The 82mm UV/IR Cut Filter for Enhanced Photographyis an ultraviolet and infrared control filter that is useful for digital cinematography and still photography. While recording video with a CCD or CMOS camera, multi-stop neutral density filters are used to maintain proper exposure by compensating for increased light levels when widening the camera lens' iris to obtain a narrower depth of field. As the increased amount of light passes through multi-stop neutral density filtration, visible light is progressively blocked, while infrared light is allowed to pass through. As the proportion of infrared light that reaches the camera sensor becomes greater, the results can show unwanted color shifts, particularly in dark areas of the frame, such as shadows where the appearance of black is dominant.

When the Ice 82mm UV/IR Cut Filter is applied, ultraviolet light waves and infrared light waves are suppressed, helping to ensure that light falling on a camera sensor is limited to the visible spectrum. When used along with multi-stop neutral density filters, potential infrared color shifts are prevented or minimized, preserving color accuracy throughout the frame. This filter may also be used to help ensure that the appearance of unwanted blue casts is reduced while recording video or still photos under daylight that also features intense ultraviolet light.

This filter cuts UV rays below 390nm and above 750nm, providing 99.4% light transmission between 400-700nm. The front surfaces of the filter include seventy layers of interference coatings, which limit the light that falls on a digital camera sensor to the visible spectrum. This filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity and color fidelity. It features a lightweight and durable aluminum alloy filter ring with front threads for adding additional filters or accessories.

Filters out UV rays below 390nm and above 750nm

Provides 99.4% light transmission between 400-700nm

Suppresses ultraviolet light waves, reducing the bluish cast of daylight when recording video or still photos.

Useful with CCD or CMOS sensors to filter out infrared light pollution that causes color shifts frequently associated with high-definition recording with multi-stop neutral density filters.

Does not require exposure adjustment while in use.

Seventy layers of interference coatings on the front surface limit light that falls on a digital camera sensor to the visible spectrum.

Constructed from optical glass for clarity and color fidelity.

Plastic case included for storage and transport.

The 82mm front filter threads allow use with other filters to protect the front surface or combine with other effects.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Has anyone tried this on a full spectrum camera? I have a Nikon D7000 that’s converted to full spectrum and I’m looking for a filter to revert it back to visible spectrum when the need arises. Looking to see how the results are before I pull the trigger.

A: Unfortunately, we're not aware of any tests that have been performed with this particular filter on a camera which has been converted for full spectrum use. Your results may vary.

Q: 2. Hello. Does this filter have the same difficulty with wide-angle lenses that most multi-coated cut filters have? I.e., inconsistent, off-axis effectiveness/banding beyond ~ 60 degree FOV. Thanks in advance!

A: Yes, this Ice 77mm UV/IR Cut Filter has the same wide angle issues many filters have. The IR filtration makes no difference, as far as the wide angle effectiveness goes.

Q: 3. Can I use this with the nikon Z 24-70 F4? The nikon website lists diameter as 77.5.

A: The Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S Lens has a filter thread of 72mm. If you want to attach the filter directly to the lens with an adapter, you would want to get his option instead: https://bit.ly/3ujiIec

Q: 4. How is the 'protection' capability of this lens, if I'm looking to replace my protection/UV filters with this one? And does it have 8 coatings, or one on each side? I've heard conflicting descriptions.

A: The filter has one coating per side to help with reflections and protection of the glass.

Q: 5. Has anyone used this in combination with a pro mist filter? If so, what are the effects?

A: To our knowledge, this filter has not been tested in conjunction with a pro mist filter. Your results may vary.

Q: 6. Can another filter be attached to the front of this one? (I.e. so you have two circular 77mm filters on your lens at once.)

A: Yes. I have 2 of those filters and I just checked - they can be stacked.

Q: 7. Is this filter enough for taking photographs to a solar eclipse without damaging the camera?

A: No, you need a specialized solar filter. This is far from strong enough to aim at the sun for extended periods of time.

Q: 8. So, does this Digital Filter pretty much an even higher quality, more affective UV Filter?

A: Filters are made of the filter material, the glass it is in, the glass coatings and the metal ring. The higher the cost, the higher the quality of all materials and the better the optical result. After a point, however, it is like cars where you can get a comfortable Ford Focus (like Hoya) or a luxury BMW (like Heliopan.)

Q: 9. will this filter work on a Canon 400mm f5.6 lens? will the filter interfere with the bayonet hood on the lens?

A: If you are referring to this lens, Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens, you should be fine using that filter with the hood.

Q: 10. Does this sit furthest from the camera or closest to the camera when pairing with a Variable ND filter?

A: It really doesn't matter but typically a UV filter goes on the lens first.

[IR/UV Control] Hoya makes the best UV IR Cut filter. I must for all Blackmagic cameras. The first thing that gets put on a new lens is this filter.

[Multi Coated] This filter has greatly enhanced my photos of the night sky. I use a Canon EOS 6D Mark II that has a full spectrum modification and this filter helps reduce the red spectrum which makes the picture look more natural.

[Multi Coated] Most (or some) ir filters are too XTREME and cut out slightly visible reds. I have used these on some red weapon cameras and Sony cameras like A7sII and FS5/7. I know a lot of people don't shoot raw with FS5/7 but those cameras have a tough time with ir pollution when shooting raw and these filters are perfect. I shot a lot of athletic commercials last year and all that black synthetic material just radiates ir and looks purple on almost any camera. This helps keep them black and awesome looking.

[IR/UV Control] When used for astro photography, there is little lens distortion at the edge of field on an 90mm dia F4 scope / lens. Star roundness is more difficult to achieve as compared to regular day time photography. This lens is very usable and appears to be relatively uniform across the entire field of view at F4

[82 mm] The filter is a solid piece of glass. Top quality. Doesnt degrade 4k resolution lenses. Will buy a couple more for the rest of my lenses.
