The highly flexible TASCAM Model 24 is a powerful, versatile, hybrid mixer/recorder/audio interface for both live and recording applications, well suited for bands, studios, conferences, podcasts, houses of worship, and more. The full-featured professional mixer offers 22 input channels including 16 microphone preamps with phantom power, two 1/4" Hi-Z jacks, 12 balanced 1/4" mono line inputs, and four balanced 1/4" stereo line inputs. Additionally, the last stereo input also accepts signals from a variety of sources including Bluetooth, USB, RCA, or a 3.5mm stereo mini jack.

There is single-knob compression available on the first 12 channels, while three auxiliary sends provide signal routing to a dedicated monitor and to one of 16 onboard multi-FX effects. The main and sub stereo buses offer simple grouping, as well as a selectable 7-band graphic EQ for fine tuning your mix. The Model 24 offers 21 faders, with 100mm of throw for quick and immediate mixing moves. Each channel may be assigned to receive audio from the live inputs, the internal multitrack recorder, or the USB 2.0 audio interface, allowing for versatility in any environment.

The onboard 24-track recorder takes its cue from TASCAM's Portastudio line, offering multitrack recording with the ability to record 22 tracks plus the stereo master internally. Multichannel playback for advanced live performance backing or mixing. What's more, the simple interface allows you to punch in/out of recording and playback without extensive menu diving. Additionally, the Model 24 features a 22 x 24 USB audio interfaced allowing for the transmission of 22 input channels plus the stereo master at up to 24-bit/48 kHz resolution.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is phase reverse available on all channels?

A: No. there is not phase reverse available. Reading through the Owners Manual, see below and on page 21: https://tascam.com/downloads/products/tascam/model_24/efs_model-24_om_vc.pdf

Q: 2. Does the Model 12 have USB delay for syncing to video like the Mixcast does?

A: Yes, firmware version 1.20 adds dual Audio Delay for both the USB and Main outputs of the Tascam Model 12 Integrated Production Suite Mixer/Recorder/USB Interface.

Q: 3. When 48V Phantom Pwr is employed, does feed all inputs? Any protection for Dynamic mics?

A: Yes; Phantom power is supplied to all XLR Mic inputs. Protection is built-in for Dynamic Mics.

Q: 4. What is the max gain on the mice preamp?

A: 50dB

Q: 5. Does this (and the other Models) record post fader for individual tracks to the SD card? The manual mentions a "post record switch" and "When this switch is on, signals from after the MAIN fader are recorded to the SD card." That's all the info in the manual about this feature. I need to know if this switch allows recording of each channel post fader to the SD card.

A: The Tascam Model 12 Integrated Production Suite Mixer/Recorder/USB Interface appears to standardly record "pre-fader" signals to the SD card. This indicates that the signal at the input source is being recorded before it is affected further down the signal chain by EQ and individual fader level settings. There are ways to change this, such as the "POST REC Switch" you mention, which would indicate a post-fader recording of each channels "mix" level signal. The manual also mentions the ability to select the positions that recording signals are sent from each channel, including the ability to send Pre or Post Compression and Post EQ.

Q: 6. Can two of these be chained together into a PC for more channels during multi-track recording?

A: No, it would not be possible to connect multiple USB mixers to one computer for a single recording.

Q: 7. Does the talkback feature work as a broadcast mixer?

A: The Talkback function on the TASCAM Mixcast 4 Podcast Mixer, Recorder, and USB Audio Interface allows you to speak to the participants privately over their headphones, as well as guests connected via USB, smartphone, and Bluetooth.

Q: 8. Would I need mic activator for Shure am 58 or Shure sm7b?

A: You will need a cloud lifter for the SM7B

Q: 9. Can you send to an external effects processor and get back the wet signal for your recording?

A: You can use the analog FX output to connect an external FX processor to this mixer. For returning the wet signal to mixer, you would need to use an available input channel on the board.

Q: 10. Is phase reverse offered on all the channels?

A: No phase reverse shown on any channels, or in the Operator Manual.

[28.7 lb] Before the Model 12 I used the Model 24 a lot. Sometimes I found myself using very few inputs on the Model 24 but then having to still carry around a huge mixer. It got inconvenient. Then I got a Model 12 and it has been a life saver! Still packs a good punch like the bigger mixer but with a smaller footprint. Travels nicely as well!

[28.7 lb] I've used other brands of podcast mixers before and TASCAM's Mixcast 4 is by far the easiest.

Whether you're an amateur or a pro, the Mixcast 4 is extremely user-friendly. You can plug and play using the default settings (which are actually pretty decent straight out of the gate) or you can add compression, noise gating, or a couple other useful tools.

The pads are really easy to load or sync from your computer too; there are even more banks than I ever had with the competitor's unit.

TASCAM really outdid themselves on this one. Cheers!

[28.7 lb] This is their best one yet!!  Solid build, excellent sound and it’s learning curve is minimal. A lot of recorder for this amount of money. Everything is silky smooth with this machine. My favorite Tascam purchase ever. Hats off to them for this one.  Highly recommend, period.

[28.7 lb] I'm a journalist who records voice overs and many interviews, both over phones and via Zoom, in a home studio. I've used the Rodecaster Pro, Rodecaster Pro II, Focusrite Vocaster 2 and now the Tascam Mixcast 4. For my work, I prefer the Tascam device over the others. The Rodecaster Pro II would work fine one minute and need a re-set the next. It was too complex and not reliable enough for my work.

The Tascam does it all for me and is rock solid reliable. It it built well and the latest software is very stable and intuitive. I like having separate Bluetooth and hard-wired mobile phone interface. All the features are naturally laid out and easier to use than the other devices.

Though the included DAW is nice, I tend to use stereo files sent to the desktop of my iMac. At the $299 B&H price, this device is very cost effective and an excellent performer.

[28.7 lb] Tried and true. The Mixcast 4 is a beast,...user friendly, and an absolute contender for it's competitor. The bundle package is the best option (imo) to go with, particularly if you want to have the full set up day one.

[28.7 lb] The mixer is very easy and quick to set up, feels solid and well made, and can work for a many different types of projects. I set mine up for a podcast in under ten minutes with limited knowledge on audio mixers, so it is very intuitive and the multi-track recording made it very easy to edit and publish.

[28.7 lb] I thoroughly shopped before choosing an interface, consulting with sound pros. They convinced me that I would not be disappointed with this purchase and they're right!

[28.7 lb] First of all, great service by B&H as this unit arrived in one day, and they had great pre-sale support when I had questions about recording times and other features. I am using this mixer/recorder with my live band, and I love this thing! It is super easy to work, and it sounds great (very warm sounding and “punchy”). The main reason that I got this unit was for the built-in MULTI-TRACK recorder. Lots of mixers have a two track recorder, but this is the only one that I know of that allows you to record each individual channel. You can quickly re-mix and re-balance the recording to create a great sounding live mix. I have to say that it is the first time in my 15-year career as a live performer that I have actually gotten a “board tape” that sounds good! Keep in mind that you can do this WITHOUT a computer!! If you want to use a computer (or if you want to take tracks off of Pro Tools or something) and then re-mix them through the board, you can do that, but I have been able to make great sounding live recordings without dragging my laptop to the gig (a very good thing in my opinion). I also really like the on-board one knob compressor (although it can sound a bit “squashed” if you push it too hard). The built-in effects sound great (would like more choices, but what they do have is very useable). All in all, I’m very happy with the sound quality and especially the ease of use.
