The Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod with Ball Head CT-3586 BZ-226Tfrom Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod with Ball Head CT-3586 BZ-226Tis a lightweight five-section support, which has twist locks that open with just a quarter turn, and each section extends along with the one-section center column to a maximum height of 62.5". With its three variable leg angles, it allows you to splay the legs out and replace the regular center column with the included low-angle center column, so the tripod can go to a minimum height of 8.5".

To store or transport the tripod, the legs fold in the reverse to a compact 16.6". Furthermore, one leg is detachable and can convert into a working monopod with a maximum height of 65.2". Each rubber foot retracts back to expose a metal spike that can be wedged into softer terrain for extra support and stability.

The Arca-type BZ-226T ball head, which includes the QR-20 quick release plate, can support cameras that weigh up to 27 lb, and it easily positions the camera at a 90° angle because of the cut notch on the side of the head. There are three knobs on the ball head; one to control the movement of the ball, the second allows you to rotate and pan a full 360°, and the distinguishable knob in the middle of the other two knobs enables you to dial-in more tension to the ball. Thus, the drag of the ball is intensified and less creep is involved if more weight is added.

The lightweight carbon fiber telescoping legs open and close by turning the twist locks a quarter turn, and the legs fold in the reverse to a compact 16.6" tripod for storage or transport.

With the tripod's variable leg angles, it can adjust to three angles and splay its legs out completely to a minimum height of 8.4".

The rapid center column, which is reversible, extends and locks into place via its twist lock. An included low-angle center column allows you to get those macro shots that are close to the ground.

The tripod's detachable leg converts into a working monopod with a maximum height of 65.2".

The Arca-type BZ-226T ball head, which includes the QR-20 quick release plate, can support cameras that weigh up to 27 lb. The head features three knobs, one to control the movement of the ball, one for the pan, and the tension control knob to add or decrease drag on the ball.

The integrated bubble level on the ball head enables your to accurately align you horizon within the camera's viewfinder.

The retractable rubber feet expose spikes that can be driven into softer terrain to add stability and rigidness to the tripod.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How tall is the tripod with the center column not extended?

A: Oben AT-3586 Aluminum Travel Tripod and Triple Action BZ-226T Ball Head has a 54" maximum height without center column extended.

Q: 2. Will tripod head work with RRS camera plate? Will tripod head work with RRS camera plate?

A: This tripod head accepts Arca-Type QR Plates. You will need to make sure that the particular plate you are using is Arca Compatible, many of them from Really Right Stuff are.

Q: 3. Can I use RRS camera base plate or Wimberly lens plate with this head ?

A: Yes, the RRS plate is Arca Style and the Oben head is as well.

Q: 4. Just bought this tripod/head arrangement but the bubble level was not accurate. Leveled the tripod, mounted the camera and took a photo. Horizontal level is way off. I carefully re-centered the bubble level and then placed a torpedo level on the camera mount plate; the bubble on the tornado level was significantly off. I replaced the first tripod with a second one and the agreement between the torpedo and built-in bubble levels was worse on the second tripod. My photos are more accurate if I level the camera by eye than rely on the bubble level. This is my first tripod with a bubble level. Are they all this unreliable or is there a calibration I'm missing?

A: To my knowledge, the bubble level on the Oben Oben AT-3586 Aluminum Tripod does not allow user calibration. That being said, there should be two bubble levels on the Oben BZ-226T ball head; one on the top of the quick release clamp, and one in the center of the locking knob on the quick release clamp. You should be using both levels in tandem to ensure the camera is level, which should level the camera both horizontally and vertically. If you feel the bubble levels are not seated properly and not giving an accurate level position, I would recommend contacting the manufacturer directly either by e-mailing them at info@obensupports.com or you may call them at (212) 594-2120 Monday thru Thursday between 9:00AM - 6:00PM EST. The tripod comes with a Limited 5-Year Warranty from Oben. I have not heard of the above complaint as being wide-spread, but if the tripod was purchased within the last 30 days, you may contact our Customer Service Department to return the tripod for an exchange or a refund, but I recommend contacting Oben directly as they may be able to determine if there is either an issue with the particular tripod or a particular batch of tripods, or if it may just be with the tripods you received.

Q: 5. How does the included ball head compare to the BE-117?

A: The Oben Triple Action BZ-226T Ball Head is not sold separately. It has a stronger ball than BE-117. It's load capacity is 27 lb, the width is 48mm and it has a third tension knob to control the amount of friction for the ball head knob in order to maintain strict control of the movement.

Q: 6. is the center column removable?

A: Yes it can!

