The paper has the look and feel of handmade paper and is produced using a specialized Japanese paper-making machine called a Tanmo machine. It has a unique inkjet coating with a wide color gamut and excellent color consistency, and the paper is acid free with no optical brighteners.

Q: 1. In anticipation of receiving this paper (I just ordered it), I went to Ilford's website to download the icc profile for my Canon ipf6400 printer (the description says "The paper is compatible with both dye and pigment based ink systems..." When I select the paper on Ilford's website and put in my printer and this paper combination there's no profile associated for this printer / paper combo. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

A: They may not have made a profile for the Canon IPF6400 printer. So in that case I would suggest using the closest Canon option. Canon Premium Fine Art Smooth.

Q: 2. Is this new paper the replacement of the now discontinued smooth super high gloss ? Does it have same characteristics or is it entirely new ?

A: Glossy inkjet is a type of paper that shines by nature. When light falls on such paper it is either reflected parallelly or at an angle. With metallic paper a sheet of mylar is kept between the printing paper and the emulsion. So there's no real comparison. Metallic is far superior for a 3D look. That being said Gloss doesn't change the image effect as does metallic and the colors can be a bit more accurate.

A: This has a 3 inch core.

Q: 4. Is Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl close to a matte finish?

A: No the Smooth Pearl is not close to a matte finish. It is closer to an off white Luster finish with a very dull shine.

Q: 5. On a Cannon Prograf 1000 what "paper type" should I register this as?

A: On the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 17" Professional Photographic Inkjet Printer the closest profile to Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl would be Canon Photo Paper Pro Luster.

A: No, the Canon PIXMA G7020 Wireless MegaTank All-in-One Printer is only rated up to 200 gsm, and the Ilford GALERIE Heavyweight Duo Matt Paper (8.5 x 11", 50 Sheets) is 310 gsm. So regardless of thickness, the weight itself won't work.

Q: 8. Using Canon PRO-100 printer. What setting should be used?

A: Call lIford Co and obtain the Icc Profile for the Canon Pro-100 Printer.I had to do this for the Epson 3880 printer. The RESULTS WERE GREAT!!!

Q: 9. Is the paper acid fast paper?

A: Ilford Galerie Prestige Smooth Gloss Paper is not a "fine art" paper so it is not acid free.

Q: 10. Can spray protectant be used on the surface after the ink drys? I love this paper but the surface is very delicate.

[110 gsm / 29 lb] I’m very happy with the quality of the prints using this paper and it is a great weight for Christmas cards, save the dates, and more. It is a little difficult to use my guillotine paper cutter due to the slight toothiness of the paper. 5

[0.355 lb] I wanted to try printing textured paper and decided to pick up some small sheets of this Washi Torinoka paper to experiment with. Am totally satisfied with the look and feel of this paper. The paper has a beautiful subtle texture that adds depth to whatever is printed on it. Though the paper feels thinner than typical photo paper, it has strength and feeds beautifully in my Canon Pro 1000 printer. It is lovely for toned B&W prints with a soft textured look. I tried printing a color image on this paper and while it worked, the color looks dull and washed out. Since I only wanted the paper for toned B&W prints, it's exactly what I was looking for. 5

[0.355 lb] Having welcomed Ilford photo papers for a good many years, I do not hesitate to continue to make them a part of my photographic pleasures. My recent order from B&H brought me two packs of 4by 6 Galerie sheets I am inserting in two photo albums I am creating for neighbors. I am able to print them here at home. [110 gsm / 29 lb] I have used Ilford photography products for 50 plus years. This company was saved by the brave action taken by employees to buy the business and made it successful again. They make superior products to their competitors and have been for many years. This paper is what I prefer when a smooth glossy paper is needed. You won't be disappointed and they provide an ICC profile for many oif the name brand printers model. 5
