A: Colored filters are usually meant to be used to change the contrast in black and white photography. If you were to use a yellow filter while shooting color, the whole picture will have a yellow cast. The best way to reduce the blue saturation would be to either overexpose the sky, or ideally in post production you can under-saturate the blues.

[46 mm] I purchased this filter to use with my stash of color infrared film. Since it cuts more blue light than a number 8 yellow filter or a number 12 yellow filter, foliage appears more reddish. However, it still can have a somewhat blueish tint, compared a number 16 orange filter. I have not tried it with black-and-white film, yet. 5

[46 mm] Despite this being a digital-capture world (and yes, I am a part of it), I shot film for a few decades and still enjoy using it on occasion. Tiffen's deep yellow #15 filter makes virtually all black and white pictures look better than anything. 5

[Glass] There was a time when b&w photographers never took a photograph outdoors without a filter. A #8 yellow filter restored a normal contrast range and gave some suggestion of clouds. This filter, #15, slightly stronger, renders skies closer to the actual experience. I have one of these for every lens, and for several important ones, the yellow as well, for the times when the sky needs to be there, but not noticeably dramatic. Tiffen has traditionally made high quality filters at a reasonable price. No point in putting cheap glass in front of a Planar or Summicron lens to save a couple of bucks. Comes in a substantial plastic case, though: I miss the simple round, split cases that just held the filter and took little room in your pocket. 5
