A: The PL mount is robust and meant to securely hold heavy lenses. This lens is not too heavy, only 4 lbs. However, I would not normally use this lens without support. The leverage created on the lens mount by the camera fighting the lens goes right to the lens mount, the most crucial adjustment on the camera. The mount and the lens are set to tolerances of plus minus 5 10,000 so you do not want strain that mount at all. If that adjustment is off, all your footage will be soft or the lens marks will be off as well. So if the camera and lens never move, you probably will be OK. But if you are moving, put a support under it.
