mostly when those devices should exchange their digital audio data. At this point, the MC1.1+ comes in and helps you to convert problem-free between the most popular digital audio formats and interface standards: AES3 and S/P-DIF. Using latest low-jitter audio PLLs and a low-noise PCB circuit design, the MC1.1+ not only converts, but also regenerates and improves your digital audio signal with clock rates up to 192 kHz. Thereby, the format conversion process does not only the necessary electrical conversion but also a real format conversion of the reference signals in compliance with the specifications standardized by the Audio Engineering Society (AES) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). This feature truly helps you to avoid incompatibility problems of the used signal formats between the connected devices during conversion. Thus, you can rely on professional conversions with help of the MC1.1+.

Various operation modes enable the use of the MC1.1+ in many applications. Nearly every imaginable conversion between the involved formats is possible. Incoming digital audio signals are unidirectionally converted to four output formats at once, whereas every format offers two outputs for additional signal splitting. As for bidirectional format conversions, the MC1.1+ provides real double circuitries which, for the first time, allow converting the formats of two signals even with different sampling rates at the same time. A special splitting mode offers to actively split four individual input signals to their respective double outputs simultaneously. The SCMS status of S/PDIF signals can be monitored and adapted in every operations mode.

  • AES/EBU, AES/EBUid, and S/P-DIF optical/coaxial interfaces in one box
  • Unidirectional and bidirectional format conversions up to 192 kHz between AES3/AES3id and S/PDIF
  • Signal improvement and stabilization by low-jitter PLLs
  • Converts to all output formats simultaneously while allowing the original signal to pass through
  • Works as active signal splitter for AES3/AES3id and S/PDIF
  • Every interface standard offers two separately buffered outputs
  • Detects NONE-PCM and DTS bitstreams
  • SCMS processing and status analysing
  • User‘s settings will be stored after switching off
  • Simple user interface
  • Rack-space-saving 9.5“ housing
  • Built-in, internationally useable power supply

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I'm getting really low monitoring through headphones on this. even turned up to 10 and balanced to hear the preamp only. Does anyone else have this issue?

A: I haven't heard of this issue per-say. The first thing I'd look at would be the impedance specification on my headphones. If it's on the high side, I'd consider getting a headphone amp, or headphones with a lower impedance.

Q: 2. Can this be used as a 'bi-directional analog audio" send and receive with a Dante system?

A: The Audinate Dante AVIO 2x2 AES3/EBU I/O Adapter for Dante Audio Network allows you to connect analog audio gear to a Dante network with two channels in and two channels out .

Q: 3. Will this work as a headphone amp/ dac as well as microphone amp? Am wanting to improve sound from laptop to headphones

A: Do not understand what you mean with dac . If the purpose is to improve the laptop output, I suggest you look for something else, as this pre-amp was conceived for high quality Analog to Digital Conversion (ADC) from microphones. The headphone level you've got with this pre-amp is just for monitoring purposes during recording, thus the output level is quite comparable to what's provided by a laptop.

Q: 4. Is there a specific POE injector needed for this to work?

A: Dante AVIO adapters require a Power over Ethernet switch, or an 802.3af compliant PoE injector. Here is an option for a possible switch B&H # CISG35010K9, and injector BH #MIPD3501GAC.

Q: 5. Assuming the input is some form of Dolby surround, will the stereo output still have encoding necessary for my Denon AVR-1200 ProLogic receiver to generate ProLogic surround sound?

A: This unit decodes and reduces surround sound formats to analog stereo.

Q: 6. Hi! Could you please tell me what the diameter of the front and rear elements of this lens are? Close approximations are fine! Thank you!

A: This is not a published specificatiopn. Please contact the manufacturer directly please: Schneider: Tel: 800-228-1254 Email jsioringas@centuryoptics.com

Q: 7. How much audio power is delivered to earphone jack? Is this paralleled with the RCA jacks?

A: This is a passive box adding no amplification to the signal. The outpit to both the RCA and 3.5mm will be at line level.

Q: 8. Does this device require additional amplification prior to the main amp?

A: The Korg DS-DAC-10R 1-Bit USB Digital-to-Audio Converter would not require any additional amplification.

Q: 9. The manual doesn't have any info on the audio outputs, I assume they are Balance and Line level?

A: Yes, the audio inputs of the DIGITAL FORECAST X-MC Mini Cross Converter are balanced and line level.

Q: 10. does this come with a power supply?

A: The unit comes with a separate plug-in power supply.

[4.095 lb] For the money, this is a great little system. It plugs right into my Windows Vista computer with no issues, and Audacity recognized it without any problem at all. So far I have not had any complaints about the headphones being too quiet like I read in some reviews. But I use small in-ear earbuds, which could make a difference. I also bought this to use as a preamp with my Canon T2i. I have not tried out that functionality yet, but others have had good success. The phantom power works great using USB. Using the 9 volt battery power source added a slight bit of noise to the headphones. I have not tried recording while using the battery to see if it puts noise in the recording signal. I have been using it with an AKG c1000s microphone and have gotten very good results. The phantom power works great! I don't have the power adapter to use it as a standalone box, but having the three power sources available is very convenient. I especially like the USB power option as I primarily bought it for use with my computer. I have been using it as an external sound card and the sound is great out of it. It has stopped working a couple of times, and I had to unplug the USB cable and replug it. I'm not sure if that's my computer's fault or the box's fault. I am very happy with my purchase. It's all I need to basic recording and you really cannot beat the price or the power for the size.

[1] I bought this with the expectation that it likely would not do anything, and I'd return it. When I inserted it between my Sonos Port and a Denefrips Ares 2 DAC, however, I noticed an stark increase in dynamic range, to the extent that I had to turn my headphone amp down a bit. Through speakers, I noticed better imaging and placement, as well as better base.

I checked in with the DAC manufacturer to see if this could just be the result of the iFi potentially feeding a hotter signal than the Port. They said that was unlikely, and reducing jitter would indeed be helpful to improve the DAC's sound. Of course, Denefrips solution for that costs many times the iFi.

I'm keeping it, which surprised me. I expected only marginal improvements. The Sonos Connect was known to produce a lot of jitter. I had assumed the Port would improve on that, but perhaps not if I'm hearing such a jump from the iPurifier 2.

I'm sure this is all system dependent, but my experience is that it is worth trying, if you buy from a vendor with good return policies.

[1] This works with DAW on the ipad, allowing 2 channels, either as 2 x mono channels, or 1 stereo channel. It's silent and runs on a 9 volt battery, great for quality recording in the field. I think the output to headphones (used when multitrack layering) is a little weak, but at least that reduces the spill over to the recording microphone. B&H have the best price I could find.

[10 W] This device is well worth the cost!
I noticed immediately, a lower noise floor, better separation of instruments, deeper, wider soundstage. Highs are clean, without glare. Mids are clean and rich. Lows have more grip and well defined.
Well done iFi!

[Color LED] I really like this item, especially since my application for it is field and location recording and processing. Very portable and packs a bevy of features in a small case. Would like to have a firewire connection, but the USB works quite well.
