A: iMac G5 computers had built-in optical drives. The Apple USB SuperDrive is compatible with Mac models from 2008 and later that don't have a built-in optical drive.

A: Definitely not. The iMac is too heavy. But it would fit nicely on the stand (right below the Apple logo).

A: My 1 1/2 old iMac running OS X El Capitan needed nothing else. I just plugged in the USB and I can watch DVDs or play CDs as well as copy to my hard drive if I wish. I am very happy with this unit.

A: The Apple USB SuperDrive BH #APMMD564LLA is probably the strongest built optical drive available since its aluminum. Most other drives are plastic and fragile. It doesn't break easily.

[USB-C Male] At first I bought a cheaper drive that started with R because disk players have been around for a long time and I didn’t see a reason to pay more just for a fancy housing that match my Mac. However….the no name brand would always stall without ripping any songs to Apple Music. I tried it on 3 different Macs. A Mac Studio M1, MacBook Pro M2 and an older MacBook Pro with an Intel chip in it. Nope wouldn’t work on any of them. So I tried it on a Windows machine with iTunes installed and it worked with no issues. Thinking it was a bug in the Apple software I called Apple and got them involved. I spend weeks with them and sent many data files to their engineers and I still haven’t received a solution from Apple. So I found this Apple SuperDrive at B&H and figured I’d give it a try, well guess what? It works perfectly with any hiccups. I’m not sure if Apple is still making this drive so if you can still get one do it soon. 5

[USB-A Female] This drive only works on newer Apple Computers. I had to purchase another DVD/CDW drive to work on my old iMac G-5 to replace the worn out drive built in the computer; I was lucky that B&H had that drive and it works fine. I had no problems with the Apple USB SuperDrive on my new computer and will keep when I replace the newer computer (7 years old now) as the new iMacs do not have a built in drive. 5

My old mini came with a superdrive installed/included. My new one didnt. So, I needed one and this unit now sits atop my new mini and does its job and now makes the new mini as good as the old one was. 5

[USB-C Male] The SuperDrive is not for everyone but if you still need to read or create CD/DVDs then this is a great looking drive that works great. The only problem is that the case doesn’t match the color of the new Mac Mini which is a great shade of Space Gray. There may be cheaper drives available but none will match the beauty of Apple’s drive. The price is modest. 5
