As part of the Art line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve truly notable optical performance and is ideally suited for creative and artistic applications.

Wide-angle prime is designed for FX-format Nikon F-mount cameras, however is also suitable for use with DX models where it provides a 42mm equivalent focal length.

Impressively bright f/1.4 maximum aperture is well-suited for working in low-light conditions and also provides greater control over the focus position when using shallow depth of field techniques.

Two F Low Dispersion (FLD) and three Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements are featured in the optical design, and help to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy.

Three aspherical elements are used to help limit distortion and spherical aberrations and also contributes to greater overall sharpness and accurate rendering.

A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.

The integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) realizes quick and quiet autofocusing, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also permits full-time manual focus control simply by rotating the focus ring at any time.

Specialized electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater exposure control stability that is especially beneficial when working with fast continuous shooting rates.

The bayonet mount is constructed from brass for ensured accuracy and durability. Additionally, rubber sealing is incorporated in the mount design to render it dust- and splash-resistant.

Protective coating has been applied to the front element and is both water and oil-repellent to aid in cleaning.

This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware.

[f/16] F mount, on Nikon D850: I have used this lens for group photos, landscapes and although it is obviously not a macro lens, it works well for occasional close-ups. Color rendition is natural, better than some other high regarded third party lenses; it has better edge resolution and much less distortion than one lens that cost me 3 times the price of this Sigma.

[Nikon F] Like most photographers you want to limit the lenses you own so as to reduce costs and weight. In weight category you might do better however, if image character that instantly stands out in sharp natural but vivid color and a pronounced 3 dimensional feel is what you want, you would be hard pressed to find better. Beautiful complex optical formula that few companies will venture toward in the near future it is instantly recognizable as soon as you look into the viewfinder. This lens is worth the weight. No amount of post-processing will bring an above average lens close to this one.

[Autofocus] Lovely rendering and micro contrast. Sharp. AF is quite good too. Using with a Z9 and Nikon adapter. Really, really like the look of this lens. Seems much better than some old Sigma glass I used in the past. Great value.

[77 mm (Front)] Bought this to get a little wider than the 35mm Art. Exceptional build quality, quick and accurate focus, and very satisfied with the results. Like most Sigma lenses, it’s substantial in weight, but Im getting used to it. Very happy with this lens. Great walk around lens.

[7.9 x 7.4 x 6"] I own two other Sigma lenses. This lens is a wonderful product. Sharp images and quick focus response. Great landscape lens.

[Full-Frame] I expected sharp images from other reviews and past experience with Sigma, but worried they would be sterile, flat, and without the depth of contrast from my stable of Zeiss lenses. I am very impressed however with the combination of sharpness and contrast which creates a very strong 3d image. I haven't shot anything from Canon or Sigma with this much depth, and I don't regret going with the 28mm over the Zeiss competition.

For others like myself cross shopping against Zeiss, it's not a strong contrast like the distagon 35mm f2 but it is present and neutral. Shadow detail/recovery as well has control of highlights surprised me again, my Canon (eos R) sensor was the limit rather than optical limits. Flare resistance is a weakness noted by reviewers and I found the highlight control sufficient to overcome the loss of contrast in post. Harsh light in landscape scenarios aren't handled as gracefully as my Zeiss compliment. Color is nuanced but not overly saturated.

I greatly miss the manual focus of Zeiss and almost considered returning it for that reason, but it produces some special images in a form factor and focal length I needed for my travel bag. If your goal is a transparent window into the scene, this lens will provide that. If enamored with the drawing style of lenses past this isn't the best choice, but it does allow flexibility in post to extract shadow and color nuance to create a more classic look.

[7.9 x 7.4 x 6"] I have previously shot travel film photography on various 28mm lenses. Moving over to shooting digitally on Sony Mirrorless while traveling with my family, the autofocus and fast 1.4 aperture makes for easy point and shoot capabilities in a variety of environments. 28mm is a great focal length for capturing faces and places. Would highly recommend this lens especially at the price point!
