[5/8"-27 Male] I know that these stands are considered to be drum miking stands, but I use them in my studio as desktop mic stands and they work like a dream. I use heavy broadcast mics with shock mounts, and the usual run-of-the-mill desktop stands are way too wimpy to hold the weight without tipping over. That is NOT the case with this Atlas stand. It will hold my RE-20 in a shock mount, but it will ALSO support the significant added weight of a large reflexion filter that I use sometimes. I'm really impressed with the quality of Atlas products, and now I wouldn't use any other brand. I have 2 of these stands, and just ordered another Atlas floor stand from B & H. So, in short, I'm sure this would make a terrific drum miking stand, but if you use heavy broadcast or condenser mics, you will certainly be pleased with this stand. Do remember that the base takes up some room, but I'd much rather utilize the space than have a $500 mic be damaged from tipping over. Great product, and great service from B & H as always!

[Tripod] While Atlas now has this stand produced in China, the quality of construction seems like it is still the same as always. The one place where a lot of the other mic stand companies fall short if in the clutch mechanism for raising and lowering the mic stand. This has the solid, threaded clutch that is on all the Atlas stands I have ever owned, going back to the 1970s. I added a 12 black gooseneck and a short boom stand as options for added versatility to my boom stand---both of which I highly suggest. If you are seeking a short mic stand that will last throughout your career and one that has added flexibility, look to the Atlas DMS7E.

[5/8"-27 Male] I trust B&H, I have always found them to be fast, fair and honest in all my transactions with their staff. Very satisfied overall with the product. The stand was exactly as described and I like the quality of the Atlas line. Currently it is being used as a kick-mic stand. The base is wide and heavy enough to support most mics even without a counter-weight (such as a boom).I am using it with an On-Stage Telescoping Mini-Boom (also purchased at B&H) and it works great! Another cool thing about this Atlas stand is that the base is threaded for full-size stand tubing making possible additional applications. I'm afraid that I will want to use this in too many places at once! I guess I better get a couple more...

[Telescoping] I needed a heavy duty stand for what appears to be heavier and heavier microphones (Rode NT1A with its shock mount and pop filter, and the Equitek100S which is a very solidly built microphone) that we use for radio and podcast interviews. This does the trick, and the release clutch on the post works well. The wide base takes up a little more room than normal mic stands but the added stability is worth it.
