The Rupert Neve RMP-D8 8-Channel Dante Mic Preampis an 8-channel Dante microphone preamplifier designed to deliver classic Neve tone, high-resolution A/D conversion, and reliable Dante network integration for recording and mixing engineers in broadcast, houses of worship, and live stage applications. The eight Class-A mic preamps, which offer up to 60 dB of gain in 1 dB increments, are paired with custom Rupert Neve Designs transformers. Mic or line inputs can be utilized via the eight XLR-1/4" combo jacks. Mastering-grade converters operate at up to 24-bit/192 kHz resolution and feed digital signal simultaneously to dual Dante network ports and four 2-channel AES XLR outputs.

Each channel features selectable 48 VDC phantom power, polarity, a -10 dB pad, and an 80 Hz high-pass filter. RMP-D8 parameters can be viewed and adjusted locally via the large OLED display and front-panel controls, or remotely over the network. Built with touring in mind, the RMP-D8 boasts a reinforced steel chassis, redundant international power supplies, and latching IEC power cables.

The heart of the RMP-D8 lies in the modular mic preamp cards featuring Mr. Rupert Neve's custom transformer designs. Unlike other integrated Dante mic preamp designs that rely primarily on a single IC for gain & tone, each channel on the RMP-D8 has a fully-realized class-A microphone preamplifier feeding a custom transformer, maintaining the high standards of Rupert Neve Designs' standalone preamplifiers.

Where converters are often an afterthought on combination devices, the 24-bit/192 kHz converters in the RMP-D8 are a product of years of careful listening. The precision-controlled internal clocking and enhanced jitter reduction enable capture of the full breadth of performance from the mic preamplifiers. Pull-up and pull-down rates are supported in addition to standard sample rates up to 192 kHz.

Two rear-panel RJ45 network ports accommodate primary and secondary Dante connections. When properly configured, device operation and signal transmission will continue in the event of a primary network failure. The selectable Gain Compensation mode mirrors the primary outputs with a -6 dB offset to deliver clean safety channels in case of clipping on the main Dante outputs. Additionally, the RMP-D8 is compatible with the Dante Virtual Soundcard and Dante Via for direct computer integration.

The dual power supplies are reliable and capable of operating anywhere in the world. The included IEC power cables feature a latching design to inhibit accidental disconnects.

The reinforced steel chassis grants enhanced RF shielding and rugged reliability, making it ideal for use in challenging environments such as arenas, clubs, and concert venues.

Operate the RMP-D8 locally via its large OLED display, easy-to-read meters, and convenient front-panel controls. Alternatively, configure and adjust the RMP-D8's parameters via the available software application, which can be used remotely over the network.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. The description is ambiguous. Is this an analog to digital converter? Are the input connectors RCA or XLR?

A: Yes it is. It is also an audio interface. This is a list of the inputs and outputs:2 x combination XLR-1/4 inputs2 x 1/4 TRS line inputs, phone type1 x 5-pin DIN MIDI input1 x 5-pin DIN MIDI output2 x 1/4 TRS main outputs, phone type1 x 1/4 headphone output, phone type1 x 5-pin DIN MIDI output

Q: 2. What is the EIN of this unit in dBu? I can't find the specs anywhere

A: At this time, that spec is not provided by the manufacturer.

Q: 3. Is the Art TubeOpto configured for 230 V when it's sent to Europe?

A: I had the Art TubeOpto sent to Australia and it was not configured for 240 V so I am using a power transformer to use it.

Q: 4. Is the case metal or plastic? Any RFI suppression built in?

A: Works Great. Metal case. I used it with an ethernet adaptor and was able to send the audio signal through a schools cat5 wiring for their school PA System.

Q: 5. Can this be re-purposed to be used from an XLR out from the back of my amp (Peavy Vypyr Pro 100) to patch headphones in to monitor the signal being sent from the amp to the mixer board on the bands PA system?

A: If your amp is a XLR Mic level output yes. It will take Line level out also but it will take much less boost to power the headphones. If it is speaker level out you may blow out the preamp.

Q: 6. What would be the best way to connect a Focusrite Scarlett Solo to the Neve?

A: The Scarlett Solo features unbalanced outputs. Connection from the outputs to the Neve RNHP headphone amp would be via RCA cable. From the headphone jack of the Solo would be an alternative. In this case the 3.5mm jack would be the most closely matched connection.

Q: 7. I've seen reviews say that this doesn't come with a power supply. Is that true?

A: This interface comes with a power supply.

Q: 8. Needing a amplified microphone to do voiceover on live dvd recording?

A: You don't need it, but a pre amp is a good idea!

Q: 9. Will this work to power and amplify a condenser mic fed into a 3-way line splitter, specifically a Whirlwind SP1X3LL?

A: The Rolls MP13 is able to power a condenser mic and the output can be connected to a splitter such as the Whirlwind SP1X3LL. The MP13 however only offers 36v of phantom power and would not be recommended for mics who require a full 48v. Many mics are able to operate at a range of voltages from 9v - 52v and you should check your mics requirements before purchase.

Q: 10. Can this be used in place of a mic activator, such as a cloud lifter ?

A: Yes, you can use the TubeOpto instead of a Cloudlifer. The TubeOpto can be used with dynamic and condenser microphones while the Cloudlifter is specifically for use with dynamic mics. The Cloudlifer has a passive design that uses phantom power from the mic input you connecting to and can add up to 25 dB of clean gain. The TubeOpto does much more than just add clean gain since it is fully featured tube-based mic preamp. Its eight channels each have their own input and output gain controls which can add up to 70 dB of clean gain as well as additional features to shape the sound.

[-10 dB] The sound is crystal clear and this headphone amp reveals nuances that are simply necessary for critical listening. Further, the unit is rock solid with a small footprint, and flexibility options.

[110 dB] Works as advertised, very pleased. I tried it with my Electro-Voice 635A handheld mic, which does not have power or audio adjustment settings, so it's levels are often too low. This Polsen inline XLR preamp boosted my volume from the mic and did not cause any noise or distortion from what I can tell. If you look at the pictures I uploaded, you can see the difference in volume with and without this preamp. As you can see it was pretty significant. This will be handy when I need to boost the volume without raising the gain internally in the camera. [I have received this product in exchange for my honest review]

[8] The Rupert Neve DI shows, again, why Mr Neve deserves his reputation. This DI manages to combine astonishing clarity with a rich, lush musicality that allows breath and life into the signals it passes, making other high end DIs - including several equipped with Jensen transformers - seem somewhat pedestrian by comparison. Apart from the superior sonics, the RNDI offers flexibility, being switchable for instrument or speaker levels, allowing it to capture either the input or output signals of an instrument amplifier. Not only does it sound better than other DIs, it also offers more options than most. Last but not least, it is build very solidly. It's not as light or compact as some DIs' but it appears to be extremely robust. And it looks good as well.

[-10 dB] This amp blew my socks off. I purchased this amp to use with my Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro(250 ohm) headphones. The instant I plugged them into this amp I was blown away. The sound is so clean that I heard detail in songs that I hadn't heard before. I use this for mixing and hearing all this detail has really improved my mixes. I love this amp!

[5.5 kOhms] If this was being marketed for the Non Pro Audio home listener Market only, you'd have to pay a good bit more for this kind of detailed Headphone sound.
