Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this mic work with the older Sony UTX-B2 transmitter?

A: The Sony ECM-77BMP features the 1/8 locking connector that would be compatible with the input jack on the UTX-B2 transmitter.

Q: 2. If you had to do it again, would you still buy this over the cos-11d?

A: The Sony ECM-77 Miniature Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone with Locking Sony 3.5mm Connector and Sanken COS-11D Lavalier Microphone are both high-quality, professional microphone choices. Selection between the two is mostly a matter of personal preference but can also be influenced by application, continuity, and compatibility.

Q: 3. Are there any pictures of this unit mounting on a desk. The [Overview] button is grayed out and there is no description for this boom. How does my Electro Voice RE320 shock mount fit on this boom?

A: Unfortunately those are the only photos we have. You can find more images on the OC White website. Your shock mount will mount to the broadcast arm with a standard 5/8" threaded stud.

Q: 4. What is this arm's max weight capacity when fully extended?

A: This is not a publsished specification. I would keep it under 5 lbs.

Q: 5. Is the 4-pin Hirose connector the same as a Sony 4-pin connector, for example on the DWT-B01 transmitter?

A: Yes, this mic is compatible with that Sony transmitter. It's pretty decent, too!

Q: 6. Can this attach to a standard light stand? Or do I need an attachment?

A: This is designed to fit a standard microphone stand.

Q: 7. Hello, Is this mic compatible with the UWP-D21 system?

A: Yes, the Sony ECM-77 Miniature Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone with Locking Sony 3.5mm Connector is compatible for use with the Sony UWP-D21 wireless system.

Q: 8. Could I swap out (substitute) this mike foe the lavalier that comes with the Sony UWP-D11 or D16 kit?

A: Please email us at a href= http://sales@bhphoto.com target= _blank sales@bhphoto.com/a for this type of request. Thank you.

Q: 9. Could this microphone also be used with the Tascam DR-70D?

A: Phantom power via the XLR jack ranges from 12v to 48v. The power required and delivered through mini jack connections is called Plug In Power' and is generally 1 volt to 10 volts. The Tascam is able to provide Plug In power through its mini jack mic input, however the ECM77BMP is designed for use with Sony wireless transmitters only. Not designed to connect to recorders. it has a locking connector that may not make full contact in a standard jack, and also may not be wired correctly.

Q: 10. I have a wireless lavalier mic system. The microphone is model sony emc77BMP and the receiver is sony wrt 805.It is not working well, since it catches a lot of interference when recording on longer distances that 30cm, and especially in the city, and as such the wireless part of the system is practically useless for me, but the lavalier mic is very good, and I want to connect it directly to my field-recorder a Tascam DR-40. The input in the recorder is XLR, while the lavalier has a jack (male). I need an adaptor from jack to XLR, and I am wondering about 2 things:1) The adaptor should be a jack (female) to a XLR (male), but is anything else needed, like a converter of electric tension between the lavalier and the field-recorder, or does the lavalier connect directly to the field-recorder?2) The field-recorder offers different settings for recording. One option is to record directly, and one option is to record using phantom-power. Which option should I use when connecting the lavalier directly to the field-recorder via an adaptor (omitting the wireless receiver and emitter system)?

A: The lav can plug directly into the DR 40. All you will need is a 3.5mm to XLR adapter and phantom power from the recorder. Then you can plug the lav directly into the XLR mic input on bottom of the DR 40. B&H # QUQAD2 see below.

[5 V] I just purchased 2 SONY ECM-77B microphones and they sound great. Last one I had lasted 30 years so as far as durability no worries. For a lav mic they are the workhorse of the broadcast industry. I would absolutely recommend them for anyone looking for a hard wired mic.

[5 V] I have been using these for years. Great size, the sound from the mic is great. I use these for all my interviews. Also, the capsule is very small so it doesn't look bad on camera. Highly recommend!

[5 V] I purchased 3 of these 77Bs from B&H 25 years ago and they are still going strong. I have absolutely no complaints. I have used them in the field most of the time for video production in all kind of conditions. I have used them for voice over work in the studio as well with clients even attached to a podium for my own audio feed. When I can I try to go wired because I have had some frequency issues with my wireless. My experience with the wired Sony ECM-77B has been the best over all these years. As I say, they are my GO-TO mikes.

[Brown] The Sony ECM/77 is one work horse of a microphone. You will find it in sets and studios all over the world!
What I love about it in addition to its bright clear vocal capture is its durability and shielding. Very un usual to have a buzz or 60 cycle him in these.
There is a reason this is an industry standard.
