Q: 1. Can I use a SB-700 in commander mode and use a group of these in slave if the SB-700 is mounted on top of my body and getting iTTL from the camera? Basically I'm trying to find a way to incorporate using the SB-700 and not have to add more SB units but instead use these instead due to similar performance and lower price points.

A: Unfortunately, this flash does not offer an optical slave option in TTL. What you could do is use Yongnuo YN-622N i-TTL Wireless Flash Transceiver & TX Controller Kit for Nikon B&H # YO622NKIT instead. By placing the YN 622 TX on your Nikon DSLR and the YN 622N II Transceiver on your SB-700, you can then have the YN 685 flash fire wirelessly in TTL using its built in receiver. Please see the image below for reference.

Q: 2. Real newbie - what does this combo allow me to do? Why do I need the controller? I want to put a speedlite on an umbrella stand - do i need this?

A: Yes. You need the controller on the camera and the speedlite on the umbrella stand. The controller passes information via radio from the camera to the speedlite. It also allows you to set nearly all aspects of the speedlite operation from the camera. If you've got the speedlite up on a stand away from the camera, this is SO much more convenient than walking over to the stand, pulling the speedlite down and then resetting everything on the light itself.

Q: 3. Can we use it for Nikon D3400 DSLR ?

A: Yes It does. I have tried it with D3400, D5100, D5200, D5500, D750 and D810. It works fine!

Q: 4. Guide Number is 60' (feet) or 60m (meters)? Most of Yongnuo's flashes this size are around 60m.

A: The actual guide number for this flash is 60 meters.

Q: 5. Will this work on the Canon 7D (original version)?

A: Yes, fully compatible with the Canon 7D.

Q: 6. hai, I plan to purchase yn622 n tx i-ttl trigger and yn685n flash.my doubt is its directly work without receiver(receiver not required)?

A: Yes,if you use YN 685

Q: 7. Are these flash units compatible with the Nikon CLS?

A: No they are compatible with Canon's RT System. This is a similar version for the Nikon system: https://bhpho.to/2EOq10f

Q: 8. First, is this 685 flash the newer model of the 568? How do the two models differ? Second, if I buy this flash and controller, can i buy a second 685 flash and have both of them be wirelessly controlled by this bundled controller?

A: Hi Ari,Yes this is the newer model. I'm not really sure on the differences because this was my first Yungnuo. As for part two that's also a yes. I have a friend who actually sets 4 at a time he is the one who told me about these instead of 450 a pop for Canon. Hope this helped.

Q: 9. Is this comparable with my d7100?

A: Yes, it is compatible...I have both and use them together. Just be sure you get the one for the Nikon camera.

Q: 10. Will the Yongnuo YN680EX-RT Flash function with the YN-E3-RT hot shoe remote, or do I need to purchase the YN-E3-RT II?

A: Both the original Yongnuo YN-E3-RT Wireless Speedlite Transmitter for Canon and the updated Yongnuo YN-E3-RT II Wireless Speedlite Transmitter for Canon would be compatible for use to wirelessly trigger the off-camera Yongnuo YN680EX-RT Lithium Wireless High-Speed TTL Speedlite.

[Hi-Speed Sync] I use these as off camera flash syncing to my Canon EL-5 on camera. Love the lithium batteries long life and that they maintain wireless connection to the EL-5, unlike undependable connection of other EL-5 as off camera.

[2.36 lb] I am a professional photographer full time, just photographed a mardi gras ball with lots flash and 3 social events associated. This flash was very impressive and had the power to bounce and light a room. Not built like the cannon but can replace it for a fraction of the cost. Good buy so far.
