The 138mm Tiffen 12 Yellow Filter 138mmfrom Tiffen 12 Yellow Filter 138mmis a filter designed to increase contrast and tonal separation for black and white photography. The filter absorbs blue colors, rendering blues darker. Haze is minimized for aerial photography and excessive blue is removed for astrophotography. The #12 Yellow Filter is recommended as a basic filter for use with Kodak's Aero Ektachrome Infrared Film. The filter has a filter factor of 2, so you must increase by 1 full stop to your exposure to compensate.

Tiffen filters are not dyed, but are manufactured by using ColorCore technology. This process laminates the filter material between two pieces of optical glass and grinds down and polishes the glass. The glass is then mounted to the metal ring, which after that can be screwed onto the lens for the desired effect.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. does this fit the p series cokin holder which is 52 mm? Is there a higher stop nd filter up to 10 stops {like the lee big stop nd filter) in cokin, lee or tiffen that will fit my p series filter holder from cokin?

A: The Tiffen Cokin P Neutral Density (ND) 0.9 Glass Filter will fit in the Cokin P filter holder. All of the Cokin P filter holders are the same size, and accommodate any filter designed for the Cokin P system. We carry several 10-stop ND filters for the Cokin P filter holder. You can find those on the following link. http://bhpho.to/1f0KEmy

Q: 2. Can this filter be combined with the Tiffin 77MM variable ND filter to become a super stopper like lens?

A: I suppose it's possible if you put this on the lens first and the variND after but I can't imagine why you would want to. The coatings on this filter aren't very good and there'd be some loss in sharpness, not to mention weird color shifts.

Q: 3. What's the difference between double fog 3, and just regular double fog, strength of effect?

A: Tiffen Double Fog comes in various strengths. The higher the number, the stronger the effect. Double Fog 3 is the strongest strength.

Q: 4. can i use this for infrared colour film?

A: Unless you are using Kodak Aero Ektachrome Infrared film, using this filter will have little impact on your images.

Q: 5. I would like to use this with sony sel24f11.4gm can i still use lens hood with this attached e.g whats total diameter?

A: This filter will be no wider than your lens is. You should have no issue attaching a lens hood via bayonet or screw in methods.

Q: 6. Will this filter (Tiffin 4x4 1.6 ND) fit in a Cokin holder? Buyers say it won't fit in a Lee holder and Specs don't list thikness dimensions.

A: The filter is 4mm thick. Lee filters makes filter guides that are 4mm thick. The foundation kit does not supply that guide. The link for that guide is a href= http://bhpho.to/1iXS5y5. target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1iXS5y5./a

Q: 7. Hi!Can the 0.9 and 0.6 Tiffen ND filters be stacked with the B+W ND filters and circular polarizer filters?Additionally, since this Tiffen filter does not have any form of coating on it, what are the effects of that?Thank you!

A: As long as the B+W filters in question have 52mm filter threads on the front of the filter, you would ba able to attach the Tiffen 52mm 0.6 Neutral Density Filter and the Tiffen 52mm 0.9 Neutral Density Filter to the front of the filter. The main issue that may arise from the filter not having coatings would be the chance of obtaining more internal flare or glare from using the filter. However, as such, I would recommend using your lens hood to reduce the occurrence of glare or flare.

Q: 8. Why is the filter so inexpensive? Is it just the small size?

A: Price is based upon the size of the filter. 52mm is one of the smaller sizes and is thus priced less than filters for larger thread sizes.

Q: 9. Anyone know the weight of this filter in Grams?

A: 13.3 grams. I use it on my DJI X5 camera with the Olympus 12mm lens, and it balances perfectly. But I want a lighter .9 ND to use with my Olympus 25mm and the Sun shade.

Q: 10. I want take water falls is this ND 0.9 (3 stop) capable ? for water fall? Or I need more darker ND filter what do you suggest?

A: The best ND filter for photographing Waterfalls will vary based on the shooting conditions and the effect you are looking to achieve. By experimenting you will discover what works best for you. A 3-Stop ND filter is a good place to start. I would suggest getting a Circular Polarizer as well. A Circular Polarizer will reduce reflections off the water, and block some light as well. Here is a link where you can find Circular Polarizers on our site. https://bhpho.to/3xMEALl

[0.4 lb] Have always purchased Tiffen filters. In my opinion thay are the best filters out there. Great glass and dyes. I have Tiffens that are over 30 years old and still are as good as the day I purchased them.

[0.4 lb] I like a #12 or #15 for a lot of my shots. Tiffen is good for the price.

[Single Coated] I use this when shooting color infrared film. I also use a #25 red filter and an orange filter. The yellow one gives me the typical blue/red/white hues of color infrared, the orange filter turns more to the magentas, whereas the red filter turns things towards the green hues.

[0.4 lb] Converting color digital captures just does not lend itself to thinking in B&W while shooting. With the #12 minus blue filter, I can shoot as I used to do with film. Using SilverEfex or Exposure, I then convert the color digital capture directly into a B&W photo.
