This 82mm Soft-Edge Graduated ND Filter 82mm 3-Stophelps darken specific areas of an image while allowing for a normal, unaffected exposure in the other parts. The filter is densest at the edge and tapers to clear by the middle, with a soft-edged line of transition between the two areas. This filter is particularly useful for images that do not have a strongly defined transition between the sky and foreground.

The filter features glass optics and an aluminum filter ring threaded on both sides. A rotating ring allows precise positioning of the gradation along the horizon line.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. So is this filter ISO 12312-2 (also written as ISO 12312-2:2015) certified?

A: Yes it is: https://hoyafilter.com/product/prond100000/

Q: 2. If I put a Moment 72mm VND filter(2 to 5-Stop) on a Sony Zeiss Vario-Tessar T* FE 16-35mm F4 ZA OSS lens, will the vignetting appear at 16mm?

A: Yes vignetting is likely to appear since Moment 72mm Variable Neutral Density 0.6 to 1.5 Filter is thick and that lens is very wide and if you are using that lens on a full frame camera.

Q: 3. Can one place the 77 mm Hoya CPD-77ND100000 ND filter over a 77mm Hoya UV filter, and in so doing protect the sensor further from UV? There may be slight vignetting, but if shooting an eclipse that will not matter.

A: Yes you could do this. That way you protect the Sensor more. That shouldn't be an issue. You just might have a slight Vignette.

Q: 4. Does it meet viewing specification for safety?

A: The Hoya 77mm ProND-100000 Neutral Density 5.0 Solar Filter (16.6 Stops) BH #HOND10000077 • MFR #XPD-77ND100000 will protect a cameras sensor but not the human eye: SAFETY FIRST: Observing the Sun without the proper protection may result in serious personal injury, including permanent eye damage and blindness, and/or damage to equipment. Never point an optic at the sun without an approved solar filter on the front of the optic. For direct solar viewing, viewing the sun through an optic, or when using cameras with an optical viewfinder, ensure your filter is ISO 12312-2 (also written as ISO 12312-2:2015) certified. Never use photographic neutral density filters for direct solar viewing, viewing the sun through an optic, or when using cameras with an optical viewfinder.

Q: 5. Will you need to remove this filter during the total eclipse to see & photograph anything?

A: Yes, solar filters are designed for shooting the entire sun and partial eclipse phases. You will need to remove the filter during totality to photograph the corona. If you also want to photograph Bailey's beads and the diamond ring effect, you will want to remove the filter about 20-30 seconds before totality begins and replace it about 20-30 seconds after totality ends. This will not damage your camera equipment. Another answer implied that it is safe to view the eclipse through your camera's optical viewfinder with this filter in place, but that is NOT the case. This filter is NOT certified for visual observation. Place a viewfinder cover or a piece of tape over your optical viewfinder as a precaution, and only use live view to focus and compose your frames.

Q: 6. Does The Hoya XPD-77ND100000 ND Filter also filter UV and IR, or does it act only on visible light?

A: It is not a UV or IR filter. It is just neutral density.

Q: 7. What does MRC mean?

A: MRC on the B+W MRC Nano Master #803 ND0.9 Filter (72mm) stands for Multi Resistant Coating Besides protecting the filter it helps with reducing flair.

Q: 8. Does this kit includes the magnetic ring?

A: SLR Magic 82mm Solid Neutral Density Filter Kit is not magnetic. The filters are attached by screwing them onto the filter ring of your lens.

Q: 9. Hi there. I would like to know if filter Hoya 67mm Prond-100000 Densidad Neutra 5.0 Solar Filtro (16. Is ok for nikon P900 ???

A: Yes, the Hoya ProND-100000 Neutral Density 5.0 Solar Filter (67mm, 16.6-Stop) will work with a Nikon P900 camera.

[0.1 lb] I used to use a knock-off to the Cokin filter system on my Nikon D600. Although I had tons of graduated filters (including colored grad filters), it was just a hassle to install the filter holder, then insert a filter, etc. This screw-on graduated ND filter goes on and comes off in 30 seconds, so it's a big improvement in how easy it is to use. Got some great shots of the Hawaiian sunsets with it.Only downside is if you choose to stack a circular polarizer and this graduated ND filter, then my lens (a Tamron SP 24-70mm f2.8) sees vignetting in the four corners of the frame. But, this isn't really the due to this filter, just the field of view on my lens, so I can't fault this filter for this problem.

[0.1 lb] The soft edge works really well. You can't see a delineation between dark and light in your photos. In the mountains the contrast between light and dark is drastic even as the sun just peaks over the horizon so the 3-stop works very well in these circumstances.

[Aluminum] This filter has been great on my recent trip to the mountains. In the past, I've had to deal with all the normal issues - over exposed clouds, under exposed mountain sides, you name it. This filter has really helped me keep the details in both the sky and the mountains that really help me show the unbelievable beauty of the area.

[Glass] Taking pictures of a beautiful sky and sun before dusk with field of corn in the foreground that at the time was a dark green - could not get correct exposure without this filter- rides on my workhorse Zeiss 18mm 3.5 from B&H