Q: 7. Just bought this and love it but wondering if there is some kind of pan arm that will fit on this to make panning and tilting easier?

A: No, you will need to purchase a pan head .

Q: 8. Will this tripod support a 450mm lens with camera attached?

A: Yes this has Load Capacity: 27 lb

Q: 9. What other ball heads will fit the AT-3586?

A: Technically, the BZ-226 can be replaced by any ballhead using a 3/8"-16 screw thread. However, the BZ226 included with the AT-3586 is the most convenient because it's size/diameter does not interfere with the tripod's reverse-folding mechanism during travel.

Q: 10. can I use my oben G H 30 gimbel head with this tripod?

A: Yes you can remove the ball head and attach the Oben GH-30 Gimbal Head.

[Ball Head] [I received this product in exchange for my honest review.]

I recently reviewed this product for my YouTube channel, The Camera Project. I was looking for a portable tripod that could hold full frame photo / video gear but still pack down and fit on my backpack. I used with a Sony A7III and Tamron 28-75 lens, and did long exposure waterfall photography. I tested up to 20 or so seconds with no issues.

I liked that the tripod comes with the short center column, offers the monopod leg, and folds down to a relatively small 16.6 inches. At 4 pounds, it's not crazy heavy, but can support up to 27 pounds. While I didn't remotely test that weight limit, it was sturdy, easy to adjust the ballhead, and rock solid. I didn't notice any creep or have any difficulty adjusting the ballhead. I saw one reviewer had issues with this ballhead, and I wonder if the secondary ballhead tension knob wasn't tightened on their unit, as there are 2 actual controls for the ballhead. Overall, I was very happy with this tripod and thought it hit a nice balance of size, weight, and price. I was sick of buying cheap tripods to always be disappointed.

[Yes] My first impression when I took it out of the bag was wow! I wasn't expecting such a solid tripod. Legs are very sturdy, twist locks are strong, and the ballhead itself is very nice. I know people have mentioned it is kind of soft and may allow drift, and maybe heavy camera and lens combos have this issue, but I had no problems with a mirrorless Canon and 24-105mm lens. Definitely not as light as my gitzo. so I probably wouldn't hike with it but quite sturdy. I also use a really right stuff bracket, not the one that comes with the tripod although it wasn't the worst Ive seen. And like most tripods like this, the center column won't allow it to get super close to the ground, if that is important to you. But all in all a nice tripod for the money.

[Yes] I was hesitant after reading some of the reviews, but now that I have it I can relax. This is a solid tripod. I mounted a camera on it to check the so called slop in the center column, but I don't see any, it's rather precise I'd say. A Canon 6D MK II with a 100-400 lens AND a 2x extender don't seem to bother it, nor does an old metal case Mamiya 645. Another old heavyweight, the Nikon F4 with a vertical grip sits atop it like a canary on a perch. It rotates smooth, almost a glide when panning. The ball is a little stiff but I attribute that to being new. The pros might want something heavier, but I can't imagine a hobbyist such as myself needing more that what this delivers.

[Yes] I bought this on sale and it is more than I ever expected. The tripod is stout, but the head works in all the ways that i want, not like the more expensive ball heads with more features. I shoot static and dont have to worry about changing everything when i have to move. The legs rock, solid and easy to use. I have a mono pod, so i haven't tried that feature, but all in all a great deal.

[Twist Lock] I've used it on several trips now and it is an ideal balance between stability and weight. Great travel tripod!

[Yes] Tripod delivered on time. Opened package and reviewed all parts / positions. Exactly as advertised. Very happy that I was able to purchase on sale. Bummer that my wife is having me put it away to be wrapped for Christmas...Happy as I feel it will provide years of use. Very solid build.

[Carbon Fiber] Feels well built. The legs lock and operate smoothly... as a matter of fact the whole thing operates smoothly. Head controls are very nice, especially like the ball tension control. Had 8 lb searchlight on it with no wandering. I feel like I moved up a few notches with this one.

[Yes] I purchased the Oben gimbal head first and was so impressed I went back for the tripod. It doesn't disappoint being sturdy and finely machined as well as compact and lightweight. An excellent tripod at a great price point.

[Carbon Fiber] Received this tripod about three months ago and I absolutely love it. Easily supports any camera body/lens I throw on it (including my gargantuan Mamiya RZ67 setup). Its super durable and very stable when shooting which is critical for long exposures which I shoot quite often, and my results are always razor sharp. It's also much lighter than I anticipated and conveniently folds up into quite a compact package for its size, which is essential for travel. Can't Recommend this thing highly enough!
