Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. If you had to do it again, would you still buy this over the cos-11d?

A: The Sony ECM-77 Miniature Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone with Locking Sony 3.5mm Connector and Sanken COS-11D Lavalier Microphone are both high-quality, professional microphone choices. Selection between the two is mostly a matter of personal preference but can also be influenced by application, continuity, and compatibility.

Q: 2. Is this compatible with the Shure wired SM93 Preamp?

A: Yes, the SM93 preamp (part number 90A4360) is compatible with this microphone for use in wired applications. Please note, however, that for wireless use, the preamp will not be needed as it will be powered by your bodypack transmitter.

Q: 3. Can this mic be used with Sennheiser's EW series wireless transmitters?

A: This lavalier mic is designed specifically for SONY transmitters and is not compatible with Sennheiser EW or other transmitter body-packs. Consider the Tram TR50 , a professional omnidirectional electret condenser lavalier microphone with a low-profile design resulting in low visibility. The TR50 features a frequency response that enhances the character and frequencies associated with speech.

Q: 4. Could this microphone also be used with the Tascam DR-70D?

A: Phantom power via the XLR jack ranges from 12v to 48v. The power required and delivered through mini jack connections is called Plug In Power' and is generally 1 volt to 10 volts. The Tascam is able to provide Plug In power through its mini jack mic input, however the ECM77BMP is designed for use with Sony wireless transmitters only. Not designed to connect to recorders. it has a locking connector that may not make full contact in a standard jack, and also may not be wired correctly.

Q: 5. Is this mic compatible with a Shure wired model PGX1? The PGX1 has a 4 pin connection.

A: This microphone is compatible Shure wireless systems, including the PGXD1.

Q: 6. Is the 4-pin Hirose connector the same as a Sony 4-pin connector, for example on the DWT-B01 transmitter?

A: Yes, this mic is compatible with that Sony transmitter. It's pretty decent, too!

Q: 7. I would like to know about this connector, does that microphone come with 4-pin connector or just cable and microphone?

A: Hi Fabio, This version features a 4-pin Hirose connection. Regards, Erin

Q: 8. Will this shure TwinPlex TL48 work with rodelink?

A: Yes, the Shure TwinPlex TL48 Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone can be used with a RodeLink transmitter, but a Microdot adapter such as the Deity Microphones DA35 Microdot to Locking 3.5mm Adapter - Black (B&H # DEDA35) is needed to enable compatibility

Q: 9. Hello, which variety of this lav mic is compatible with the Sony uwp-d21 system? Or is it at all?

A: Here is a link to our selection of all of the compatible lavalier mics for the UWP-D21 system. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/accessories/Lavalier-Microphones-for-the-Sony-UWP-D21/1484178-REG-47940?from=detail

Q: 10. Does this mic require phantom power?

A: The Shure TwinPlex TL48 Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone requires only 5V, but to enable connection with an XLR input, the Shure RPM400TQG Wired TwinPlex Microphone Preamp is included, which does require phantom power to activate, but it does not allow phantom power to be passed through to the mic. The RPM400TQG converts phantom power to the proper amount of voltage that the mic requires.

[Brown] The station I work at has been using Sony Lavalier Mics forever and they have sounded great. We use this mic for a weekly 30 minute roundtable discussion held in the studio. This show is for broadcast and it always sounds great. I would highly recommend this mic.

[Plug-In Power] I've used the ECM-77B to record about 35 documentary-style interviews in the past year. I'm consistently impressed with the quality of recording it produces. I don't want to speak to its noisiness in any way because I think it varies depending on your setup, but I use it with a Tascam digital recorder and post-produce the audio in Audition with the iZotope noise correction VST. It feels like, no matter which boom mic I use, and no matter how much I post-produce a recording from another mic on the same set, the ECM-77B recording is always my #1 choice for dialogue tracks. Strongly recommended.

[Brown] I used the mic for the first time recently for an interview. Various clips are provided to make it easy to attach to any shirt. The windscreen is easy to affix to the mic. It sounded good during recording, but when I got it home and listened to the footage, it sounded amazing! I feel like I can count on crisp sound from now on. I bought an extension xlr, but the cable it comes with is quite long. Very good lav mic!

[Brown] I just purchased 2 SONY ECM-77B microphones and they sound great. Last one I had lasted 30 years so as far as durability no worries. For a lav mic they are the workhorse of the broadcast industry. I would absolutely recommend them for anyone looking for a hard wired mic.
