Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hello, Is this mic compatible with the UWP-D21 system?

A: Yes, the Sony ECM-77 Miniature Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone with Locking Sony 3.5mm Connector is compatible for use with the Sony UWP-D21 wireless system.

Q: 2. I would like to know about this connector, does that microphone come with 4-pin connector or just cable and microphone?

A: Hi Fabio, This version features a 4-pin Hirose connection. Regards, Erin

Q: 3. Well this boom work in other dual port headphones? I.e. Fostex TRP50s?

A: The RODE NTH-Mic Detachable Boom Microphone for NTH-100 Headphones BH #RONTHMIC is only for the headphones listed.

Q: 4. Do I need an adaptor to attach a Shure MV7 microphone to this mic stand?

A: No. You just unscrew the included mic clip and screw on the MV7.

Q: 5. Would this work on the Tentacle Track E?

A: The Sony ECM-77 lavalier mic is made for compatibility with Sony UWP transmitters. You would want to use something more like Voice Technologies VT500ECO [BH #VOVT0651] or the Sennheiser ME-2-II [BH #SEME2II] for compatibility with the TentacleSync Track E.

Q: 6. Is the 4-pin Hirose connector the same as a Sony 4-pin connector, for example on the DWT-B01 transmitter?

A: Yes, this mic is compatible with that Sony transmitter. It's pretty decent, too!

Q: 7. What is this boom arm's max weight capacity? The mic I want to use is roughly 3-3.5 lbs with the shock mount.

A: The manufacturer has not specified a maximum weight capacity, but the Auray MS-GIGBOOM is intended for use with lighter weight mics, like a traditional handheld style vocal mic. You may want to consider using something with better counterweight like the Ultimate Support Ulti-Boom Pro Telescoping Microphone Boom (B&H # ULTSMB) which has a 0.65 lb counterweight, or the Atlas Sound B2237 Platinum Design Series 37" Microphone Stand Boom (B&H # ATB2237) which has a 0.5 lb counterweight, or the Atlas Sound PB15EB Fixed-Length 34" Microphone Boom (B&H # ATPB15E) which has a 2 lb counterweight.

Q: 8. Does the boom arm unscrew from the clamp?

A: Yes, the Auray Telescoping Boom Arm Mic Stand with Table Clamp Mount can be unscrewed from the stem that attaches to the clamp and then used with a standard microphone stand. The stem can also be removed from the clamp by loosening the tension screw on the top of the clamp.

Q: 9. Could this microphone also be used with the Tascam DR-70D?

A: Phantom power via the XLR jack ranges from 12v to 48v. The power required and delivered through mini jack connections is called Plug In Power' and is generally 1 volt to 10 volts. The Tascam is able to provide Plug In power through its mini jack mic input, however the ECM77BMP is designed for use with Sony wireless transmitters only. Not designed to connect to recorders. it has a locking connector that may not make full contact in a standard jack, and also may not be wired correctly.

Q: 10. I have a wireless lavalier mic system. The microphone is model sony emc77BMP and the receiver is sony wrt 805.It is not working well, since it catches a lot of interference when recording on longer distances that 30cm, and especially in the city, and as such the wireless part of the system is practically useless for me, but the lavalier mic is very good, and I want to connect it directly to my field-recorder a Tascam DR-40. The input in the recorder is XLR, while the lavalier has a jack (male). I need an adaptor from jack to XLR, and I am wondering about 2 things:1) The adaptor should be a jack (female) to a XLR (male), but is anything else needed, like a converter of electric tension between the lavalier and the field-recorder, or does the lavalier connect directly to the field-recorder?2) The field-recorder offers different settings for recording. One option is to record directly, and one option is to record using phantom-power. Which option should I use when connecting the lavalier directly to the field-recorder via an adaptor (omitting the wireless receiver and emitter system)?

A: The lav can plug directly into the DR 40. All you will need is a 3.5mm to XLR adapter and phantom power from the recorder. Then you can plug the lav directly into the XLR mic input on bottom of the DR 40. B&H # QUQAD2 see below.

[Black] I have been using these for years. Great size, the sound from the mic is great. I use these for all my interviews. Also, the capsule is very small so it doesn't look bad on camera. Highly recommend!

[Omnidirectional] I've used the ECM-77B to record about 35 documentary-style interviews in the past year. I'm consistently impressed with the quality of recording it produces. I don't want to speak to its noisiness in any way because I think it varies depending on your setup, but I use it with a Tascam digital recorder and post-produce the audio in Audition with the iZotope noise correction VST. It feels like, no matter which boom mic I use, and no matter how much I post-produce a recording from another mic on the same set, the ECM-77B recording is always my #1 choice for dialogue tracks. Strongly recommended.

[5 to 50 V] I purchased 3 of these 77Bs from B&H 25 years ago and they are still going strong. I have absolutely no complaints. I have used them in the field most of the time for video production in all kind of conditions. I have used them for voice over work in the studio as well with clients even attached to a podium for my own audio feed. When I can I try to go wired because I have had some frequency issues with my wireless. My experience with the wired Sony ECM-77B has been the best over all these years. As I say, they are my GO-TO mikes.
