Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this be connected directly to an xlr cable without a base? I bought a similar mic before but it won't work unless it is connected to its base.

A: Yes- it can connect directly. However, you wouldn't be able to stand it up as you can guess.

Q: 2. So it's powered by the cameras battery?

A: I think dynamic microphones do not use any power source. They're similar to phonograph cartridges in that way.

Q: 3. Does it require phantom power?

A: Yes. The Audio-Technica AT4053b Hypercardioid Condenser Microphone BH #AUAT4053B requires 48V phantom power.

Q: 4. What adapter or cable would I need to plug this into a 3.5mm (mini) recording device / PC?

A: You can use a 3.5mm TRS to 1/4" TS adapter such as the C2G 3.5mm Stereo Male To 6.3mm Mono Female Adapter (B&H #CA40635) or Hosa Technology 1/4" TS Female to 3.5mm TRS Male Adapter (B&H #HOASMMPFQ).

Q: 5. I have a Canon r600 camcorder, does this mic require Phantom power or does it use batteries as i am unsure if the port allows for Phantom power.

A: This is a dynamic handheld mic that requires no phantom power.

Q: 6. Do I need phantom power or a audio mixer for this mic?

A: This is a dynamic microphone and by design requires no phantom or external power.

Q: 7. Can I use this for music vocals? I would like to use it with my iRig DuoPro and travel guitar. It has the correct plugs but how about sound quality? I need something for practicing not for stage or recording. I currently use a Sharp over ear mounted mic with Bose noise canceling headphones but that is too much attached to my head to be comfortable.

A: The sound quality from the mic is pretty good, not up to specs as proper performance mics, but certainly better than your average bluetooth headset. It is primarily used for broadcast, so it does have a professional quality.

Q: 8. what kind of devices can I plug my atr-1100 microphone into?

A: The Audio Technica ATR 1100 is a dynamic handheld mic that requires no power in order to operate and can be connected to almost any device that accepts a 1/8 or 1/4 mic jack. This includes PA systems, camcorders, voice recorders, etc.

Q: 9. Does this work for any DSLR? I have the Nikon D3100.

A: The Audio-Technica ATR1300 is a dynamic mic which requires no external powering. This makes it widely compatible with devices that feature mic input capabilities. This is true for DSLRs as well as portable audio recorders and similar devices. Unfortunately the Nikon D3100 specifically, does not offer an external mic input jack and would not be able to this or external mics in general.

Q: 10. How is the noise compared to a boom mic?

A: A mic like the AT4053b would be recommended for indoor dialog capture. The pickup pattern is wider than a traditional shotgun, however for indoor were there are many reflective surfaces, this is a benefit as compared to a more directional mic.

[0.405 lb] The sound is great the form factor is great but it would have been good to have a longer cord by a few feet

[0.405 lb] We were looking for a mic that would work with vocals and instruments for Old Time and Bluegrass bands. This mic is better than we dreamed. Easy to balence. Works great with our small mixer. Great price, great product!

[Plug-In Power] Can't believe how long it took me to learn that shotguns aren't a good choice for interior dialogue. Upgraded to the 4053b from an NTG 2 and haven't looked back.

[Plug-In Power] I have been in search of a headset to do live sports for some time. I tried several head sets (many higher priced than this one) and I could never get them to just work out of the box. My past experiences with microphones had always led me to phantom powered mics and that was the direction I had taken for this mic to start with. Turns out the dynamic mic was the best solution for my situation. I will not overlook dynamics again. I am using this mic with a Peavey PV 6 BT with a USB connection to the computer to interface with Wirecast.
