The 24" x 49' roll of Ilford Galerie Washi Torinoko Fine Art Paper Rollis a paper with a traditional Washi Japanese base and a fine-textured surface.

The base, exclusively produced for Ilford, is manufactured using a traditional Japanese Tanmo machine which produces a paper so refined it looks like it has been handmade. The Washi base is made in the Echizen area of Japan, which is famous for the production of traditional Japanese paper with a history spanning over 1500 years in paper production.

Galerie Washi Torinoko has the unique Ilford inkjet coating that gives the final print a wide color gamut and excellent color consistency. The paper has a fine-textured surface, is acid free, has no optical brighteners, and is suitable for fine art reproduction.

Q: 2. Can spray protectant be used on the surface after the ink drys? I love this paper but the surface is very delicate.

Q: 3. Does this paper incorporate optical brighteners?

A: Manufacturer doesn't specify. What it sounds like, although it's acid-free it does have some brighteners for color stability.

Q: 4. Is the paper acid fast paper?

A: Ilford Galerie Prestige Smooth Gloss Paper is not a "fine art" paper so it is not acid free.

Q: 5. does anyone know which profile to use. there are two on the Ilford site n_GPSPP11_EPSpro7890_9890_PGPP250n and n_GPSPP12_EPSpro7890_9890_PGPP250n?

A: For this specific paper which is 310 gsm, you should use the 2nd one which is n_GPSPP12_EPSpro7890_9890_PGPP250n the first one GPSPP11 profile is for the same paper if it's 290 gsm. Ilford has in the past changed weights of papers therefore they have multiple profiles.

Q: 6. Does this replace Gold Mono Silk?

A: The Ilford GALERIE Gold Raster Silk Paper has the same surface and thickness as the Ilford GALERIE Prestige Gold Mono Silk Paper so it would be the nearest replacement.

Q: 7. Is this new paper the replacement of the now discontinued smooth super high gloss ? Does it have same characteristics or is it entirely new ?

A: Glossy inkjet is a type of paper that shines by nature. When light falls on such paper it is either reflected parallelly or at an angle. With metallic paper a sheet of mylar is kept between the printing paper and the emulsion. So there's no real comparison. Metallic is far superior for a 3D look. That being said Gloss doesn't change the image effect as does metallic and the colors can be a bit more accurate.

Q: 8. Does this paper use Epson Matte Black or Photo Black ink?

A: This paper will work with either of those inks.

Q: 9. How many pounds is this paper? Do you think it will go through the Canon Pixma Pro9000 mark ii?

A: This paper is 13mil or 310 gsm. It is within the thickness tolerance for the p9000 II.

Q: 10. Can someone who has printed extensively on Gold Fibre Silk describe any differences between that and this new Gold Fibre Gloss paper other than the heavier weight? Is paper base around the same level of white? Is the surface any different looking/feeling?

A: Both papers are about the same level of white. The only difference is the thickness.

[4.25 lb] This is an excellent matte paper with enough weight to call fine art paper. It has a very smooth surface. My auto cut worked without issues. I am impressed with the color rendering (my printer setting was "High"). I have not printed B&W or Grayscale on it yet but I expect good results because this paper handles contrast very well. 5

[90%] Worked well for my college photography class! Paper eventually loses it pictures after time but that is common with this kind of paper. Makes good prints, just dont expose it to ANY light whatsoever. 5

[Matte] I have worked for years in the Photographic industry for many years. When I started out it wase for Newspapers, and Magazines. They demanded GLOSSY PRINTS. I STRONGLY DISLIKE THEM! I CHOSE THIS PAPER AS IT PROVIDES A BEAUTIFUL TONAL RANGE! 5

[1x Paper Roll] i bought this paper because it offered one of the best options in the market for large format prints. its a 310 gsm paper, its heavy enough to be manipulated without any problem considering large pieces of printed paper, thats what i was looking for initially. tone gradation its perfect for me. black in settle down very good in this paper. its surface is smooth and slightly textured, though not as present as in other papers by canson, innova or hanemhulle..... the price is just right for this product.... i like rc paper because i want to keep my framing option open as in the case i want to glue the paper to aluminum support or metacrilate plates, RC paper is the best option in this case..... Ilford in my opinion has better offers than epson paper, besides its a much more well reputed manufacturer 5

[110 gsm] I was looking for a paper with an even more earthy feel, Bamboo is a heavy paper, beautifully colored with a fair amount of texture. Simply lovely! It’s a must have for your projects. 5

[Matte] I wanted to try printing textured paper and decided to pick up some small sheets of this Washi Torinoka paper to experiment with. Am totally satisfied with the look and feel of this paper. The paper has a beautiful subtle texture that adds depth to whatever is printed on it. Though the paper feels thinner than typical photo paper, it has strength and feeds beautifully in my Canon Pro 1000 printer. It is lovely for toned B&W prints with a soft textured look. I tried printing a color image on this paper and while it worked, the color looks dull and washed out. Since I only wanted the paper for toned B&W prints, it's exactly what I was looking for. 5

[4.25 lb] I had previously used papers with inferior weight and was primarily inclined towards this paper because of its heavy weight. Well, it turns out that this paper has so much more to offer than just it's heavy weight. I love the pearl satin finish it offers and the Dmax and color gamut are very impressive on my Epson 6000. 24x36 prints are easy to handle because of the heavy weight. 5
